Trell Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 I wish to inquire exactly who is Hoid. He is a Worldhopper, but who could he best in a fight? When was he created (as the Hoid we know today, who is obviously Invested) Who is the being known as Hoid, or Wit, or any other names he has?
Calderis he/him Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 Hoid was there for the Shattering... He's older than almost anyone else, and he's got many names. As for who he actually is... We don't know. As to who he can best in a fight... He can't. Hoid can't physically harm anyone... But good luck killing him. 2
Karger he/him Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 He is a storyteller who collects different kinds of investiture.
+Invocation Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 https://coppermind.net/wiki/Hoid But also, he's the second oldest being in the cosmere and isn't technically human anymore. 1
+ILuvHats he/him Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 (edited) He is both your greatest hope, and your worst nightmare. He is a being who has watched mountains crumble with age and seas dry up. Some gods have called him friend, while others fear him so mightily they would obliterate entire cities if they had even the slightest chance at destroying him. He is an enigma, an unknown factor, a being who motives are utterly inscrutable. He is a shadow, subtly influencing the fate of worlds from the sidelines, watching history unfold. The stories he's told have become legends, forming a mythos of their own that span worlds. He is ... Hoid. Edited March 20, 2019 by ILuvHats 4

Read the linked Coppermind article for everything we know about him right now (bearing in mind the possibility of spoilers for any books you haven't ready yet) As far as who he could beat in a fight... pretty much nobody unless it's a battle of wits only. Hoid is incapable of causing physical harm to people or even thinking about it, but insulting them is perfectly okay. In other words, he'd be pretty lousy in a fight. Brandon's even said that if you threw all his characters into a brawl with no restrictions, Hoid would be one of the last two people standing... and then it would just get silly. All the really juicy details of Hoid's past are being saved for the Dragonsteel series.
CrazyRioter she/her Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 Hoid could turn most fights into a draw, by dint of being near impossible to kill or permanently injure.

Or just annoying everyone until they exhausted their energy repeatedly attempting to kill him and leave the battlefield allies against Hoid. New worldhopping group appears: The AAH seems dedicated to find a way to kill Hoid permanently.
