Much as I enjoyed it, I have to say my part in the game was relatively boring. If you started off normal, there wasn't really anything to do other than vote or enter the Breath lottery and hope for the best. I guess I should have made a better attempt to pay attention and follow everything. Oh well. Whether I get a special role in Game 5 or not, I will do better. This I swear!

And I just wonder... If the Pahn Kahl doc alone was 65k words, how many words total were related to the game? Counting the open thread, any game related PMs, and the dead doc, it would well have amounted to a Brandon book's worth of words. Wow.

I'm almost sad I didn't die this game. The whole reason I established my character as a lunatic Priest of the Stick was so my death could be this bit I told Claincy.

"Also, if I die at some point, could I start to Return (glowiness and all), get up, and then become a stick? The form of a Returned is based on their own perception, after all. Then someone can accidentally step on me and kill me again. I think it would be a hilariously trollish way to die."

I'd just like to note that if Wilson hadn't killed me, I had no intentions of "evening out" the numbers and going to peace talks. I had gone over every angle in my head how we could wipeout the idrians to the last man and still ensure she was eliminated when that was finished.

Unfortunately, we had to trust she would stick with us last night for any hope of that succeeding. Plus, Aili's lifeless meant wil'son wouldn't have been able to kill her as was the plan anyway. Oh well. It was still fun trying to pull it off.

I have to disagree; especially considering that I started out with a single breath!

Personally, I think that those without role or abilities are the most important members in the game. They are more likely to take risks, as I did by faking my giving up of breath, and as such, they're the most likely to see the game without trying to take into account any roles.

They're of little use to the evil team and yet they can pull a great deal of influence. ;)

Of course, now that I've pointed this out, the next evil team will use that to their advantage, but it still stands.

If you don't have a Role or Ability, that doesn't make you useless.

It honestly puts you in a prime position! You're capable of doing things that other roles couldn't do just because that might make themselves a target!

My point is, that even if you wind up as "normal," that doesn't mean that you're useless. I could recount instances within just the few games we've already have were a "normal" would've made all the difference, but I shouldn't have to.

You're still a huge part of the game. You're still a dynamic part of the game!

Personally, I think people put too much emphasis on roles. They are important, yes, but if you have someone that can riddle out the evil faction (Shout out to Dyring so far) without any role at all, are they suddenly less useful for not having a role?

Don't sell yourself short. Don't determine your value based on roles. At least that's the way I deal with these games.

I think the fact that everyone could do something - Enter the Lottery - ironically made it seem as though people had less to do? Because rather than think 'I have a chance to do something interesting at night later on in the game', it felt more like 'I need to get more Breath in order to be useful'.

Even as a Returned, and hence having a semi-unique role, I felt there was little to do at night other than enter the Breath Lottery (and claim various reasons for not saving the people who died to Claincy), particularly since I was in no PM groups at all, being a new player, and thus didn't use the time to plot either. I definitely felt as though I was waiting for my numbers of Breaths to become useful, but after the game finished, I can see that I was looking at it the wrong way at the time.

Very good points, Metacognition. I see now my error in thinking. I guess my problem was that, being new to the game and having a normal role, I didn't really have a sense of the strategy and didn't get too into the game. Had I been a Special Role, I would probably have made a better effort. I got a sense of that in the Quick Fix game, in which I was one of the Eliminators.

Well, if you have told me that... I was under the impression you were going to kill me the second things got even. And then you suggested giving Aonar my name right at the start of the night, and I was like "That's it. He's dead." But beyond just the Lifeless protecting Aili, there was also the fact that I was strawmanned. So anyone I killed that night would've ended up with my lynching during the day, since the Hallandren didn't have the numbers to overcome the Idrian vote.

Mail, did you not change the Codes last night? Because that's another thing I'd thought about. The Idrians had changed the codes, and I'd be dead the next night regardless.

We were going to have Cen do it, but he never got the original, partly because I wasn't able to get on that night. And that's why I didn't rope Dainard either

Posted

Yeah, I knew you were supposed to change them, Rick, which if why I was just fine with you getting roped. My plan had been for the Idrians to change them so they could still get a kill. If I'd known Wes' entire plan, I would've tried to set it up a little differently (making sure you guys held onto the codes). Taking out the entire Idrian side could've been a lot of fun. And getting them to kill you guys during the day. Ah, well. It was still a lot of fun.

