Stonerunner he/him Posted November 8, 2018 Posted November 8, 2018 Hello! I've been on 17th shard for a while, but never posted or been active on the shard. I just attended the Skyward release party in Orem. I got book #8! But in line I felt almost a little out of place, to the fault of nobody. Thishis community is just so large and these events give an opportunity for people to get together. I just got thinking that I should get more involved with the shard. What are your suggestions on getting involved? How much time do you spend on the shard? My comere knowledge is limited, but I do enjoy reading, can I still get heavily involved without such a depth knowledge of cosmere? Thanks 3
Callsign: Necrosis Posted November 8, 2018 Posted November 8, 2018 Hey, I am here to be of absolutely no help to you, but I'm in the same boat. Kind of. Just went to the release part last night as well. Went to school in a Doomslug shirt and just finished reading Skyward, (which I loved) so I decided I'd finally get around to making an account and talking to people who cared about this kind of stuff instead of just jabbering in my friend's nonchalant ears.
+Invocation Posted November 8, 2018 Posted November 8, 2018 Jeez, that didn't take long for the Skyward names to show up. Welcome to the both of you, @Doomslug and @Callsign: Necrosis. To answer the original question, just show up. Weigh in on things. Ask questions. Don't worry about looking stupid (we've all asked a bad question or five), just learn, read, and expand your knowledge and book collection. As to how much time I spend here, more than I should. You don't need a massive knowledge of the cosmere to get started here (I had only read Mistborn and Way of Kings when I first signed up), so you're welcome to come hash things out. As always, read the books eventually, because a fresh perspective is useful, but in the meantime, just enjoy yourself.
Callsign: Necrosis Posted November 8, 2018 Posted November 8, 2018 my book collection could only be expanded by one book (the second White Sands book) I have the rest, and at least half are signed, I've just never bothered to come online before. But I am taking a class from him in the winter, so I am rather excited. Thank you much for your welcoming.
BitBitio he/him Posted November 8, 2018 Posted November 8, 2018 Welcome, you two! Skyward is scudding amazing. My callsign would be: BitBitio.

None of us arrive with "a depth knowledge of the cosmere", asking the oddball questions and getting theories shot down is how we all gain more. That and actually being willing & able able to travel to these Events where WoB's are born, so you are already ahead of the curve on that one! If you are looking to "give back" in some more tangible way, there are monthly goals for the Coppermind Wiki that you can always help with.
Stonerunner he/him Posted November 8, 2018 Author Posted November 8, 2018 (edited) Thanks for the feedback! I have read everything cosmere, I just am terrible at picking up anything besides major plot points. One other question, is there a great place to search what has been asked before? Let's have a question regarding a theory in Mistborn, but don't know if it is a topic previsly discussed, how is the best way to search? Or should I go ahead and just ask it on the Mistborn thread? I think I am here. he/him Posted November 8, 2018 Posted November 8, 2018 If you like writing/roleplaying we’re very accepting of new members.
Stonerunner he/him Posted November 8, 2018 Author Posted November 8, 2018 Just now, I think I am here. said: If you like writing/roleplaying we’re very accepting of new members. I actually have been dying to get with a group to play the Mistborn Adventure game. I had a buddy that was starting to get a group together, but it all fell apart when he got accepted to a graduate program on the other side of the country. 1

The Arcanum Link at the top is a fantastic, searchable repository of the WoB's ("Word of Brandon", tidbits he's given us in Interviews, Q&A's etc. It will suck you in, so be careful if you have some place to be. The site's thread search is quirky but useful, though as a general rule if the topic is horrifically old it might be worth making a new one rather than necro-ing the old thread. But in general I dont think anyone is going to bite your head off for asking a question or broaching a topic they've heard before. Worst case Ive seen is people just post a summary list of the similar discussion topics so they dont have to rehash.

We don’t play the Mistborn Adventure Game (though it sounds pretty fun). We do FFRP. If you want to check it out, just scroll to the RP section in the forum and click on the ‘Alleyverse’ subforum. It’s pretty cool!
+Sorana she/her Posted November 8, 2018 Posted November 8, 2018 Hello and welcome to the shard! You can always head over to the community section and start posting there, or maybe the general Brandon discussion, is also not that bad a place to start. And of course you definitly should check out the Alleyverse (the FFRP @I think I am here.) mentioned. We are always happy over new participants!
