I hope Kaladin takes the backseat in Oathbringer, and, as you say, that we can see some more fighting Radiants.

I doubt he'll take a backseat since he's one of the three main characters along with Dalinar and Shallan (at least for the first five books), but I expect the world to open up if they can get the oathgates open and more radiants will filter into Urithiru. The action will probably still focus on the main three, but the supporting cast will expand. I'd love to see radiants of different orders using their surges in combination to pull off some really cool tricks.

This is true, but he wasn't needed for all of it. His fight with Szeth at Narak was awesome, and no one else but Nale could have pulled that off (and Nale helping wouldn't make sense). The duel for example: I would have liked someone else to join in the fight. Amaram could have helped, or Dalinar, or even Shallan, by way of illusions. Having Amaram helping would have given Kaladin interesting things to reflect upon, as well.

Whereas I am of those having argued it would be best for the story if Brandon cuts down on Kaladin a little and writes climaxes involving other characters, once in a while, I have to disagree with you on the 4 on 1 duel. I love this scene and while I was reading, I was literally rooting for Kaladin to jump in and save Adolin. Ever since chapter 28 where Adolin realizes he really doesn't have any real friends, nobody to stand at his back when it matters, I had been crafting scenarios where Kaladin turns out being this friend. Thus, Kaladin standing up for Adolin, in a time of need, had been foreshadowed and seeing it happening was truly satisfying.

Having someone like Amaram step in or Dalinar just to avoid Kaladin getting another "I saved you" scene would have been anti-climatic, IMHO. It is obvious there will be more to the Amaram story arc and it revolves around him not being whom he pretends to be. Making Dalinar actually take a stand for Adolin would also undermine their respective story arcs by, in part, fixing their complicated relationship.

So thus, while I do agree on Kaladin seeming to get all of the "coolest scenes" and on him owning all the climaxes, the story was more effective being written this way. Though I hope Brandon will write climaxes scenes which do not involve Kaladin for OB. My main critic for WoR would be how Brandon went from Part 3 which had a lot of Adolin to Part 4 where there is no Adolin: I grew attached to his character and I thought it wouldn't hurt the story to give him one or two viewpoints per part. Kaladin has a lot of them, he can do with one or two less.

My suggestions aren't perfect, and the things Brandon writes are better than anything I can come up with. You are right in that Kaladin saving Adolin fit the story the best, just like Kaladin fighting Szeth or Kaladin rescuing the Kholin army at the Tower fit the story best. I just wish that there had been other options for Brandon to take.

I do like the way Kaladin and Adolins characters progressed after the duel though.

I agree with you. I did not mean to say I completely disagreed: I am however not seeing many better narrative whenever I am thinking about WoR. The changes I would make are relatively small: shorten Kaladin's prison scenes, add two or three viewpoint chapters for Adolin, mostly in part 4. I however do not think any other character could have unraveled the climaxes we were given, thus changing this would require changing much of the original story.

The narrative as it was made also help push forward both Kaladin and Adolin's characters into interesting ways. While I hated the prison chapters, I loved the fact Adolin stood up for Kaladin: I feel this was an important moment for his character.

This being said, with Kaladin being away in OB, I certainly hope at least one climax scene will not involve him.

Agreed. I certainly want to see climaxes without Kaladin this book. Give Adolin, Dalinar and Shallan time to be the huge stars.

I wanted to skip every interlude ever. I didn't like most of them, I understand the purpose and what they needed to convey. I even paid attention to them "The second time". Although I didn't skip them the first time. Just did not like the break and build and break and build and then sometimes jump right back into the story. Just my opinion. I like intense things and the interludes ruined the intensity a few times for me.