And come on, Dyring. I need to know so I can stop doing whatever it is that's giving me away. :)

Yeah, that was an oversight on my part. I did actually mean to mention to you that my biggest goal was to completely win the game, not even the score, but I got caught up with figuring out how much of the plan to give each person due to the information leak we had and forgot I hadn't actually passed along that extra bit of incentive to stick with us. Yet another example of why I need to start keeping my own notes for these games and not relying completely on memory.

Aili and Dainard are the leaders of each respective nationality and form a two part government. They govern the city together.

If no one minds, I'll make another, since there aren't many here.

A dual-nation committee is formed to patrol and inspect the area to prevent such rebels from causing destruction once again.

Ah. And since I was the information leak....however, that's information I wouldn't have passed. And it definitely would've certified my sticking with you for longer than I did. The biggest reason I killed you was because I honestly thought you planned to kill me the next day. And I wanted to kill you before you killed me. Turns out we killed each other. Ish. :P

The lifeless army is nowhere near as large as it was before the events of warbreaker, but the Hallandrens have been gradually building it up again. I do find it interesting that the "devout" Idrians seem to want control of the lifeless abominations. :P

Wait what? Someone suggested two reasonable/sensible ideas that equally benefited both sides?! :P

Anyway, 8 hours left to submit proposals.

Yeah I am still around. I'm just trying to catch up on Uni work.

That is a very clever insight and very useful feedback :)

By making it so that everyone could do something at night I made it seem more like everyone should be able to do something of reasonable significance every night and as a result people felt less empowered when all they could do was search for breath. Some new players who don't have a role always feel like they have little to do but this setup probably made that worse. Psychology is an interesting beast.

You all see now why I was excited about that last night =)

Yes, this is a big problem with the Elimination game in general. There are always people who think "I have no special abilities, so I am useless", but that entirely misinterprets the way the game works. Some groups that I've played with have people who basically try to get themselves killed off if they don't have a role, so they can wait for the next game and hope they'll have a role.

With most games in general, we're conditioned that in the game world, we are special, and the things that are special about us will be part of the game. Not so with Elimination - at first, it appears that the game is what will make you special, but soon players are divided into two - those who gripe about everything because they expect their game abilities to carry them, and those who realize that judging and manipulating people is the real ability. The game abilities in the original are more for flavour, a little something to spark discussion.

I propose that the Hallandrens and Idrians work together to create a defense plan to keep the orphanages safe.

You know, so nobody steals from them anymore!

3) Aili and Dainard are the leaders of each respective nationality and form a two part government. They govern the city together. +4

4) A dual-nation committee is formed to patrol and inspect the area to prevent such rebels from causing destruction once again. +4

5) I propose that the Hallandrens and Idrians work together to create a defense plan to keep the orphanages safe.

6.1) I propose that Hallandrens and Idrians each take control of half the lifeless army. +10

6.2) I'm thinking more 70-30 in favor of Idris. +13

6.3) Lifeless remain in the control of Hallandren

To vote simply state the proposal number, for or against, and the number of votes you wish to cast for it. Remember that you each have 10 and you cannot retract votes.

For proposals 1-5 they will individually be passed if they have more votes for than against at the end.

For proposal 6 whichever option has the most votes will be passed.

Phase 2 begins and will end at 23:30 AEST / 13:30 GMT on Wednesday. Votes will not be accepted after that time.

Sorry that this is late.

I have to heartily disagree. I was a normal Idrian and gave my only breath away the first night. I was a drab for most of the game, but I was glad to have things to do, even if it was jut entering the breath lotto. The only times I started losing a little bit of interest in the game was the period of time in the middle when I didn't have anyone to conspire with via PM.

Also, case and point, chide went inactive after only a day or two, and he had what is arguably the most important role in the game (the spy).

I'll start this I guess.

I will put three votes for proposal 3 and three for number 4.

I will use two votes on 6.2

Rowan will apply 5 votes FOR proposal 1 and 3 votes AGAINST proposal 2. his last two votes are bring held back... For now.

I think you are misunderstanding what I meant (due to poor wording on my part perhaps). I am not saying that I think most people would feel that way, but it would effect some (particularly new) people in that way. If I know that it is doing so then in future I can see if I can find a way to improve on that without detracting from the game. If I run Nalthis again I would have no intention of removing the breath lottery, I really like how every player always has at least 1 option. However without changing that it may be possible to improve it so that the experience is better for newer players as well :) If he hadn't told me that it could have that effect I wouldn't have thought of it at all. Hence it is useful feedback.

Any way I could improve on it I want to know =)
