+Invocation Posted September 16, 2018 Posted September 16, 2018 In Oathbringer, Hoid makes the light drain out of Shallan's Girl Who Looked Up illusion. How? Is it just because he has Yolish Lightweaving?
2 +Extesian he/him Posted September 17, 2018 Posted September 17, 2018 The answer is surprising Quote Questioner [PENDING REVIEW] And is Hoid now, like... He can already basically Lightweave. Brandon Sanderson [PENDING REVIEW] He can already... I would have to delve into that during <more times>, but he was limited, and he's still limited. But there's stuff that he's been trying to do for a while that he can't quite get working. Questioner [PENDING REVIEW] 'Cause it seemed like when he and Shallan were creating that story together of the wall... Brandon Sanderson [PENDING REVIEW] Right, he was using her power, right? And guiding it, he wasn't doing it himself. Questioner [PENDING REVIEW] Is that something he can do in general, just help people with their powers? Brandon Sanderson [PENDING REVIEW] Not necessarily. That was pretty special circumstances. source
1 Mestiv he/him Posted September 17, 2018 Posted September 17, 2018 I believe he was manipulating Shallan's illusions, because they weren't locked to her identity, since she was having an identity crisis. Her illusions were unlocked like the south Scadrial medalions. Anyone knowing how, could manipulate them IMO. Hoid obviously knew how to do it. 5
0 +Artemos he/him Posted September 17, 2018 Posted September 17, 2018 I would assume that he's using Yolish Lightweaving. The two magics have the same name, after all.
0 Dunkum he/him Posted September 17, 2018 Posted September 17, 2018 He has also had a lot longer to practice his craft than she has.
0 Zelly Posted September 17, 2018 Posted September 17, 2018 Same ability, different planet's magic. I would guess that lightweavers could probably detect and interfere with each others illusions. Maybe we'll see Shallan and her squires having this happen to one another. I assume Hoid needed her to supply the light since he couldn't access stormlight (though now that he has a spren, maybe he can).
0 Overlord Jebus Posted September 17, 2018 Posted September 17, 2018 Considering the times we've seen Hoid Lightweaving have all included manipulating smoke or fire or power, I have a feeling Yolish Lightweaving is all about manipulating what's already there. Whether it be smoke, powder, or a Lightweavers illusion. 4
