Ambition, Devotion, and Ruin are my best guesses for who invested in Yolen. Those are the three shards that didn't have an investing action available to them.

I can't think of a ton to say either, though I want to catch up to Weasel and Axolotl in post count, that might take a while.

Vhelir-son-Shaeil was not a child anymore, this was his chance to prove that. At 17, he was being sent as a caravan leader to Azir to trade with them. He would much rather have been a farmer than a merchant, but he should be grateful for what he did have, at least he wasn't a warrior.
"It's time to go" barked Tsulas. Vhelir grunted and followed Tsulas back to the caravan. He wished Tsulas didn't have to come. Officially, he was there as an advisor to Vhelir and family friend, unofficially however, he was Vhelir's supervisor, the one who really ran the caravan. Vhelir would never get the recognition he needed if Tsulas was calling the shots. As his caravan started to pull away, he glanced back at the people he was leaving behind. He would miss them, but this was necessary. He had been an aggressive youth, and they had almost made him a warrior because of it. This was his last chance to prove he could be a productive member of society.

They had brought with them a shipment of various fruits and vegetables, and an oddity; a weapon. Vhelir shuddered at the thought of it, 'Why would they insist on sending something so crude in this caravan?'. He doubted he would ever learn the answer to that, but that wasn't what was truly important. Few people would voluntarily travel near something like that. Which was lucky for Vhelir, as he needed this opportunity. Though that didn't make the situation any more desirable to be in.

A week into the journey, they had just passed through the mountain range on the border of Shinovar. When from above a short stone cliff they heard a clash of metal - screaming - and a thud as a body was thrown off the cliff. The 5 guards that came with them started running around the cliff, looking for a way up not made of stone, but Vhelir couldn't see one anywhere close.  He rushed to the wagon and found a blue cloth wrapped around something long. He grabbed the cloth and raced towards the stone cliff. "Forgive me" he muttered, and he began to climb the cliff face. He heard gasps and cries of shock from below, but he couldn't just stand idle while people died.

Vhelir scrambled over the ledge to see 3 bandits cornering the last person in sight. Vhelir charged and slammed the covered object into one of the bandit's heads, who promptly crumpled. One of the bandits turned around to engage him and slashed upwards with their sword. Vhelir was barely able to block the blow, but the cloth tore away, and all that was left in Vhelir's hands was a silvery-grey short sword. The bandit started to glow, and Vhelir realized a second too late that this man was a surgebinder. The man spun around and tapped the sword with his hand, and nothing happened. The man stood there, stunned when the guard, already having dispatched the other bandit, came and took care of the final one.

Vhelir ran to the ledge to look down at his Caravan, but it wasn't anywhere to be seen. Realizing he was standing on stone, he tried scrambling down the cliff face as quickly as he could, but slipped halfway down, and fell. Everything went black.

Day 2 - A Watchful Peace

The thief slipped silently through the darkened halls and empty rooms of the Silverlight Polytechnic Shardic Research facility. The buildings were derelict, of course. It had been generations since the Silverlight War, when worldhoppers with more chutzpah than sense had locked the very Shards of Adonalsium away for research and experimentation. Inevitably, of course, containment had failed, and pandemonium had broken loose. The study of the Shards themselves was now banned at SilverPoly, encouraged by the isolationist rule of Autonomy.

But times were changing now. The university, the Shardworlds, perhaps even the Shards themselves were all pawns in a great game, and the moves were drawing towards its end. And these ruined buildings were a treasure trove of hidden and sequestered data that could change the way the game was played. Who knew what some graduate student's research might have uncovered, only to be left here to rot after the research ban came down?

The blinking lights on the computer console slowed her down. These buildings weren't even supposed to be hooked up to the emergency power system. She had brought a portable power pack with her, just to get one of them turned on long enough to search for useful data. Lights meant trouble, a trouble she wasn't sure she was prepared to deal with.

Circling the chair and the desk it sat underneath, she examined the network of power and etherrealm cables. None of them looked out of place, but they were all new-looking and well-maintained. As she approached the console, lights flickered on all across the broad room. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a human shape appeared. Standing next to the desk, the apparition smiled. His skin was metallic, the color of polished steel, and his body language exuded confidence.

"Thank you for visiting SIlverlight Polytechnic! I am Jesenesh, an AI and probability manifold created to explore Shardic resonances." The image flickered a little, as if one of the hologram filters was misaligned, but it remained at the scene.

"How may I assist you?"

This was too much for the thief. The AI could know priceless secrets, far more than she would ever need to sell to turn a profit. But the mere fact of its existence in its non-dormant state was proof of something. Somebody or somebodies had had the same idea, but had gotten there first. And this was no impromptu affair either, but a coordinated effort to bring this computer back to life. But who could have done it? She was the best hacker in the school, and even she had only been willing to give herself even odds at bringing it back. Stepping forward, she gave the avatar a command.

