Sigsyl
Apologies if this had already been brought up in the wake of WoR but I'm still pretty new to the forum. Is there any more advanced knowledge of larkins and what they do? They seem to feed on stormlight (which makes a banker having one as a pet a little bit irresponsible) and after Rysn kills the thief who was trying to steal the King's drop, her larkin absorbs its stormlight and she remarks that it has grown bigger. Do we know why it increased in size? And is it possible that there was a spren (maybe even an unmade) stored within the King's drop that Rysn's Larkin has become a vessel for?

We know from Peter that the Larkins are the adolescent form of the Lanceryns, a greatshell from Aimia.

Really? That's awesome! So the Greatshell's from Aimia were essentially Carapace Dragons? And it looks like their growth may be dependent on Stormlight consumption, as opposed to growing over time. So, hypothetically, with enough stormlight her larkin could become fully grown very quickly. 32 minutes ago, Sigsyl said: Do we know why it increased in size? At this point, I am not aware of a specific reason why it increased in size. However, I think we have enough information to make some pretty good guesses. Since it is a creature that gains its sustenance from investiture (we have yet to see it consume anything else). So logically, through consuming investiture, it will grow, similar to how we gain mass by consuming food and then can use that food to grow. Do we know of any other creatures in the Cosmere that can sustain themselves on Investiture? For comparisons sake. On the second question: I highly doubt that there was a Spren/Unmade in the Kings Drop. Unmade give off light that is dark, so that is immediately ruled out. For spren in general, we have yet to see the Larkin consume a spren, but i doubt that it can. When there is Stormlight around, we have seen it seek it out and try to eat it, but the Larkin doesn't appear to seek out Spren like that, so that means that it likely cannot eat a Spren. Most likely, the Kings drop contained nothing but a large amount of Stormlight.
ScavellTane
The King's Drop would contain the same amount of stormlight as any of its size, it just doesn't leak.
Elsvette Mintyfresh she/her
So, if the larkin's maturation is dependant on how much investiture it consumes, if Dalinar summoned Honor's perpendicularity for Chirri-chirri, would Rysn suddenly have herself a full grown pet Lanceryn? If she trained him to only drain the Fused, seems like a handy pet to have during a Desolation.
