Pockets on women's clothing are demonstrably smaller on average than those on men's. It's not uncommon for a phone to be a tight fit in women's pants, but I'm currently wearing shorts that comfortably hold my 1 liter water bottle.

Note: of course, the material of the clothing is a factor. My shorts are stretchy, but even in terms of actual dimensions the difference is significant
