Kered he/him Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 Warning, sorta not a theory. Earlier today I made a topic in the General Discussion forum about questions. How it was told in a story once that all people have a question that is at the root of who they are as a person. This got me thinking, and I think it would be a cool concept to try and guess at and explain the questions that are at the root of the various characters in the cosmere. I'll start it off with some somewhat easy ones, feel free to disagree and add your own. Kaladin- How far can loyalty take you? Shallan- How poisonous can the past be? Adolin- Can courage solve any problem?

Vague, yet still there. just to clarify, I wasn't mocking your topic. I'm a perpetual sucker for charming, talented people and always think of them as 'good'. Brandon makes superb characters like that but does a beautiful job of twisting that theme. My silly response is designed to focus on that theme and how he takes it in different directions.
Thanatos Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 Szeth - when you immediately realise the candle light is fire, the meal was cooked along time ago.
Kered he/him Posted July 10, 2017 Author Posted July 10, 2017 Haha i didn't take it has mocking. I saw the questions and thought it was testament to Brandon that it still makes sense that all those characters could have the same question, even though this abstract topic.
Toaster Retribution he/him Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 Ruin - Are endings really evil? Straff - Can you be a douche without ever being punished for it? (answer is no, you cant). Elend - What is a good ruler? Taravangian - Can you do something evil in order to accomplish something good? Preservation - Is preserving something really a good thing? Vivenna - Is it right to think of yourself as better than others just because they believe differently? Also, @Extesian you forgot Denth on your list. He is the ultimate version of that question. 1
Thanatos Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 Kaladin - The river tells no lies, though standing on the shore the dishonest man still hears them.

Brightlord M. Alhstrom he/him Posted July 11, 2017 Posted July 11, 2017 Raoden: How can I give hope to these people? Sarene: Will they ever love me? Hrathen: Do I have faith in my religion? Karata: How can I protect these children?
