Hey, Ark. When it comes to facing Solace, we could do with all the help we can get. He’s super tough for an enemy. If you want to be apart of this mission, go ahead. Unfortunately, the fact that he’s so powerful (you’ve seen his power sheet) is making us incredibly paranoid right now of spies or anything like that. I’m sorry to say but the contents of Weaknesses PM will have to stay top secret. Doesn’t mean you’re not on the team though. Paranoia sucks, I’m just about ready to take the tinfoil hats out myself :P

Aurell stomped back over, "Do not talk of my father as such!"

"Forgive me, but didn't your father kill everyone in Oasis, stage a coup against the ghostbloods, and do a hundred other things that I'm not even aware of?"  Galvris asked.

Posted

"Ok.  You sound like you're stable.  I'm off to hunt this man down.  Is he even a man anymore?"  He motioned towards the tall Elantrian, and the man drew Aon Sao on Galvris.  He added a few modifiers, and Galvris's intelligence increased exponentially.  He would try to deduct Solace's location, but being insane, the man was extremely difficult to interpret.  It was a shame Valdwen wasn't here, he was much better at this sort of thing.  Sadly he had sent Valdwen to gather some stability spikes.  Galvris failed, so sighing, he opened a gateway to Oasis to try to find some clues...

Althea nodded at Galvris, and gradually relaxed. It was good, that he decided to leave. They had work to do, and it did get more difficult with each passing minute.
She smiled at Aurell, extended a hand to place it comfortingly on her arm.
"I know what it's like to loose your parents."
Looking over to Max she added.
"I guess we all do."
Focusing again on Aurell, she made sure her voice stayed soft, unthreatening.
"What happened to you parents? Do you know why he decided to kill them?"

Aurell shook her head. "No. But I was told that he was the one that dropped the bombs. He's a murder that needs to be put down."

Her back was turned to the everyone present. She allowed the physical contact that Althea put forth.

"I don't want to kill him. But that was the requirement of our training the last year before I supposedly killed him. I fear the Darkness was taking hold of him even then."

Althea fell silent at her words, keeping her hand where it was.

"Maybe we can find a way past his darkness. I've heard it's possible for him to overcome it. Though I'm not sure how, since he can't feel anything anymore."

She thought for a while, this was getting more and more complicated with every passing second. Parents. Strangely the thought still hurt.

"What did you want to show us in the building? Do you have an idea regarding his weakness?"

"I've been doing some digging, as of right now I have access into most of the facility. But not the lowest level. Solace was working on something that could spell doom for us all, with a capital D." Aurell said. "Like I said his weakness doesn't have to do with me or other people. The only insight I can give is that the weakness has to do something with him as a person."

"Then let's go and take a look at what is down there. Do you know anything about traps that could hinder us?"

"I've practically lived here for the past year. I'm sure its safe." Aurell said sarcastically. "Need I remind you that Solace built the place. Sixty-seven. That is the number of times I have nearly died this past week alone. But then again I am not really in the system."

Althea simply nodded at Aurell's outburst. Helpful was something else.

"I asked if you know about traps, not if there are any. If there weren't you would have entered that lowest level already."

She kept her voice calm, to take the bite out of her words, fighting each other wouldn't help right now and the one thing they hadn't was time.

"What do you think Max? I feel like we should go and take a look."

Max was uncharacteristically silent this time out. He’d been more and more silent ever since Oasis. The more time he considered what he’d done...

Still plated in his suit of armour, he stood taller than the others, still as a statue. Thoughts flew around in his mind. Connections. Deviations.

Aurell has her parents killed by Solace. Did she really feel sad or was this to empathy from Althea and him. But despite apparently being upset about her parents being killed, she still considered Solace “her old man” and defended him.

She was leading them into a building. One of the lower levels, coincidentally enough. There were traps. Was she going to lead them into an ambush? Or was she going to have them captured by a trap and feign she knew nothing about it. It was Pascal’s wager again.

If there was a trap and they didn’t go, they saved themselves. If there was a trap and they went, there was a possibility of them dying. If there wasn’t a trap and they didn’t go, they would be passing up useful information. If there wasn’t a trap and they went, they would get useful information.

Not going would be playing it safe. Following Aurell could have high payment or high reward, and when fighting Solace, they needed all the help they could get.

“I say we go,” Max said quietly. “There’s a large possibility of information from Solace, and I trust Aurell.” Hesitant, He turned on his mental link with Althea.

Be cautious. This opportunity seems to easy, it’s possible we’re being misled. Keep your guard.

@Sorana

You are right. But we can't risk to not follow her, can we?

She looked over at Max and then realized, that she had only seen his face once. Back in Shadesmar, close to Hellbent's tower. He had always been wearing his armor afterwards. Quietly, he had spoken quietly. That was a change from his behaviour earlier. But then, most of the time she had known him, he had been insane. This was crazy, all of this. She wished again, that nothing of this had happened, that nothing had changed. That they hadn't split up, had stayed strong and together. But it wasn't relevant. Solace was back and they needed to cope with what happened.

Are you sure, you trust her? And more importantly, are you alright?

"Let's go. We'll follow you."
she adressed Aurell.
"Do you know if he keeps some infused spheres somewhere? And maybe something to eat?"

Suddenly, a box with a parachute fell out of the sky, with Alleyzon packaging. Inside was a red stone heart, with on it in aluminum it said "Max+Althea". It fell right in front of Althea.

