well I guess you guys can meet Chadwick at the top

Chadwick was still trying to come up with any kind of plan when he heard a scream come from the top of the building. Almost without he thinking he ran into the building looking for a staircase, he found one and sprinted up it as fast as he could, which is really really fast. Once he reached the top he saw Amara and two other people, a woman who was holding Amara down, and a giant man walking towards the stairs. Chadwick ran full speed at the man and when he was a yard or two away jumped at and hit the man knocking him over, Chadwick rolled a few feet past the man and got up.

Amara bite into the hand of the woman and when she fliched back, she screamed for help.

Mutig looked towards the tower, at first he thought it wasn't much, but then he heard the scream, the second time he'd heard that scream today. He began to rush towards the tower doors, when they flung open, revealing multiple cloaked figures. They stepped out and into the street, their eyes practically dripping shadows, then they spoke in unison.

"Congratulations, you now get to see what happens when I take control." The creature surrounded the whole street, blocking any exits.

Mutig backed up until he was beside Algorath, then spoke clearly, though he felt weak from his injury, "how do you suggest we get up there without dieing?" He scanned the surroundings, and saw Chadwick dash past the guards and up the tower. In a low voice, he grunted, "we just need to keep its attention as long as possible."

@Vargo Seldon

The man rolled to his feet, brandishing his axe, then the shadows extended, expanding. The creature spoke smoothly, "welcome to the tower of the Fens. Did you know it was made originally as a shrine to Vania?"

@Sorana @Turtle373

Spoiler

The roof is big, but also clustered with medical equipment he had had brought up.

The woman grabbed her again, her hands surprisingly strong.

"Be quiet. He'll kill you if you aren't."

Her hands clenched down so hard on Amara's arm, that her drew blood. Amara protested, moved around, but she had no idea what to do, how to free herself.

Do you need the woman for the fight?

Not necessarily, as there is now the small group at the base of the tower, the axe man, and those other two woman who haven't returned yet.

The man grunted, but twisted, swinging his axe down at Chadwicks neck. The shadows pulled Amara towards the edge of the tower, forcing her to watch the scene below. It turned towards the dog that pestered him, "stand down, or I'll throw her off, than murder them down there." He said it bluntly , with no hesitation, pushing a little closer to the edge.

He smiled, "for a dog, your smarter than you look." He thought for a moment, choosing what to say. "You stand down, and I'll let them leave," he indicated the group below, "but she and you will remain for one week. After which you may join your companions. Do we have a deal?" He knew what was being risked , he knew there was a big chance of this backfiring in his face. But he also knew he hasn't gotten everything he needed from the woman, and that wolf had seen too much now to allow leaving.

Chadwick looked over to where Amara was dangling,

I have to save her, and at least some of the group will be able to get out, and I can't fight this thing alone

"I'll stop fighting, now let her go."

The creature pulled Amara back onto the roof, "good boy, now tell your friends to leave, or I will show them what a splattered healer looks like." He looked now at Amara, eyes growing cold, "never. Do that. Again." He mouthed each word, making himself clear, he released her to the ground.

Mutig looked at the shadowed figures. They didn't move, didn't speak, didn't even move. They just stood, as if waiting for orders, then they moved, dispersing through the shadows, disappearing. what is he planing?

"The boy."

She whispered frightened.

"Thanks, that you came, that you're here."

Algorath looked towards Mutig.  He was asking his advice.  When had that started happening?  Mutig used to hate him, and now he was looking to Algorath for advice.  It was a bad situation.  Darkness all around.  Amara and Chadwick held at the top.  There was no way out without someone dying.  They needed an advantage.  "Light," he whispered, "That should do it.  Only problem is we haven't a light source."

This was it.  The time to evolve.  He had built his reputation around himself, even before he entered the city.  He would no longer be a creature to be feared.  A thing of the shadows.  He would be defender of man and beast equally.  He would live in both worlds, fighting for both worlds.  Darkness would tremble at his approach.

As the shadows closed in, he spun, slashing with his claws.  Inky blackness flowed from dark wounds as his claws cut into it.  He realized that his claws were glowing, and were hurting the creature.  Amara.  If he continued to fight, she would die.  This only drove him deeper into a frenzy.

