Aleksiel Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Perhaps the brands don't count as wounds now when they're healed, so they stay the same. I'm curious if someone with the progression surge can fix them, however.
Gamma Fiend he/him Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 I think it's more of Kaladin's Identity, how he sees himself. Since Stormlight Healing seems to take place in the Cognitive realm, it's all about Kaladin's thoughts and self-view.Lopen doesn't really seem to be bothered by his loss of an arm. He doesn't see it as a handicap. Although he should have a very one-armed cognitive self view, with all the jokes he makes. He'll still be the best Two-armed One-armed Herdazian who has way more cousins than you. 3
FollowYourMuse she/her Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 The re-growing of his arm is suspicious as possibly more than just squire level - it does seem more like growth - re-growth than standard stormlight healing. On the other hand since I want Lopen to fly maybe he will be one of the 3 Bondsmiths ? 1

On the other hand since I want Lopen to fly maybe he will be one of the 3 Bondsmiths ? We don't have enough evidence to say that regrowing the arm is beyond regular stormlight level. Jasnah's survival seems to indicate that very few things are beyond regular stormlight healing. So far the only real contradicting evidence we have is Kaladin's scars, which could be a cognitive realm issue.

Though until we know how Jasnah pulled that one off, I can not say for sure that it was healing and not something else. 1
Chlehrma Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Lopez is king of the herdazians. At the end of the book, Lopen is saying that he needs them to update the book to include another king. Also, there were five vorin kingdoms, but one vanished utterly and the Herdazians are Vorin in their own way.

On the other hand since I want Lopen to fly maybe he will be one of the 3 Bondsmiths ? Kaladin regrew a shardbladed arm.... There is nothing suspicious about regrowing a normal arm. I think Regrowth is just Stormlight healing that you give to others besides yourself, since Stormlight can heal pretty much anything. As for Lopen, i'm almost positive he will be a squire. It mentioned Kaladin's men glowing lightly, which leads me to believe they drew it directly from the storm, so no reason he wouldn't draw it from the stone. As for him possibly being a Surgebinder, I doubt it, since he has no spren we have seen. At least Kaladin was followed by a Wind spren before he gained his abilities, and had gained a reputation for his fighting due to said spren bond. Lopen is just a one armed Rosharin-spanish man with some cool abilities due to his friendship with Kal. 1

FollowYourMuse she/her Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Bondsmiths don't fly. You're thinking of the Skybreakers. True but they do have the Gravity Surge and Tension .... I do not see how those 2 could not be combined into some kind of flying, or floating at the least. They have not been mentioned to fly, but I do not see anywhere they have been noted as not flying

Leafs he/him Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Lopen is the best character in all the Cosmere. I hope he survives forever. 1
AerionBFII he/him Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 He sent Renarin with orders to speak with the king and requisition some emerald broams that Kaladin could borrow for his trip. Elhokar had finally arrived, in the company of a group of Herdazians, of all things. One claiming his name needed to be added to the lists of Alethi kings . . . I almost died at the nod toward Lopen haha!!! 3

AerionBFII he/him Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 Everytime a new Herdazian character is introduced i instantly think 'Are they a cousin of Lopen's? 3
Gamma Fiend he/him Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 Everytime a new Herdazian character is introduced i instantly think 'Are they a cousin of Lopen's? Of course! They're all his cousins, gancho! 1
Laryna she/her Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 I think he might be a squire, but it would be interesting to see him as a Radiant. "Oh, storms yes! Everybody, give the Lopen your spheres! I have glowing that needs to be done.” 1
Exitao Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 IIRC, the text says that the Windrunners are one of the few orders with a heirocracy (or chain of command). I think the glowing bridgemen will be the core of the Windrunners. (I wonder what would have happened had Kaladin not regained his honour spren.) It's curious that the Lopen in invested without a spren, but I imagine that the spren will come. Otherwise, no shard weapon. 1
synobal he/him Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 Lopen should become an Elsecaller and become Jasnah's apprentice just for the lol factor. 4
DocHoliday he/him Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 Lopen should become an Elsecaller and become Jasnah's apprentice just for the lol factor. The first thing that comes to mind when I read that is Homer Simpson choking Bart.... "Oh, storms yes! Everybody, give the Lopen your spheres! I have glowing that needs to be done.” Best line in the book. Ever. 1

The Count he/him Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 Any one ready to ship Jasnah and Lopen then? Lasnah? Jaspen? Or is this already a thing?
synobal he/him Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 You sir, are a genius ! Any one ready to ship Jasnah and Lopen then? Lasnah? Jaspen? Or is this already a thing? I dunno about shipping, that isn't really my sort of thing, but yes I am a genius.
Vestis Etoris Prime Targ Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 I dunno if we should take Lasnah/Jaspen lightly...Given what happened with Szeth and Nightblood (which was also mentioned in these forums purely as a joke), we might actually see the above pairing take place (which just for the record would be absolutely hilarious!!)
Teccam Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 (edited) Yeah I was leaning toward Stoneward also. As for the squire thing I don't think they draw in stormlight themselves. More likely they just get some of the excess from the radiant they follow. We see Squires in one of Dalinar's visions in WoK. I definitely remember them glowing, though I don't think we see anyone healing. But it seems kind of odd that they could draw/possess Stormlight but not actually use it (unless they also act as Stormlight reserves for the Knights to draw upon). I think maybe the Squires can draw on Stormlight for their own use in the way that Surgebinders can, possibly due to speaking the oaths of the Knights Radiant. But because they lack a bonded spren, they cannot Surgebind, nor make any other use of the Investiture beyond its innate personal benefits — healing, enhanced stamina, and the like. And possibly more abilities we haven't yet seen. I also think therefore that it's still possible for Lopen to *become* a Knight Radiant, even if he is just a Squire as of the end of WoR. It would just be a matter of bonding with a spren and speaking the remaining oaths as applicable. Edited March 13, 2014 by Teccam
