Hi, I've been rereading Alloy of Law and it has made me think: I hace been looking through past posts and WoB but there is just so much there! So please feel free to redirect me if this is answered elsewhere.

We know a bloodmaker can choose the rate at which they heal, but can they choose which wounds to heal?

If they had a broken leg and a shallow cut could they choose to just heal the leg, or would both heal at the same rate?

What if they had a broken arm and a broken leg - could they differentiate between two injuries of the same type?

Any thoughts?

I think the healing process is pretty automatic, with life-threarening injuries taking priority. Maybe healing savants have greater control?

Doesn't Wayne talk about this in BoM?  How it healed the worst injuries (the spine) first, etc.  It was when they played Rotten Tomato.

You're right RShara, there is more in BoM I forgot.

This is the bit I think:

"Sensation— and agony— flooded back into him as his metal-mind healed his spine, focusing on the worst wounds first."

He then heals legs, shoulder and toes are mentioned as well.

From the phrasing it's not clear if this is a concious choice or not. I like your idea,  Belzedar, that a very experienced bloodmaker could overrule this: perhaps preferring to heal a lesser wound on the face say, purely for cosmetic reasons over something slightly more serious.

I think it heals the worst injuries first because that's the wounds you would want healed first. (perception)

I'd definitely want a broken arm fixed before dealing with various cuts and scrapes.

True. Me too!

Though if I had a slightly worse broken arm than broke leg, it would certainly be a consideration as to whether I would heal the leg first and so have less difficulty with mobility in the short and long term.  Of course that would depend on if I would have any healing left at all for the arm.... hmmmmmm.
