Alask watched the group depart, a smile on his face.

When the group arrived, all that was left was a shattered and flaming rickshaw, a man of middle age burnt on the ground, injured but alive, and the silhouette of a figure on the rooftop, in dark clothing.

“Stay back!” they yelled - a female voice - and their hands began to glow as they drew a complex Aon in the air.

Four twisting columns of fire launched from the rooftop towards each of the group. The dark slums of the forge lit up and cast dark shadows as the four beams shot towards their targets.

The silhouetted figure took off, trying to jump between rooftops. She was sure her Aons would do the trick. No one had ever dodged a fire beam before.

Sam saw a bright flash, and tapped all the speed he could. The world slowed to a crawl, the dogs in the distance were silent, and the leaves blowing through the air hung in place.

It was an eerie place, but Sam was used to dealing with it. What he wasn’t used to was the four columns of fire coming towards him and the others.

He sprinted as fast as he could, and pushed his companions out of the way. He quickly burned through all of his steel reserves, and the world snapped back to normal.

The four fire blasts rushed right into where they had all been just milliseconds before. They struck the street behind them and exploded in a massive fireball.

Sam slumped to the ground and started to shake at the physical exertion he had just been through. He reached a shaking hand down to his belt to try and grab a vial of steel but to his horror, his last vial was broken and empty. He was stuck defenseless and weakened.

Marie bursted alight with stormlight as she prepared to take the flame blast when she felt two hands pushing her and she reflexively tried to hit them with her elbow but only found the air. She then saw the Savant on the ground. and everyone else just out of the way of the flame blasts. Maybe he was an iron compounder then?

"Thanks" She said as she sprinted toward the woman

We won't reach her in time. She'll lose us.

No kidding? She thought at him in a sarcastic tone

She jumped and touched the roof, asking it to open holes before the woman's feet.

Excuse me to point out obvious thing, you have indeed had perfect awareness of everting in the last days. Polaris thought back in the same tone

Er, meaning?

Your brother.

What about Auré? Is just this about how I gave him the message in a letter instead of talking to him?

The. message. was. "Your parent are dead.". You are supposed to give that kind of news in person.

He scares me and you know it. What was I supposed to do if he started asking why I couldn't protect them?

Why are you scared of him? You beat him in a fight more that nine times out of ten.

What does that have to do with anything?

You’re welcome.” Sam gasped out, and laid back on the street slowing his shaking form to a stand still. He wouldn’t have allomancy, but at least he could store the smallest bits of ferrochemy.

Deckh arrived at the scene and threw up a speed bubble around Sam’s shaking figure, giving him a moment of peace to recover. “I saw you save them,” Deckh said. “Nice work.”

Spoiler

Out of character: is Sam a compounder? He’s got A and F steel, so can he compound to get incredible amounts of speed without any storage time?

“Thanks.” Sam stuttered. “You have any small bits of steel on you?”

I think that you still have to burn it for full potency. He has bracers on, but I don’t think anyone can swallow one of those easily; so he has speed, but not at the level his savantistic addiction needs for him to be normal. I think of his addiction kind of like Spooks. Without burning steel he has trouble controlling his speed, thus the shaking and bad fine motor control. He manages to store a little and immediately burns it.

Hey, sorry everyone. If you don’t want to continue this I’m completely fine with that. Just thought I’d write a response.

The four columns of fire exploded over the ground, singing the stone and setting deep black burn marks into their surface, but not a single target was hit due to Sam’s burst of steel.

The silhouetted figure jumped from rooftop to rooftop but Marie’s surgebinding created a hole in the roof and the figure tripped, before plummeting down onto the ground a small distance from the group.

She turned back. The four had dodged the fire beams. Impossible! The figure quickly throw up an Aon Edo, creating a wall of energy as a shield, before working on a large complex Aon configuration. Whatever it was, it was large, taking time to make, and most likely wouldn’t be fun if it was completed.

“Stay back! Last chance! I won’t tell you anything!”

Marie asked the roof to go back to it's original form, unsheathed her blade and ran to the barrier the woman was hiding behind.

Marie. No. Don't do that. We don't know what that barrier is capable of

She stabbed her sword through the wall, the aluminium passing through like there was nothing in its way. "You should all stop underestimating me" she shouted.

The sword passed through the shield easily, causing it to flicker and fizzle out, and the figure jumped back with a yell. The complex Aon remained in front of her, still only half-finished.

“You,” she pleaded to the monster that had appeared beside her, still trying to scramble back. She took out a half eaten sandwich from her pocket and tossed at the beast as a gift. “Help me. Please.”

Surely a beast like that was a sign the gods were on her side. To Marie she turned and scowled.

“I’m not underestimating you. I know precisely who you are: an invader on our territory!”