His whole body was glowing now, driving the thing back.  His claws elongated by several feet, and suddenly they joined into two swords in his hands.  His reach now longer, his weapons spun with deft skill in his hands, slicing through darkness.  His body began glowing brighter and brighter, the shadows flinching back.  His weapons spun faster and faster, whirling about him in a killing frenzy.

He suddenly rose into the air, his body erupting with light.  His swords became twin spears of light, burning in a raging torrent through the pitch-black monster.  The thing shyed back, retreating so far as to release Amara on the rooftop.  This was what he was meant to do.  Become what he was meant to be.  He was now a monster.

As he rose into the air to collect Amara, his form flickered, going back and forth between wolf and man.  As he alighted, they settled and became something new.  The best qualities of both.  The ingenuity and intelligence of a man, the instinct and heightened senses of a wolf.  The strategy and dexterity of a man, the raw strength and power of a wolf.  He was a monster.

"Of course, I'll try to get us out but I don't know if I can. Is there anything I can do to help?" He asked nodding towards the boy.

Amara is already standing with Chadwick somewhere on the roof. I'm a bit unsure how to respond to your post because of that, so for now I'll only answer to Chadwick's question.

"He's stable. We can't leave him behind."

Amara hastened over and started to pack her tools.

The creature stood waiting for his new opponent, his eyes boiling with rage, doing all he could to not strike this fool from the sky, to not break his own bargain. He intensified his presence, drawing his power from the Fens, draining his power from his host's, calling them to squelch this hybrid from his territory.

The creature turned towards them, and his two followers stepped forward, the woman drew a knife, setting it to the boys throat. The axe man braced to lob Amara's head off. Right as Algorath arrived, the creature smiled, feeling his own being rivaling that of this beings light. "Too little, too late." He said, keeping his fury out of his voice. "Your friend's have arranged your passage from the Fens." His power was focused now, squeezing this animals light, condensing his light, forcing him down onto the roof. "I suggest not testing my good will much further."

Amara froze, stared at the woman, at the man.

"Chadwick, I really hope you've got some kind of idea."

Her hand touched his fur, looking for support, comfort. Slowly she reached into her bag, her hand closed around a sharp knife. She would not die here a helpless woman.

"Why are you here? What are you trying to achieve?"

Whoops, sorry.  Meant to rescue you from the hostage situation.  Just pretend that I'm coming for both of you.

Algorath froze in the air.  His brief burst of power from evolving was fading fast.  He began to lose altitude.  This was not good.  He had now fully evolved from Apex to Monster, but was still not powerful enough to take this thing on.  His power faded completely and he dropped to the ground.  In human form his claws morphed into a pair of ebony swords at his sides.  He drew them and saw that they still glowed faintly.  Reluctantly, he turned from the building and walked away.  If they would die for his quixoticism, there was no point in attempting a rescue.  They would need to leave and plan this out.

The creature watched Algorath and Mutig walk away, his anger subsiding. He turned towards Amara and Chadwick, his anger returning, he hissed at them, making certain they knew his mood, "You best hope that boy lives , in the meantime" he looked at his two followers , "leave them with the symbols, and insure they don't. Leave." They both nodded. With that settled, he dispersed his power from the tower, regaining control of the Fens, and sending his followers back to their positions.

Amara looked at them again and then tightened her fingers on his fur, then walked over to the boy. She had an idea, but she felt sick by it. She could do nothing against the shadow, but against these two.

Lightning a small fire she started boiling some water, threw some leaves into the pot. She had a plan. Now it only needed to work, and that meant the others had to play along. She had only one cup, so she had to do this wisely. For now it meant waiting until the tea was ready.

The creature drifted not far from the borders of the Fens, gazing at the city that lay before him. He watched as the city slowly began to wake up. The vendors getting an early start on their trades, the kids begging to be allowed to run freely, and even when he focused he was the palace. He looked at it all and silently spoke to himself.

"Peace be upon you, mighty city, and may your suffering end soon..."

