Mraize's future potential?

"Of the half-dozen or so people in the room, one drew her attention most. Straight-backed, with jet-black hair, he wore white clothing and stood in front of the room’s crackling hearth. He reminded her of someone, a man from her childhood. The messenger with the smiling eyes, the enigma who knew so much. Two blind men waited at the end of an era, contemplating beauty. . . ." (WOR)

This got me wondering if there is some deep connection between hoid and Mraize. Why would Shallan think of Hoid by just looking at Mraize's back? I don't really have anything solid but the way this is written just feels like it means something. It has a feeling of light and dark, or Mraize is something like Hoids future adversary. Like they are the two blind men contemplating beauty. This is all based on the above quote and I wished I new more about Mraize. I am probably overanalyzing this but it makes Mraize someone to take note of.

Well if it helps, Mraize in his room of treasures, he has stuff from other planets in the cosmere, he could be another worldhopper or he knows Hoid ect

Mraize is confirmed Worldhopper. :)

Arthur Dent (paraphrased)

Is [Mraize] a worldhopper?

Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased)

Yes, he's been to a few planets, highly supervised by his babsk.

Arthur Dent (paraphrased)

So what planet is she from?

Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased)

Well, that's kind of a hard thing to say. She has 3 planets she's "from". For example, she's living now on Roshar, but then she's from a different planet, but that's not a planet that her people are from.

Arthur Dent (paraphrased)

So there was a mass exodus to that planet?

Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased)

Not exactly. If you were to find a Japanese American, where would they say that they are from? Her people did not have a mass exodus.

Arthur Dent (paraphrased)

Have we seen mass exoduses before?

Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased)

Yes, there are some in the cosmere. There's a mass exodus that is mentioned in one of the interludes in [Words of Radiance].

Footnote: Zas678 intially reported that the mass exodus was discussed in The Way of Kings, Arthur Dent later corrected this as Brandon actually referred to Words of Radiance.

I'm doing my WoR reread right now actually, I and must've missed that line...Good catch.

It's really interesting to me. Mraize and Hoid both being worldhoppers is an obvious connection between the two, but I desperately hope this is foreshadowing for something. Hoid and Mraize interacting? I would love to read about that

It's when Shallan first meets the Ghost Bloods.

I have a pet theory that Hoid got Mraize his Aviar in return for the Ghostbloods helping him drop off a letter to a certain Shard (it'd happen in-between the end of WoR and part two of Oathbringer). No real proof, but it makes sense to me!

Anyways, yeah I assume Hoid and the Ghostbloods have a working relationship at the moment. Why Mraize would remind Shallan of Hoid specifically...no idea!

Maybe they're brothers or related in some way? Shallan seems to be able to sense when things go wrong (does does Renarin in regards to the unmade in Urithrial, maybe Illumination thing?) So maybe she can sense a connection between Hoid and Mraize without realising it

Brandon sanderson has confirmed that Mraize is native to Roshar, so they wouldn't be brothers.

Brothers in the non-blood sense?

I doubt it.  Mraize has doe very limited worldhopping under close supervision, but I dont get the sense that's he's all that high up in the Ghostblood's trans-world heirarchy.  Meanwhile, we have these two WOB's that strongly imply there has not been a whole lot of interaction between Hoid and the Ghostbloods, though they are aware of each other.

Aesicar [PENDING REVIEW]

What does Hoid think of the Ghostbloods and what do they think of him?

Brandon Sanderson [PENDING REVIEW]

The Ghostbloods are intrigued, and he is unimpressed.

Questioner

How would - just really generally - the Ghostbloods react if they found or met Hoid?

Brandon Sanderson

(laughs) They... Some people among them know of him.

Questioner

So they know he's around.

Brandon Sanderson

Some of them do, not everybody. But they are aware of his existence. At least in lore, they don't always... Not all of them have connected the King's Wit to this person's lore, does that make sense? So what would they know? They'd probably want to get him and interrogate him. They would want to know what he knows, but he is really slippery and it's hard to get out of him what he knows.
