Has anybody wondered how lift talks to nightblood

I was always under the impression does not speak outload ! It speaks to his weilder telepathically . When Vasher held him he never spoke to Vivienna. I assume he spoke to Vivienna when she carried him ! So how does lift communicate with him/it. She has never welded him and I’m assuming she hears his thoughts in her mind . Any thoughts ? I was thinking it was part of her Boon/curse. One of her lesser known benefits is she can touch Wyndal . But I think it’s that. She exists partially in cognitive realm !

Vivenna and Vasher both hear Nightblood in Warbreaker when he's not being held, and Nightblood speaks to Old Chaps in the boat when he's still underwater. 

He can just do that.

Just assume it can talk to anyone it likes

If it couldn't communicate at a distance, how could it have people pick him up and DESTROY. EVIL.

Once Nightblood has fed off a person, there remains a Connection between them; it;s how he can sense where Vasher & Co are.  Presumably the ability to communicate is part of that same Connection.

Vivenna never used it, and could talk with it even in Warbreaker. Since spren can talk and show themselves to whoever they want it would make sense that a "Robot-Spren" (term approved by Sanderson himself for analogy purposes) could talk to whoever they want.

Not until after she drew it If Im remembering correctly, which would have let it feed on her, creating the Connection.  She didnt use or feed it nearly as much as Vasher did, but as far as I understand him he feeds on anything that draws him. 

Granted that doesnt explain Old Chaps, but in Old Chaps case we have a WOB directly that Nightblood is better at communicating with people who are mentally unhinged.  I suspect that's a similar Cracked Spiritweb mechanism that is so important to Preservation&Ruin communicating to folks.

Actually, that explains it perfectly. Nightblood fed on Lift's stormlight/awesomeness then was able to talk to her. That fits with the WoB in the annotations that Nightblood forms a connection to people he feeds on, so she shouldn't feel nausea anymore either.

Right.  As far as I know Old Champs is the only random bystander he's spoken to.  Part of it, we know, is that Old Champs wasnt all there upstairs, though Nightblood was also more specifically exerting himself accomplish it, and we know Nightblood has abilities and shenanigans that even vasher doesnt fully know or understand.

Well I read Warbreaker, so no not really. I know Vivenna could hear Nightblood after being judged and passing so this wasn't particularly surprising.
