To encourage preorders, Amazon gives you the lowest price offered while you wait. If there was a random "Order now and pay only X dollars!" special after you preordered but before release, that would become the price you actually had pay when it came out, even if it goes back up before the release date. But! When it's released, they charge you the full price listed at that time, then refund the difference between that and the aforementioned lowest price. Then you feel like you got something special. I got the $4, too, even though they didn't mess up my order (the 6pm delivery time was pretty close to qualifying as messing up my order, though). Even though I'm wise to their games, it did make me kind of feel like I'd gotten something special.

And then I discovered that I pre-ordered the Kindle version too... so I finally started reading around 9PM Tuesday and finished at 2AM Thursday. If my son hadn’t had a school interview it would have been faster...

(I am aware that is not always the case and Amazon is important to people, but if you have a bookstore nearby please use it. I know it's a little more costly, but man... We'll all miss them when they're gone.)

balluhouston Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 Happy ending to my story... I contacted customer service once it wasn't delivered by 8pm and got a full refund. Book came the next day. I'll wait an extra day to get it for free every time