"Spheres? I would guess they would be part of his experiments on the lowest level. Which..." Aurell paused. "very dangerous. Food he keeps in his office where we are headed to now."

She turned to them smiling. "Are you sure you want to follow me still?"

Althea stared at the heart in disbeliev. A heart? She took a careful look at the package, if she could find a notice of whoever sent this. This was embarressing. And aluminium meant she couldn't simply change the inscription. Leaving it alone she turned to Aurell.

"Yes. We will. Give me a moment, I will fetch some spheres before we go down there. If it's as dangerous as you say, I don't want to go there unprepared and I used up most of those I had with me earlier."

For nothing. Just to keep her own darkness at bay. Turning to Max she added:

"Do you need something as well? The place I worked isn't far away, I'm back in a few minutes."

The words from the mental link echoed in Max’s head. He looked up when Althea asked her next question, whether he needed any supplies. “I vial of zinc wouldn’t be bad,” he replied with a smile, and then immediately resumed his frown.

They needed to focus on Solace. The Epic. A small flash on his armour indicated Max’s Aons had recharged. That was good. It meant he could use the forcefield again. His attention turned back to the question she’d asked via the link.

You ever wonder what’s our purpose here? He asked through the link. He didn’t know why. Why we arrived here, why we exist? Life can be good, but it can also be bad. I mean, when you’ve got that... that..

Nevermind, he shook his head. Off topic. No I don’t really need anything.

And nice box.

Summary of this thread until now:
Solace/ Sephtis as he calls himself now is the director of the foundation (see op). He relvealed he was an epic and after the events in the Oasis thread (in short: the council decided to follow TFA, Solace/ Sephtis arrived there and threatened everybody opposing him, Max went crazy and rioted everybody, so in the end it ended in a bloodbath) came back to the Alleycity, close to the foundation and started killing everybody close to him. After a short conversation with Max (Itiah) and Althea (Sorana) he left (thread: The rise of villanry). Max and Althea met Aurell (Mraize), who was raised by Solace/ Sephtis. They plan to enter the foundation to look for anything that could be helpful to determine Solace/ sephtis weakness. Some others acted as well, partially questioning Solace/ Sephtis, partially declaring their alliances. (if you need this information I can read through the thread and look it up)

============================================================================================

And nice box.

Althea was still thinking about his question about life, why they were here, forming an answer when the comment cut her line on thought in half. The box. Blushing she handed it over.
"I guess it's for both of us."
she told him and then hastily turned away.
"I'm back in a minute."
Breathing in her remaining stormlight she concentrated and left.

She knew where to go, had spent a lot of time there, so it was easy to conjure up the image she needed to travel. Only when she appeared in her lab, did she realize, that she hadn't answered his other question. Well, that had to wait. The laboratory was empty, save for some of the creatures there, devices someone had worked on. Her warning to leave the city obviously had been heeded. Walking through the silent halls she used the moment to collect herself, to concentrate. They needed to stop him and then they needed to rebuilt. To make sure something like this didn't happen again.
She stopped in front of a room Lusk sometimes used and then used her own personal code to override the security and entered the room. Zinc. Lusk had worked with zinc, if she remembered correctly. It took her a while to locate a vial, but she pocketed it and left the room again, locking it again behind her. He would probably miss it sometime, but she didn't really care about it right now. If they survived she could always tell the quartermaster to deliver another one. And if they didn't, well then she doubted that Lusk was left to get angry. Turning left she entered another room and walked over to a safe. Entering another code she opened it, then placed her finger on a sensor. With click the door opened a bit and she grabbed the handle pulled it towards her. Exchanging her dull spheres for glowing ones, she also grabbed the small crystal lying there, this time leaving a short note with her sign, before closing the safe again.
One thing left to do. The kitchen. There was always some food around for those working late, or staying the night. Like herself. She had spent more nights here, than in the place she called her own. Putting some sandwiches in a bag she stopped when she saw her reflection in the cooktop. She looked exhausted, worried, like she needed a good nights sleep. Which she did, she quietly reminded herself. Closing her eyes, she took a deep breath, allowed herself a moment to calm down. One thing after the other. Go back, see what was hidden in the floor Aurell hadn't been able to access so far. Stop Sephtis, one way or the other and then meet with the council. Elsecalling back to Max was the easiest part of that list.

She offered him the vial and smiled.
“Here you are.”
Over their link she added.
If it’s necessary – anything but desperation.

Silently she hoped, he would understand.

And yes, I’ve wondered. Not only about my purpose, but about life. There are days when I feel like, the world would be a better place without me in it, without me killing people, without our conflicts destroying cities. I have no idea why I am here.
She hesitated and then added.
Sometimes it’s hard to find a reason to live, to go on, to get up in the morning. When he asked earlier if I want to die and I told him no, it was a lie. In that moment it was a lie. And I was proud, that I was strong enough to lie, to not tell him yes, just kill me and I’m done with all of this.

“Anybody want a sandwich?”
she asked both Max and Aurell, abruptly changing the topic.
“And of course, after you Aurell. Let’s go."

A shimmering in the air... shimmered.  Galvris stepped out, "I'm back!!  Did ya miss me?  And yes, I would love to take a sandwich.  Sorry about your father," he added to Aurell.  "So, are we going into this lab thingy?  Thanks for inviting me."
