ScavellTane
Quote Taxil mentions Yelig-nar, named Blightwind, in an oft-cited quote. Though Jasnah Kholin has famously called its accuracy into question, I believe it. Yelig-nar had great powers, perhaps the powers of all Surges compounded in one. He could transform any Voidbringer into an extremely dangerous enemy. Curiously, three legends I found mention swallowing a gemstone to engage this process. Yelig-nar is said to consume souls, but I can’t find a specific explanation. I’m uncertain this lore is correct. Quote One of the Fused stepped forward and proffered a small, uncut smokestone toward the human, Meridas. Could Amaram manifesting Skybreaker surges because Yelig-nar was housed in a smokestone? If Yelig-nar was placed within any other gemstone, would Amaram have manifested the surges that corresponded to their gem-type/order? Side note: Quote Something stirred deep within her. Glimmers of memory from a dark room, screaming her voice ragged. A childhood illness nobody else seemed to remember, for all it had done to her. Did Gavilar experimented his dark gemstone with her? Or did the 'thing' the Fused is digging for under Kholinar reached out to her? Or am I just over thinking it? Willow
Didn't Amaram also show off some other surges, such as melting the ground and getting Kaladin's feet stuck, like cohesion or tension?
TheEdgedancer
Yes he also showed Abrasion.

Good point – I haven't seen anyone mention Jasnah's illness in connection with Gavilar's dark gemstone. When she first mentioned it, I assumed it was sort of like a young Shallan situation: Jasnah exhibits Radiance as a child and her abilities are suppressed by her parents, leading to internal trauma. However, it is more likely in context that Jasnah's illness is related to whatever sorcery Gavilar was fumbling around with. I think another quote about Jasnah's childhood illness alludes that she had some sort of insanity. If he'd tried to bond his daughter to an Unmade (which seems cruel and unusual even for late-period Metaphysically Ambitious Gavilar) it would seem like schizophrenia to an outsider. The question is, if no one knew what Gavilar was doing, why is it being covered up?
Toaster Retribution he/him
Amaram seemed to have access to a lot of surges, not only Skybreaker ones.
ScavellTane
Yeah, I listened to the audiobook. Must have somehow glossed over it.For some reason I only distinctly remember him melting the ground, floating and the flaming blade. I'm surprised you caught the phrase immediately before this, but didn't quite make the connection with this phrase. I think it's very clear that Amaram was consumed by Yelig-Nar and it was the Unmade that was responsible for his transformation into crazy crystal-beast with all 10 surges. He swallowed the stone and got the power, which we may see another time depending on what exactly happened to that stone.
Randall Thor
I don't think Yelig-Nar is confined to the smokestone anymore. Kaladin describes seeing a dark smoke curl from Amaram's dead body – which is presumably the Unmade escaping.
ScavellTane
My though was that Yelig-nar bonding a gemheart would grant all the powers, but when housed in a specific gemstone would only manifest the surges tied to the gem type. Now going through the text I see.. Quote Amaram raised it to loose again, and a line of crystals jutted out along his arm, cracking his Shardplate. Tension Quote As Kaladin came in for his attack, Amaram tapped his foot, and the stone ground became liquid for a moment. Kaladin stumbled, sinking down several inches, as if the rock were crem mud. It hardened in a moment, locking Kaladin’s boots in place. Cohesion and Division Quote The highlord pushed with one foot and glided across the ground, incredibly quick, approaching Kaladin and swinging. Abrasion Quote He soared in an incredible leap, far higher and farther than even Shardplate would have allowed. And he hung for a time, sweeping close to Kaladin, who dodged backward. Gravitation Looks like everything is on the Right side of the surgebinding chart. Couldn't find a reference to Adhesion though. Wandering Investor
@ScavellTane Didn't he also light the air on fire at one point? I'd have to reread to be sure.