"Jesenesh, I need all available information on the Silverlight Wars, and the Shardic wars of ambition before that."

"I am sorry, mistress, but that information is restricted."

Restricted? What security systems could still be operational after all this time? "Please flag all unrestricted information on Shardic powers, and prepare it for download."

"I am sorry, mistress, but that information has been placed under restricted status."

With frustration burning slowly within her, the thief glared threateningly at the avatar, though he simply stood, smiling, his metal skin sending soft reflections onto the nearby walls. "Who restricted this information?"

The avatar made no response, but the console screen came to life, with a single name displayed in neon letter. Dropping her thieves tools and hacker kit, the thief backed away slowly from the console. As soon as she was outside the room, she ran as fast as her legs could carry her. It didn't matter where she went, but she was never going near that cluster of buildings again.

“Hey!” Exvee yelled, as he stalked the street. He was more than a little drunk. “Can SoMeOnE pLeAse explain what this whole Shard war thing is?!”

He staggered into an alleyway and then tumbled out. He felt dizzy. His father would not be proud. But then again, his father hadn’t been in the middle of a war where he didn’t even know who the fighters were or why they were so important.

“I mean, everyone says they’re gods and stuff!” He passed by a mother who shielded her child away from the scary drunk guy.

“But, I (hic) mean, surely if they were so important, I would have (hic) heard of them?!”

Tessa returned to her hotel room, after having spend most of the night scouting out the city, determining which worldhoppers of note and other powers where among the new arrival and generally attracting lots of bad luck. She'd have another busy night ahead of her, but for now she'd be getting some well-deserved rest.

The moment she closed here eyes, her communicator started beeping. "Ugh, yeah, who's this? she mumbled groggily."

"Hey Tessa, I hope I didn't wake you up." Vahal's voice sounded cheery as ever. "Do you remember that experiment we did a couple of years back? If possible, I'd like to do a rerun over the coming couple of days."

Tessa sat up again. "What experi.. oh, that one."There was really only one experiment he'd be calling her for. "Didn't we conclude that the theory was bogus and that this was not a  valid way of predicting the future, even with manipulation of Fortune?"

"To be precise, we determined that we couldn't tell for certain if it was possible to predict the future, but those experiments happened under strictly controlled circumstances. I'm curious as to the results of a field test during these turbulent times. Humour me for today at least, please?"

"Ugh, alright. I assume you made sure a deck was added to my pack before I left?" Tessa rifled through her gear and found a palm-sized box at the bottom of her pack. "Alright, I've got it. Anything in particular you want me to try to divine?"

"How about the general opening stages of the shardic conflict, so just the coming day or two. Is that precise enough?"

"Maybe? Who knows." She started going through the deck of Cards. "Chariot represents war and conflict, So that'd be a good starting place." She shuffled the rest of teh deck, and started tapping into fortune.

"Well, that's an unsurprising start." The first card had been the two of Swords. "There'll be several different allied groups. Not really a big new revelation.

The next card was the five of swords. "Seems there's going to be some betrayal and backstabbing, or at least some dishonourable acts."

She turned over the next two cards. The page and five of cups. "Apparently we're moving towards a time of meditation and reflection, but all we've got right now is the left -overs of previous events. I don't know about peace ore reflection, but this is all coming from the previous wars, so I suppose that fits."

"Now, these next two make no sense whatsoever. Six of cups and king of pentacles. Some kind of declaration or confession in the past, and a single valorous and/or intelligent person of influence being of direct influence in the coming conflict maybe?

"Okay, I'm down to the final four. Page of swords first, suggesting that this conflict will be fought in the shadows, rather than openly. Suits me fine, I suppose. Next is Knight of pentacles. Suggests that there's competent people involved in this stuff, I suppose. Next is the seven of pentacles. Another conflict card, though it usually denotes economical conflict." She picked up the last card. Supposedly that one was the most important, containing the actual future predictions.

"Last one is page of wands. Based on the rest of this I'd say we're going to get a fairly major revelation, but probably late in the day after a period of conflict. The revelation will be made in contradiction to some earlier agreements, and it'll spark a period of relative peace as people mull over the implications."

She stopped tapping luck. "I'm pretty sure I could read these cards in a couple of dozen different, more non-sensical ways as well. I doubt that this will prove of any use."

"We'll see, won't we?" Vahal spoke. "This method has been discussed and detailed in some fairly old documents, though we can't replicate their exact method for reaching out to Fortune. Anyway, I thank you for your time and effort. Have a good day's sleep, Agent DeLoren."

Meanwhile, on Sel:

“Just who exactly are Shards anyway?!” Exvee’s shaken voice rang through the almost empty Selish streets. He’d hoped he’d get answers here. He rolled his eyes. Like that was going to happen.

