Gasper he/him Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 I am in the middle of rereading Oathbringer and I noticed that in Nazh's notes, the Rosharian glyph pair Kalad means eternal. And given that at least some of the Five Scholars went to Roshar, I think it is likely that Vasher named Kalad's Phantoms after that. Eternal Phantoms, Eternal guardians of T'Telir. It is one page 519 of the hard back copy I have. 6
+Invocation Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 Yeah, there's a lot of stuff like that mixing around, and that's a pretty solid idea. Good catch.
Weltall Posted November 6, 2018 Posted November 6, 2018 Kalad's Phantoms are named after the alias that he was known by in T'Tellir at the start of the Manywar, or at least the name history records. We don't know if he called himself that or if it has a local Nalthian origin. We also know there's at least one other apparent linguistic connection between Nalthis and Roshar that Brandon has confirmed is a coincidence so it's entirely possible that this too is a coincidence. Brandon's noted that a lot of these things are (a good example would be Ati the Vessel of Ruin compared to Aon Ati) though sometimes they're intentional. The trick is figuring out which is which. But either way, good spot! I didn't catch that one. 2
Gasper he/him Posted November 6, 2018 Author Posted November 6, 2018 My reasoning behind the naming of Kalad's phantoms is the Vasher took the name of Kalad because it was an in joke because he can live basically forever. Kalad, the eternal returned, made Kalad's phantoms, Eternal Phantoms/Guardians of T'Telir. Vasher realized that Stormlight could make him live basically forever and that is why he took the name Kalad.
