Maelstrom he/him Posted December 25, 2017 Posted December 25, 2017 Hello there! I was re-reading the part of Oathbringer when Dalinar kind of ascended-ish and, when Odium thought Dalinar had ascended, he screamed: "We killed you!" Does this mean that multiple shards-maybe Odium and Cultivation- teamed up to destroy Honor? Any theories or answers?
ZenBossanova Posted December 25, 2017 Posted December 25, 2017 Brandon has really refused to clarify what was happening here, but he has said that Dalinar only said the third oath. So, when Dalinar said, I am Unity, I think Odium temporary confused him with Adonalsium. That is the only group murder we know of that Odium/Rayse was a part of, was the Shattering of Adonalsium. 1
Patrick Star Posted December 25, 2017 Posted December 25, 2017 It's almost certainly one of two things: 1 - Odium confused Dalinar for either Honor or Adonalsium, as he seemed to become a sliver at that moment. As for the "we", it's uncertain at the moment, since we literally know nothing of Cultivation's motives outside of most likely "Don't get killed by Odium." It could refer to the listener army, maybe the fused in the spiritual realm did something? I imagine we'll figure out the details of Honor's death at some point. 2 - Odium is referring to Evi. Dalinar heard a voice say "I forgive you", which was likely Evi in the spiritual realm. In this case, he'd be referring to himself and Dalinar, based on his speech. To expand on 1, I don't think this is permanent for now, but was likely the result of Dalinar speaking the third oath of the Bondsmiths, as we have WoB that Windrunners and Bondsmiths are the two orders that get a Super-Saiyan style power-up after speaking an oath.
MistbornEdgedancer he/him Posted December 25, 2017 Posted December 25, 2017 i took it to mean Odium and Rayse, like how the author of the second (or was it first?) letter in Part 2 also talks in collective
Yezrien Posted December 25, 2017 Posted December 25, 2017 I support the Adonalsium interpretation. I think there’s a spiritual shadow of Adonalsium, and that’s what’s been telling Dalinar to “unite them.” When Dalinar united the realms, Odium glimpsed this shadow in the spiritual realm, and basically saw a ghost.
teknopathetic he/him Posted December 25, 2017 Posted December 25, 2017 Some people also think it might be referring to The author of The Way of Kings: Nohadon. The book constantly references the words from the=at book "giving off light", and Nohadon visits Dalinar in a non-stormfather vision/meeting. Dalinar's book glows in the final battle, and it eventually is struck by lightening as Dalinar holds onto it as a religious item. The book has been about Dalinar connecting with Nohadon, and I personally think Dalinar is uniting the bond smiths of the past 5000+ years. 1

I pretty much took the Nohadon Dream as something Dalinar's drunken mind came up with. Plus, Nohadon has probably been long dead for thousands of years, and I doubt he was able to become a Cognitive Shadow to stay alive that long.
Cameron Posted December 25, 2017 Posted December 25, 2017 Hi, My personal theory is that Cultivation helped Odium kill Honor as part of an agreement with Tanavast that bound Honor's splinters to collectively oppose Odium and keep him bound. Not much evidence yet, but it's implied Honor's intent increasingly overwhelmed Tanavast's to the point where he cared more about the technicalities of oaths than the moral intents, so he might have agreed to sacrifice himself to give humanity/parshendi and cultivation time to regroup.
Bort he/him Posted December 26, 2017 Posted December 26, 2017 Welcome to the Shard, @Cameron Don't trust the cookies! I think the 'We killed you!' line was Odium referring to him and someone else killing Tanavast. The Stormfather is Tanavast's cognitive shadow, created when he was dying. Then he went onto the spirit realm when he actually died. I think Dalinar used the fragments of Tanavast in the Stormfather to reach out and connect with his actual spirit. I do also like the theory that Odium was referring to Evi.
