bartbug he/him Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Kind of last minute, but would Sharpies be fine for the cards, or should I get something else?
karaokeang she/her Posted March 6, 2014 Author Posted March 6, 2014 Fine point/ pen like sharpies are fine. The thick tip/marker types are not, they would have significant bleed through.
davidgiven Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 I put up some quick iPhone images of the notes I collected last night from the LA signing. http://bit.ly/1if1Qoa Good I got there early, explained what I was doing to the store staff, handed out cards to the maniacs in the front first [who were excited and into it], brought extra pens. I showed confused people examples. Bad I actually ran out of cards--I could have likely used twice as many. Also, I should have left a stack near the table where Brandon was signing so that people could fill them out while they were waiting on line--the Memory Keepers could have easily helped with that. Ugly Angela had encouraged me to print things on cards, but I did not--I used standard white paper which means things are thin. Also, I had planned to cut things to size, but this did not happen & some people filed out the entire page which may not work. 1
karaokeang she/her Posted March 7, 2014 Author Posted March 7, 2014 David, Thank you so much for doing this. I took a look at the cards/papers and I can make them work. Also, thank you for sharing your experiences/lesson learneds with everyone. Much love!!!
bartbug he/him Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 I used them all, then left. I was there for three and a half hours. It was sooo fun. The staff was fantastic, giving me a table by Brandon and supplying me with drinks. He was nice and unbothered by my constant thirst for info. I got to talk to some fans and interact with them. I met some Sharders and generally had a blast. He answered my big questions, which I would say change things. Not gonna tell them until I get to a computer, but I can tell you, they are doozies. He read some Silence Divine, which was fascinating. Karaokang, a thousand thanks. We must do this for Stones Unhallowed. 2
Ailessar Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 This is a wonderful thing you're doing, Karaokeang! Is it too late to participate? I can print or hand out cards or whatever needs to be done. I'm going to the Philadelphia signing.

We already have people identified to hand out cards at the Philadelphia signing but I am sure they won't mind more help. Leiyan is pretty active on the site and I would recommend sending him/her a message.
FlashWrogan he/him Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 I will be at the Portland (beaverton actually) signing and have agreed to be the tour archivist for that signing. Karaokeang should be sending me the info shortly to print out the cards. Those that have done signings so far, about how many cards did you end up needing?
davidgiven Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 @FlashWrogan I brought ~30 cards and got 27 back. I could have easily used twice that many. Also, I want to reiterate that printing them onto cards would have been way better. The cards are awesome and make amazing scratch paper for work or kids homework, so I do not see a down side of having extra. I would print 100. 1
FlashWrogan he/him Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 I just got back from the signing in Portland (well Beaverton). There were well over 200 people there, possibly closer to 300. I got there 30 minutes before the signing and introduced myself to the bookstore staff. The seats were already filled, and they let me give an announcement up front before Brandon got there to let people know what I was doing and to track me down to contribute to the scrapbook. I found a lot of people by eye contact in the audience and passed out cards (I printed them on cardstock, which worked well) and pens as needed. I had bought a set of gel pens before, which was a nice touch for a lot of the cards. After my initial lap around the audience, I stayed by the table handing out tickets for the signing order. By the time Brandon got there and the signing began, I had gotten most of the the cards out and already gotten most back. A few found me during the signing itself, but interest in my project had wound down at that point. I printed 3 copies of the pdf, totaling over 90 cards. I ended up with 52 cards signed (53 after I do mine) and I passed out something like 75 cards, so I had just about the right amount. Here are some of the cards that stood out. http://www.17thshard.com/forum/gallery/image/365-scrapbook-cards-1/ http://www.17thshard.com/forum/gallery/image/366-scrapbook-cards-2/ http://www.17thshard.com/forum/gallery/image/367-scrapbook-cards-3/ http://www.17thshard.com/forum/gallery/image/368-scrapbook-cards-4/ 1

Better than mine : P, but hey, at least mine is unique : ) Good job at the signing Flash *salutes*. *And upvotes* Man I wish I could go to one and help with these.
Awesomeness Summoned he/him Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Seems I'll need to come up with a way at the Houston signing to indicate right side up for the cards. Didn't occur to me that some people might not know the correct orientation for the glyphs.
Iarwainiel I she/her Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 I am SO stoked about the Dayton signing! Just finished WoR (e-book) early this morning: even more awesome than I had hoped. I hadn't thought that I'd not be able to sit in the regular seats - I hope the bookstore doesn't want me at a separate table all alone - guess that'll be up to me. I'm a not the best photographer, but will try to get a photo to send you. Today I'm going to whip up something a little extra for folks in the front rows. If it turns out, it'll make for a great picture. Thank you, Thank you, karaokeang for making this happen!

I sat in regular seats but stood near Brandon for the signing because I was recording all the questions. You don't have to stay for the entire thing. If you can, make an announcement beforehand and hand out cards then or just go through the line and talk to people there. It is not a secret anymore as Brandon is completely aware of it. Also if you want to see the album it was featured in Emily's post on Brandon's blog recently. I totally forgot to send your cards out last week. I will overnight them tonight. Iarwainiel I she/her Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Angie, I printed out some cards on cardstock, so if you see this before shipping anything to me, you can skip that. I wan't sure I'd have time to print cards due to my work schedule, but it worked out. If you did send me some cards, I'll use yours and mine both. And I KNEW that gorgeous book in the photo with Emily was your handiwork!!! It looks amazing! I am not planning to bring any pens because the bookstore sells pens, and I want to be a good neighbor on behalf of Brandon, Tor, and all of us Sharders. The cards are designed so that just ballpoint or even pencil will look just fine.
karaokeang she/her Posted March 18, 2014 Author Posted March 18, 2014 Ahh.. I just saw this. Thanks for printing cards. I will stop stressing about it.
Argent he/him Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Oh, hmm. Turns out I forgot about this. Chicago signing is this Saturday, so there isn't enough time to send things in the mail (cheaply). Is there something digital I could print, and maybe laminated or something? I feel no shame about using the expensive printer we have at work for printing Brandon-related things
karaokeang she/her Posted March 18, 2014 Author Posted March 18, 2014 Argent, I will get your stuff out into the mail tomorrow. I will send priority so it can get there in time. It is not a significant difference in cost.
Argent he/him Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 As you wish. Did I send you my mailing information already?
Iarwainiel I she/her Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Argent, I have the images Angie provided all set up in 2 Word docs. I'm pressed for time now, as I need to leave soon to drive to Dayton, but if you PM me with your email address, I'll email you the files tomorrow morning. It's pretty easy to make them & they look fantastic!
Argent he/him Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Go ahead and email them when you get a chance. Even if I don't end up using them, I would like to have them handy.
karaokeang she/her Posted March 19, 2014 Author Posted March 19, 2014 Argent, I have your address or you can send me your email and I can provide you with pdfs that you can just print with all the cards on them.
ccstat he/him Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 When are you planning to wrap this up? I am not near a signing but thought I'd send in a few cards anyway. When do you need to receive them for inclusion?
Argent he/him Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 The Chicago signing was a disaster for this project, at least as far as I am concerned. The whole thing with the cards was poorly announced by the store (they wouldn't let me address the entire audience for some reason), so only 2 (4 if you count me and a friend) wrote notes... Another friend of mine composed notes for Shallan's lullaby, and we obviously had the Where's my Chull[/] to show off. Oh, and that one photo of mine...
karaokeang she/her Posted March 24, 2014 Author Posted March 24, 2014 I am still waiting on cards and pictures so feel free to email items at [email protected].
