If we can invest the beaver enough, we might create a Shard of Deforestation.

The concept is interesting. I think that the intent is likely to be slightly different like the shard of ikea.

I seriously think that Brandon is under utilizing this concept

. The Set is toying with hemalergy just takes one mad scientist time to figure out spiking an animal then taking control of it you could use it to spy .  If you could give the animal alomantic powers and use those powers while controlling the animal you have a secret assassin.

Could you spike say a Couple of  lab rats with alomantic powers and breed them to harvest alomantic powers (hemalergy granted powers passdown in sdna right?)

Could you turn a primate into a steel Inquisitor ?

Do they have Ikea on Scadrial though? They might...

I don't see why not.

Is it possible to give cats intelligence with Hemalurgy? Or transfer cat's identity to a human?

Brandon Sanderson
Hemalurgy can do some very, very odd things. And the endowment of intelligence is a common result of tinkering with Shard-based magic.

So, if we spiked a horse through its head, with the spike coming out the other side, could we make a unicorn with magic powers?

This is brilliant! Imagine the Hemalurgy possibilities if you were to give a handful of rats Lerasium and breed them like crazy. The set is trying to make an allomancer army  or mistborn, but it would go so much faster by stealing powers from your allomancer rat army

This... would actually work.

And if you never introduce non allomancer rats to the population, the Allomantic powers will never dilute. If any rats are born without powers, just remove them from the population. Bam... infinite Hemalurgy powers

Also, is it possible to increase the power of lerasium allomancy through careful breeding? Isn't that similar to what the set is trying to do? Don't we do that on a regular basis with other things? Why not Allomancy?

This is...an interesting theory. Although, you would have to be careful so as not to interbreed rats or spike so many that your population dwindles...again leading to interbreeding.

Wouldn’t it also just be better to make a bunch of misting rats? You could only steal one power, and I think this method would use less lerasium, which is already increadibly hard to obtain.

So, you split up the lerasium to maximize the number of rats and power of their allomancy as mistings, and attempt to breed them to make them stronger and into Mistborn and spike whatever you want from them, while being careful to leave an adequate number of rats in the breeding population.

We could also commit mass genocide on all the other rats in existence and effectively make all rats ever allomancers. We can then let them run free and breed on their own, making the entire rat population on earth allomancers capable of being spiked. With pure Lerasium blood lines, it would only get better

Except that the rats would gain intelligence over time and eventually rise up to conquer their human overlords.

That is fine, as long as it is after we run out of atium to compound, or some Vin 2.0 takes us out

Spiking yourself from a rat too many times may have some interesting side effects. For starters, some extra whiskers on your face and a fondness for cheese..

The Great Lord Beaver will protect us!

We could use the spikes we make from the rats to make more lord beavers. And cats. And Sloths. And Geckos. And rusting whatever we wanted to spike.

No. We just have a bunch of misting rats, but don’t let them interbreed. We can only use spikes to steal one attribute from each rat, so having a bunch of misting rats is more efficient, and less dangerous if they do gain intelligence.

Now the question is, can animals have breaths? And are they born with them? If they can and do, then we want them to have a little intelligence, so we can brainwash them to give it to us. If they can't give it to us, we spike it out of them.

You should join the Dark Alley. Your interest in hemalurgy and its applications would be a great addition to our ranks.

Sounds fun, How do I sign up and what powers do I get?

Also another thought, why can you only spike one power out of something? If you don't necessarily have to kill whatever you are spiking, can't you spike something,  an then spike it's mutilated and changed, but still living body? If that was the case, we could do great things with Mistborn. Even greater things with Fullborns compounding gold.

You can find a link to the thread in my signature, or you can go to the Social groups forum at the bottom of the main page, there you will find a thread name , People you wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley. Post there and we will give you further instructions on how to complete your initiation.

To answer your question, you are completely right. The reason that that isn't done to much in the novels is that A: Finding a full born is really, really, really, hard. and B: most commonly stolen attributes are stolen through the heart, or other lethal parts of your body. Without being able to tap or compound gold, you die. Even if you survive the spiking, you are left like something worse then a drab. The literature is unclear about how this affects the spirit web and bind points. Outside of canon, we do these sort of things all the time.
