Dan kept on metaphorically thumping his tail while wondering at the fact that Shae wasn’t anybody else’s best friend until he faintly realized that he was sitting on a tower... in the middle of the night... with Shae. “Uh,” Dan said, “uh, should I take you back to your room.”

He blinked, tilting his head. "Why?" He was used to staying up late. He didn't really see what problem there was... He scratched behind his other ear, humming softly.

"Just, uh," Dan mumbled, tilting his head a little more to make his ears more accessible, "nevermind. Try not to hit your hand on my horns, okay? They're pretty rough."

He nodded, smiling and chuckling as he used his other hand to get both ears, now that they were available.

A completely happy smile spread over Dan's face at this, and he wiggled his whole body, since he didn't have a tail. Hmm, Shae is definitely deserving of best friend-ness. Scratching a dude's dog-ears even though you don't have to? That's just awesome.

He smiled, watching him wriggle. It was adorable, and ridiculous. He kept going, just dying inside- though he did notice that part of him wanted to see if the man's stomach elicited a stronger reaction. Somehow, he doubted that it would have the same effect. He held off for now- he'd ask later.

Coincidentally, these two words perfectly describe my best friend. 

Side note: It just occurred to me what I'm typing. A story about a guy scratching another guy's ears. 

Dan kept wriggling and panting for a minute, just enjoying the moment, before he furled his wings in and collapsed backward.

... I don't think this is as weird as you make it out to be...

Shae blinked, blushing in surprise. He hadn't expected that, and now one of his arms was stuck under Dan, just able to keep scratching his ears. He bit his lip, then sighed quietly, eyeing the mans stomach. If it didn't work, Dan would get moving pretty quickly... He began to scratch Dan's stomach with his remaining free hand.

Dan made a face, then, completely to his own surprise, actually purred. He hadn't even known that he could purr.

Shae blinked, stunned. The only reason he didn't stop was from hours and hours being interrupted while sculpting or painting. You got used to continuing your movements after a while. He grinned, raising an eyebrow and chuckling. "Well now..." He continued it, wishing he had two hands to try and do this with. Still, one hand on Dan's ears and the other on his stomach- the oddly adorable things Dan was doing made the slight discomfort more than worth it.

"Wait a sec!" Dan said, bolting to his feet. "I was making a cat noise. That is definitely not okay." Dan started to panic.

Shae sighed slightly, moving his hand and trying to rub the tingles of blood returning out if the arm. "I don't think it's really all that important..." He looked at him, gaging how panicked Dan was. He'd play dirty to calm him down if that's what it took- he knew Dan's weakness now, after all. 

[Sherlock Holmes he/him]

“Wait, oh Sisters,” Dan said, going down to his knees next to Shae, “did I hit you with my horns? I’m so sorry.” He felt an urge to lick Shae’s arm, which would clog the cut and keep it from bleeding further. He didn’t know if Shae would be okay with that, but he also didn’t have any bandages, so he leaned over and licked Shae’s arm a few times.

Shae blushed, jerking his arm back and squeaking. "What- Why are you licking me?" He wasn't mad, it was just... weird. and unexpected. And he hadn't expected  the stinging. He looked at his arm, blinking in surprise at the cut. He hadn't even noticed it- he'd been trying to get rid of the pin and needles that came from blood rushing into his arm again after being so restricted for that long. "O-oh... um... okay... I... I guess you can lick me if... if you really think it'll help..." He bit his lip, a little uncomfortable with that. It wasn't something he was against, per se, just... weird.

Dan blushed since Shae was blushing, and backed off a bit. “Sorry, but my saliva’ll clog the wound and make sure that you don’t bleed any more. It makes it hurt less, too, I think. Sorry.”

He nodded. "Oh... Okay... Um, why were you so upset about purring? It's really cool." He tried to smile, managing to make it as he relaxed a little, allowing Dan to take his arm again if he wanted too.

[Sherlock Holmes he/him]

“It’s a cat sound,” Dan repeated, “and cats are weird.” He scooted back over to Shae and flicked his ears forward.

Shae blinked. "Mmm... no. Cats and dogs are equally weird, and I love them both- you're like the best of both worlds. It isn't a bad thing, in my opinion. Not at all." He smiled, hesitantly holding out his arm to Dan. 

[Sherlock Holmes he/him]

Oh, does he want me to lick it now? Dan leaned over and licked the wound thoroughly until it stopped bleeding. "Okay, does it hurt that much?" Dan asked, looking up at Shae's face with concern. He really wanted Shae to not be in pain, for some reason. Also... best of both worlds. Hearing that from Shae was like having a fire in Dan's heart, which was weird.

He bit his lip, feeling a bit confused by his own conflicting feelings about what had happened, but he smiled, relaxing himself so he'd seem to just be happy. And he showed the relief and gratitude he felt in his eyes as he looked up at Dan. "Yes, thank you... I didn't know that you had magical healing spit. I'll probably have you drool on me the next time I accidentally forge my way into a new dimension. Getting to the alleycity was not a fun experience, let me tell you..." He chuckled, shaking his head.

"You went through a Perpendicularity, or something?" Dan said, then blushed at what he immediately thought of. "Could you rub my ears again, please? I'll owe you for it."

He grinned, chuckling. "No... I was trying to forge the market to be closer so I wouldn't have to walk as far, and I got a few symbols wrong... I accidentally move one of the alley city entrances to where I was and fell through- that left some bruises and scars... I had a black eye for almost two weeks." He smiled, then moved over next to him. "As for your ears, I'll do you one better." He grinned, beginning to rub the man's belly again.

Dan flopped back so he was lying down, involuntarily, and smiled the smile of a dog who is getting his belly rubbed. Thinking of Shae hurt, with a black eye... dampened his joy a little, but he still smiled. He rolled a little, and one of his legs kicked a few times.

He chuckled, the rolling leaving him a little unstable, but he just moved a bit closer, leaning so he'd be able to get a good angle for this.