“Join me! And together, we can ignore this whole fiasco!”

Some beggars and commoners looked at him like he was drunk, which to their credit, he was. But he was already confused, dazed, and pining for answers he couldn’t comprehend before the drink, what difference did it make now?

He’d been parading for four hours. That drink had been some strong stuff, evidently. He had almost begun to think it a lost cause. “We don’t have to be afraid! We mus-“

A tap on the shoulder cut him off from his manifesto and Exvee turned to a small man, who seemed to shrink under his gaze. The man scratched his head quickly. “Who might you be?” Exvee drunkenly boomed.

“Uh, Kaon, sir, I mean, mister.” His voice was nasally and high pitched at the same time. He spoke quietly and quickly. “And why must you join me on this quest, Kaon?!” Exvee said.

The man, Kaon, fumbled with his words before saying something. “I mean, it’s like that you, you know, seem very big and confident and it’s like that I sort of want to be like you.”

Exvee looked over the man, and his gaze became pitiful. “Oh, you need friends, don’t you!” He said sympathetically, still shouting.

The man looked around for a second then nodded. “Please,” he whispered.

Exvee frowned. This called for serious measures.

Dramtically taking a hand out, Exvee laid it on the shorter man’s forehead, angled up.

“From this moment on!” He shouted. “You are no longer, uh, what was your name?”

“Kaon, sir - uh, mister.”

“You are no longer Kaon! No! From henceforth, you are renamed to... DAVE!”

“Uh, thank you mister.”

“You are reborn! And you shall follow me on my quest to blissful ignorance!”

“Um, yes sir,” Dave said.

“Great! Step one: find more converts. I send you forth, my child!”

Dave nodded nervously, and scrambled away to whatever alley he’d come from. He would be back, hopefully with more recruits. Exvee smiled. This was the start of something great. And he drunk as storms.

One convert down. Only the rest of the Cosmere to go.

I feel a need to respond to Onyx's RP, but as I'm not on the same world in game and OOG, im on a train on mobile at an hour when normal people should be sleeping, I don't really have the mental capability at the moment of coming up with a way to further their story.

Though I would like to start off the voting today. I am willing to change my vote, but I just want put a vote out on indigo weasel for possibly being in the same faction as Odium, who possibly has a win on to destroy shards. They reached out to Cultivations faction early, specifically for the stated reason that their wincons might align. Cultivation's faction might have a wincon along the lines of putting shards back together again.

And of course, it's easier to put shards together if their broken, and easier to find shards to splinter if there's more shards.

Hmmm, I expressed that theory in the Scadrial Doc, but I would note that Odium has apparently refrained from killing this cycle, which seems to run counter to a win-con that requires a lot of killing. One cycle hardly makes a pattern, but it's something to keep in mind.

And I might as well put in a vote of my own to get discussions started. For starters, I propose we lynch Scarlet Octopus for the way they pushed for the lynch on Sunburst Toucan when they claimed Neutral. Irrespective of the claim being believable or not, it struck me as very noteworthy that he immediately tried to drum up support for a lynch because of what was at worst a lie. This makes me suspect that he's directly interested in the elimination of either lots of players, or something along the line of  'wipe out X unique factions' or 'have X players from unique factions among the dead'.

Sel:

Vhelir just having finished a conversation about people working together, he was feeling rather productive. He stretched back in his chair and closed his eyes; a few seconds of rest wouldn't kill anyone.

"WHO MIGHT YOU BE?", startled, Vhelir jumped out of his seat.  But the question was not directed at him, but a short man standing in front of one of the people he had just been talking to. 'Exvee, I think the name was?'

He walked over there and overheard a much quieter, "Great! Step one: find more converts. I send you forth, my child". Vhelir stopped in his tracks, what was Exvee doing? Creating a following? This was not something that was brought up in our previous conversation.

"Hello Exvee, you seem to have quite a talent for conversion. But why? I noticed you very cleverly redirected him from his goal to gain friends, and towards your own goal of gaining more followers. What is your goal with converting him, and likely others?"

To me the phrasing in the rules "The players will be divided into five different factions" means that there are no neutral players. @Seonid, are there any players not belonging to one of the 5 factions? If there aren't, I propose we lynch Toucan next cycle.

Quote

If a player belongs to a faction, then by definition they are not neutral. If they claim to be, then there is no point in trying to work with them. A quiet disposal by mob rule would be best in that case.

That seems more like drumming up support for a quick and 'safe' lynch, than trying to get people to discuss the possibility of Toucan possibly being Neutral. That's also the reason I voted for you, instead of for example Quartz Zebra, who was actually going into details on why Toucan might or might not actually be a Neutral.

