Yeah I've quoted that WoB a few times but only noticed today the mercenary bit. One of my favorite recent WoBs was that someone is going around the Cosmere getting powers through hemalurgy. Perhaps it's a mercenary. Either way it's interesting to hear.

Could the person going around getting powers through hemalurgy be Kelsier?we know he's already got the spike through one eye(almost sure)

Finally! Was having issues with my account, originally made it just for fun,  but would have never guessed how much I'd miss it if I couldn't enter!

On to the topic, one word. Nightblood. I know at the moment Szeth can't use it. But my headcannon is that if wielded by someone who has even a slight understanding of nightblood, in a vs fight its wielder will win except vs a shard or hoid. Main reasoning are those WoB, and a couple others. 

Skillwise I would put Szeth and Kaladin pretty much on par, with maybe Szeth having a small edge (we all know in Wor szeth gave up). And while syl is awesome, I can't see how she could hold up vs nightblood.

P.s.s. we should open a thread called "imagine the despairing cries if nightblood turns out to just be a sword that makes evil people kill themselves"

While Nightblood is insanely more powerful/invested than a shardblade, I don't really know if it will be useful in a duel at the moment, because its powers are too chaotic, and we already know that it harms the wielder when drawn. If it keeps this trend with whatever other powers Nightblood has at it's disposal, then it won't matter how powerful it is because it will always destroy whoever holds it. It would become Martyr's weapon of choice, but to dangerous for a typical fight, and in a duel, it doesn't matter if you kill your opponent when you die in the end.

I mean, it's not like BS would let Kal die. Well, maybe if he came back like Szeth at the end of WoR. I dunno.

I don't believe for a second that any character is safe.

@Calderis well that's just sad, but you can probably safety assume that Kaladin will live throughout the SA. And if he dies, I will get very angry. Well, probably more sad then that. Hm.

@Smart Sloth an author as skilled as Brandon is going to break our expectations every now and then.

In a story are like Wax and Wayne it's much more unlikely that the main character dies, because well... It's their story. In a story like SA with as many "main characters" as there are, and as devastating as the desolation is going to be... They aren't all going to make it. 

If they do, I'll be disappointed as that's completely beyond belief.