He sensed one his followers, Karl, waiting for him. He did this each day, since he was made, blessing the people he would soon free. Few saw him as a savior, many saw him as a monster, a nightmare parents told their kids of at night. He remembered this world's starting point, when the first human's appeared on this world, cultivating it, capturing it. He sighed inwardly, mentioning for Karl to come closer.

"My Lord," he began , "we have begun sending your followers into the rest of the city. They will start small, keeping this hope to those who need it most." Karl looked alot older now, he had been given more power than most he gave power to, making him into a firm host of his power.

"Good, you have done well my child," the creature spoke calmly, almost as if he wasn't an ancient being that wished to see humanity end. "I have one last thing, a test for the newest members of our community."

Karl looked eager, "say it, and it shall be, my Lord."

" I want you to lead that bear to the new comers, and let them fight him to the death, if they succeed, they will be respected as if they where old members. " he watched the eagerness in Karl's eyes grow, and he knelt.

"As you wish, my Lord" with that he left, leaving him to think and plan his next phase of the plan.

Mutig had followed the group, leaving in defeat. He felt responsible for it all, as if him being in this city had caused this to happen. He knew one thing it seemed, he had heard of a cult for the shadows forming not far from the Fens, and had decided what he would do. justice is due.  He thought, closing in on where they would meet, the sun hadn't risen yet, and he could see the group now. He moved towards them, making them start at first sight, then harden.

"Leave. Now." He growled , counting the group, 6 in the center of the chamber, 2 on each side, and 1 cloaked figure near the back. The figure stood, and with a single word, moved the entire group: "kill"

Mutigs eyes turned red, he saw the fight through a red haze. He wasted no time, he lunged at the six, scattering them while he crushed two nearest to him, he threw his head to the side, catching one by the throat and swinging him like a rag doll. He threw the corps at the two on the right of the room, knocking them down, then rolled to the other side, crushing the two who he missed the first time, and came up slashing at the two on that side of the room. One caught his paw with a wooden shield, but it splintered into shavings from the impact, the paw slashing him across the face and chest. Mutig felt something hit his back, and shot one hind paw out, hearing the crunch of a direct hit. He spun on the last three, and rushed them, his eyes glazed with blood lust, his entire body shivered as he killed the two who came first. Feeling another hit, this time to his head, he slung up, catching his target in the chest, throwing him towards the wall. He chased the man as he fail, tearing into him with his teeth, barely even registering his screams.

Mutig staggered back from the scene, horrified by what he saw. He looked at himself, and saw blood, their blood, staining his thick fur deep red. He gazed at the scene, tears slowly forming in his eyes, then he did what he did what these days, run. He fled the place, but it was too late, he had been seen. He saw the looks of fear in the people's eyes, he saw parent's pulling their kids away from him, and he saw the cloaked figure, standing in the middle of the crowed. The figure raised his hands and spoke clearly.

"Did not I warn you of this animals coming? Did not I tell you the beings that have been made for good are just monster's? This is what your king has brought into your city, this is what he drained his vaults to. Tell me, does this make him a just king?" He spoke with authority , and people began yelling back, shouting in anger.

And Mutig ran. He dashed past the crowed, even as he heard the cloaked figure calling for justice for his people. He ran past a few guards, who jumped out his path as he ran, seeing his blood stained fur. Mutig hated himself, he had known the meeting was bait, but he bit anyways. When he stopped running, he was in a dark alleyway, connecting to Fens. With blurred eyes he ran into the Fens, and finally, to himself, he released a deep, pained roar, one loud enough to awaken the whole city. Guards took to strategic positions, magic beings sprang up, drawing their weapons and turning towards those around themselves.

On the tower, the man with an axe jumped to attention, he had dosed off slightly, and spun looking for the source of the roar. Than the woman smile.

"Congratulations," she said, looking at Amara and Chadwick, "your friend has made himself known."

The creature watched the bear, from the start of the fight to when he fled. He looked at Karl and gave his commands.

"Move our people out of that part of the Fens, and let them know that if they believe themselves to be strong enough to be my host, they will bring me the bears head"

Karl turned and left, informing more followers and starting the exudes.

Sorry for the long post, I am not going to be around for a few days, so I decided to get Mutig out of sight for awhile.

The creature is making the people more hateful towards the king, and slowly getting more followers.
