I've got a question. I didn't get that into BS until last year so I never saw them, how long did it take for previous books to be done on the update meter?

I'm fairly new to Sanderson as well, but from what I've heard and how many books he's been able to write in the little over a decade since his first published book, I'm gonna go ahead and bet that the first Apocalypse Guard book will be done by November at the latest. I'd probably say late September/early October at the earliest.

I do wonder if any took longer than normal

Apocalypse Guard and smaller books like that likely take much less time than most of his other books, and at risk of being obvious, Stormlight books take the longest. I'm not super sure about things in between but I'm pretty sure Brandon said Stormlight books take about 3 years? And I think the original Reckoners each came out a year apart.

For those keeping track of the progress bars on Brandon's site, the Apocalypse Guard one refers to the entire trilogy, not just the first book. It'll be interesting to see how fast he is, knowing that (currently at 16%).

I'm being ambitious, and trying to use the progress bar for the entire trilogy right now--since I plan to write it straight through.

So, assuming each book is the same length, he's currently about halfway through the first book. That seems pretty fast.

Brandon writes faster than a compounding Steelrunner runs, apparently.

just when I think Brandon can't write any faster, he does something like this. :P That's awesome that it's for the whole trilogy! Partially because I'm excited for it, partially because that means of Cosmere books even sooner haha

I meant if there were any books that normally would've been, say, 3 months but for some reason took longer than that, not counting when he can't write on the cruise, tours and conventions.

Sigh... looks like Elantris sequels are getting pushed into the future...again...

I can't imagine what you Warbreaker fans are going through! Or are you mostly stoic because Nightblood has kinda dropped off the schedule indefinitely?

I don't think he will completely ignore that although he didn't mention anything about it. Those "in-between" things can very well turn into a sequel of Elantris of Warbreaker. I understand that he wants to tie the loose ends, W&W 4 and Legion, (maybe Rithmatist 2, as well). His main purpose seems to be Stormlight Archives before anything else. When it comes to "books," we all "wait"

Irrelevant PS: hear, hear GRR Martin ...

He already said somewhere that the break between AG book 1 and 2 will be Legion 3 . I believe its because he doesn't have anything ready for 2018 release apart from AG1. There is also a strong possibility that Alcatraz would he a hidden one (written during revisions)
