TheShogun he/him
So as you're all probably aware, the Mistborn movie rights are up for grabs. But there are problems with movies--gotta keep it under 3 hours (at a max. Less if you're small-budget), which means lots of cutting, and the fact that you usually can't make 9 movie series, for instance. So I think I'd actually prefer (not that I have any influence) a T.V. show, especially given the success of Game of Thrones. And not just a Mistborn show. A Cosmere show, following each of the worlds simultaneously. I think it'd be cool if it spent an episode on Scadrial, then left on a cliffhanger to go to Sel the next week and Roshar the week after. Yeah. Maybe I'm crazy.
Delightful
And not just a Mistborn show. A Cosmere show, following each of the worlds simultaneously. I think it'd be cool if it spent an episode on Scadrial, then left on a cliffhanger to go to Sel the next week and Roshar the week after. I pity the person who tries watching this cosmere-clueless. Especially...if it's the plotlines of books, not just the setting, you could never keep track. Can you imagine one episode of mistborn (kelsier's perspective), 1 of elantris(raoden), one of warbreaker(vivenna), another of mistborn((vin), then roshar(shallan), then elantris(hrathen), then roshar (kaladin) then warbreaker ( siri)......you'de be months in before you even got a repeat viewpoint. Breaking my head here even thinking about it! I agree with you about mistborn though. I cant see how you can turn the series into even 3 movies. it would have to be at least 6-7. I wonder if AoL would work as a standalone movie? Edited February 26, 2014 by Delightful
Iredomi
I would be so much in to this if there were no budgetary concerns I can only imagine what someone going into it fresh would think though. "So wait who are these people? What this is a different planet? Oh the next episode will probably help make sense of things... [TEN EPISODES LATER] ummm... interesting and all but... I have no idea what is going on..." I think something that would be really awesome and completely possible would be either a AoL era mistborn anime or tv series that either follows Wax and Wayne or works as a spin off in the same setting. Of course I still love your idea the ambition in such a project would be awesome. Maybe one day though we can dream =)
Claincy he/him
I think that hopping between worlds constantly would be too hard for anyone to get into, and frankly the main plots of the series are only loosely connected to eachother in any direct fashion. However doing separate tv shows for each series, one for Scadrial, one for Roshar etc etc would work well. Then once the main plots of each individual world have been resolved there could be one full cosmere tv show. Basically I am suggesting in the exact same fashion as Brandon is writing his novels
Haelbarde he/him
What about Wax and Wayne in the roughs? Do a prequel series documenting their lawkeeping?
Claincy he/him
That could be fun. Personally I would love an Alloy of Law movie. I think it would work very well given how cinematic and action focused it is compared to most other books of Brandon's. Beyond that it is funny and very enjoyable. I just think it would make an excellent action movie. (Normally action movies aren't really my thing. But that would be awesome if done right.) Haelbarde he/him
Yeh, an Alloy of Law movie would work well. Better than the Final Empire imo. Re: prequel tv series, it could be narrated by Marasi, as she researches their exploits. It'd work well as episodic, as it'd be a Mistborn crime detective style thing, almost. Cromptj he/him
The plot would have to be padded out a bit for a series but, I actually think that an Elantris tv show could work the best. Some of the other books would be quite difficult to do as a series like Mistborn and Way of Kings, especially as they are not really standalone novels. Too much of Emperor's soul happens in the mind for tv, and a live action Warbreaker would have serious issues in demonstrating the magic effectively.
Iredomi
I agree with you Cromptj I was thinking about this again the other day (yesterday) and I really think Elantris would make the best television series. The whole time limit thing would work quite well for a television series. It could sort of work in the current zombie loving climate and stuff too. jag519 he/him
If it's a full cosmere series, I think it would have to be the way American Horror Story does it's seasons. Season 1 be about Mistborn, Season 2 about WoK, etc. Maybe season 1 be Warbreaker or something smaller that you could do in less than 12 episodes, then mistborn being a full 24 episode season. You could do 3 books and probably the AoL series in probably like 16-20 episodes give or take.
Era
I was thinking this the other day but i think a big budget film would be better, there will be a lot of effects needed because brandons books are really action packed and magic based, a tv show wouldn't get the budget to make it look as cool as it is. 3 hours per movie and im happy Lord of the rings wouldnt have been as good as a tv show with far less spent on CGI and Cast and a cheaper directer. Drakard he/him
I was thinking this exact same thing, only I was thinking that it would strt with Mistborn, and if succesful, move to all of Sanderson's works. Eventually it would get to The Stormlight Archive. Unfortunately, while I think Mistborn would work, as well as Sanderson's other works, I don't think Stormlight Archive could. Its so alien from earth, that the budget would be enormous if done right, and if it was done wrong it would just tick us all off.
