CaptainRyan he/him Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 Over in this thread, it was mentioned that we have this WoB from an inscription: "Preservation was the first shard to be held by someone outside the original 16." Assuming this refers to the events in Mistborn era 1, do we think it is possible that any of the Shard holders initially picked up one Shard but then traded with one of the other Vessels for another? If so, any speculation on who might have traded and why? 1
lyht Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 Could that even be possible? Even if you wanted to, how would you "trade"? Could you put that much power down, and then just pick up some other power? Where would the power go when put down? How would the two parties keep the power separate? This is also making me realize how little we know about the shattering. How did they do it in a way that kept the power of each attribute distinct? How did they even pick up the power, since now it requires you to have a connection? Hmm.... new complicated problems.
signspace13 he/him Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 I highly doubt any of the original 16 would relinquish their shard for the amount of time it would take to make the swap, if all of the 16 were created by Adonalsium than their connection to each of his pieces would have been the same at the beginning, but after holding the power for any amount of time I'm certain that would change, as can be seen with both Ati and Leras the intent of the shards is heavily influential in the holder, with Kelsier calling Ati a mere puppet of ruin and Leras being basically unable to intentionally harm people.
DrakeMarshall he/him Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 I figure that the quote you referenced kind of implied that there was not even any swapping among the sixteen. That said, I personally believe that originally, Hoid was one of the sixteen, and he decided against taking a shard at the last second, as an act of protest against the shattering, and somebody else took his place.
+Extesian he/him Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 A Shard can be voluntarily dropped. So it's possible. But boy there would be some game theory in play. Who drops first... 1
Betrail Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 Technically didn't sazed pick preservation up first?
