Silva Posted July 15, 2018 Posted July 15, 2018 Ignoring the fact that he stole the Shardblade Kaladin was giving to someone else, helped out Sadeas against Dalinar, tried too hard to have a perfect reputation, and OB spoilers: Spoiler Is dead and tried killing people, Amaram is a great guy. (And I know I missed some things - I was summing up the whole)
Toaster Retribution he/him Posted July 18, 2018 Author Posted July 18, 2018 Yay! Someone revived this! Amaram is awesome. And @Silva you can´t really blame Amaram for (OB spoilers): Spoiler Being dead. That one is completely on Rock.

Toaster Retribution he/him Posted July 18, 2018 Author Posted July 18, 2018 That one is also on Dalinar because Spoiler He offered to help but Dalinar didn’t want him.

BringerofShadows she/her Posted July 19, 2018 Posted July 19, 2018 Next there’s going to be a Sadeas Fan Club.
Life&Death Posted July 19, 2018 Posted July 19, 2018 As characters they are both extremely well written. As people they are buckets of crem. 1
Sherlock Holmes he/him Posted July 19, 2018 Posted July 19, 2018 Absolutely agreeing with you there. In that sense, they're a lot like Denth from Warbreaker or TLR from Mistborn or Elend's brother from Mistborn.
Toaster Retribution he/him Posted July 19, 2018 Author Posted July 19, 2018 Technically, Amaram and TLR aren’t buckets of crem. They try to do what they percieve as right. Sadeas is chullcrem though. Denth is just a mercenary, and is as bad as other swords for hire in other stories. Zane is mentally unhinged and grew up as a weapon to an abusive father.
Life&Death Posted July 19, 2018 Posted July 19, 2018 Very true. But doesn’t everyone try to do what they perceive as right? Mistborn Era 1 Spoilers. (I don’t know spoiler policy so just to be safe.) Spoiler TLR did do what was right. He just didn’t have experience with his powers. And had Ruin influence eventually, but it wasn’t his fault. I also feel for Zane, he was trained to be the way he was, and also had Ruin influence. So I guess buckets of crem is a bit extreme, but Amaram has misguided morals.

There more than buckets of crem. They are the manifestations of Greediness, Arrogance, Stupidity, Ignorance and a bunch of other nasty things. Edited July 19, 2018 by BringerofShadows
Life&Death Posted July 19, 2018 Posted July 19, 2018 Greediness, yes, arrogance, definitely, stupidity, not really, ignorance, possibly.

Yes, there is also a wish to be a hero, but Amaram does care about other people.
Silva Posted July 19, 2018 Posted July 19, 2018 Though not when he’s Spoiler Murderously (is that a word?) trying to kill them while dying.
Toaster Retribution he/him Posted July 19, 2018 Author Posted July 19, 2018 That is actually on Odium for Spoiler Showing Amaram the lies of Vorinism and making him realize that every crime he commited was for nothing. He was weak enough to succumb to Odiums offer of guilt-removal.
Silva Posted July 19, 2018 Posted July 19, 2018 So he’s a poor person because he can’t Spoiler Handle the weight of his decisions. He’d rather pretend to be a good person than really be one. 2
Toaster Retribution he/him Posted July 20, 2018 Author Posted July 20, 2018 Nope. He is a tragic person because Spoiler Sacrificed everything for a cause that ended up being a lie. And when those sacrifices weren’t worth anything anymore, the guilt was the only thing remaining.
Silva Posted July 20, 2018 Posted July 20, 2018 So he’s stupid and doesn’t think things through. You proved my point.
Devout Pathian Posted July 20, 2018 Posted July 20, 2018 I wonder what would we think o Amaram if we got his viewpoints instead of Kaladin’s. I still don’t think he is a good person, but he isn’t pure evil. He’s quite interesting, especially after reading @Toaster Retribution’s reasons. I don’t hate Amaram, nor do I particularly like him. 2

Being a religious fanatic and obeying the orders of people you respect doesn’t make you stupid or unable to think things through. It is not like the Heralds openly announced the fact that Vorinism was a sham. Amaram believed it, and he believed in the ideas that Gavilar (his king) and Restares had regarding what was best for everyone. He even questioned if he was doing the right thing, and he did it often. Both before killing Kaladins men and while sending his letter to Restares. So, he does in fact think things through.