Posted

You can see that I asked Seonid if a neutral role was a possibility, just in case my interpretation of the rules was off. The equivalent in a different game would be someone claiming to have a secret role when the rules expressly forbid them. Of course you would vote for such a person. Also, in faction games there aren't really "safe" lynches. There was no detail necessary. A GM response was all we needed, and we got it. Anything else was wasted typing.

It's actually entirely possible there was an attack that was blocked and that we just won't see that in the write-ups.  GMs, are ya'll willing to confirm if blocked/protected attacks would show in the write-ups?

That's possible, though very unlikely. Also, how would Odium have been blocked? The roles that give protect/roleblock options are: Unmade, Bondsmith, and Honor. Honor is the only one that would have had access to the ability N1. This means they also would need to decide to protect someone instead of making a factionmate a Bondsmith. N1 is the least likely cycle for Honor to be protecting, as attacks have the highest chance of hitting a differant faction, and with a bondsmith, they can protect 2 people if they want during the more critical rounds.

A suggestion from the Sel doc was that Odium may just be inactive.

Alright. I feel like I missed something during my temporary absence, though I’m not entirely sure what. For now, I see a few vaguely defined lynch wagons, which seem to be based off typical reasoning that ends up surrounding D1 lynches, regardless of whether or not a game has factions. Not that the reasoning is bad, it’s just typically less solid than it becomes later as more information is garnered.

That said, although this has been nice so far, I think we should start killing people. Partially so the game can progress, as I’d rather this not become one very, very long blaze of light that extends until mid-May, if people don’t start dying, and partially to start getting information. For that reason alone I’d like a Toucan lynch, as I’m morbidly curious what his actual alignment is, but he does make a good point that lynching neutrals to test them every time is unfair to them, and I’d like to see how much he upholds his commitment to impartiality and neutrality. If he does, I see no reason not to let him continue living. Looking at the other lynch candidates, we have Weasel, for potentially conspiring with Odium, and Albatross, for pushing on an “easy” Toucan lynch. Of the two, I’d rather see Weasel dead if only to clear up the conflict between him an Axolotl a cycle or two ago, but again that’s not a terribly great reason to take someone out of the game, and I’m not entirely sure he’s really working with Odium (and that’s not necessarily a sin in any case). Instead, I’ll go @Sapphire Elephant. Sapphire, I understand being confused by the rules a little bit, especially if this truly is your first Shard game, but you’ve made a total of one post so far. Care to join us and share your thoughts some more? (Note: there are other minimally active people, as I just picked somebody at random. But I’d like it if everyone, including Sapphire and other minimally actives (and myself), to make a commitment to post in-thread once a cycle, even if it’s a “just-checking-back-in” or RP post, just to foster a little more interaction in here. Faction and world docs are nice, but this will be the permanent record of Seonid’s final game, so let’s make it an active and good one. Also, I’d rather lynch a semi-inactive than one fully so, if only because full inactives will eventually be replaced.)

Okay, if it makes you feel better, I’ll answer one yes or no question completely honestly; I give you my word I will tell the truth.  If I refuse to answer, probably because I would have to ask my faction mates before answering, I won’t count it.  If I lie, no one need ever trust my real account in an SE game ever again.

I’ll wait to answer that until other people weigh in.

The idea was I would generate debate by making that offer.  Doesn’t seem to be working.<_<

I would remind you, however, that I did claim not to have a shard, though it could have been a lie.

To start the pressure, I’ll vote for myself:D

Working part time for Harmony's Bands carried with it a number of advantages, especially when one was allowed to work the night shift without supervision. There were a couple of bronze ferrings in the back room, young Terris attracted by the prospect of free sleeping quarters and a reasonable wage, but nobody alert enough to notice as Makido slipped into the storeroom in search of one very specific metalmind. He'd hoped this day wouldn't come, but now it seemed inevitable that another Shard War would erupt. Directly associating with Shardic power was distasteful for him, but he couldn't trust anyone else to do this job for him. Sifting through the section set aside for copper metalminds, many of which were not to leave the premises, Makido withdrew a thin disk of copper, hidden between two larger metalminds holding the financial data from three years past. The metalmind had been safer here than in his possession, or perhaps that was just an excuse Makido had made to get rid of the thing. He walked back to his desk, tracing the symbol for atium engraved in the middle of the inner ring of copper. Sitting down, he took out a roll of aluminum foil and a pen. Supposedly, the ancients had gone so far as engraving words in steel, but this way was so much more convenient. He unrolled the aluminum and held the metalmind in his right hand, pen in his left. Taking a deep breath, he tapped the memories in the metalmind, and immediately found himself standing in the SilverPoly labs, back when the Shards had been safely contained.

@Indigo Weasel, does the win condition that your faction chose(not the win conditions standard to all factions) immediately end the game upon completion?

Oh. Does your faction hold Odium? Will be my second suggestion for a question.

Also it’s gotta be color=red
