Question

Is it just me, or do these two magics (or parts of the magic systems) seem very similar? Albeit, Forgery is more about changing objects, but still. It seem so to me like Duralumin Feruchemy could be possibly used to do a similar thing yourself as with Forgery. Or maybe Aluminum would be better (unless I misunderstand Indentity).

This was just a random question that's been bothering me.

I think I agree with you, and will raise you one more: when Shallan was Soulcasting the ship at the beginning of Words of Radiance, she needed to leverage the history it had with the sailors who had crewed her for those years... in other words, its Connection to those men. I think there's another example of transformative magic that uses Connection.

However, from what we've actually seen F.Duralumin accomplish, it doesn't look like it's manipulating the same kind of Connection. We've seen Connection Medallions that let you tap Connection to one's homeland, letting someone instantly learn another language. It's still a 'transformation' of sorts, though this is mental, not Physical. It depends if F.Duralumin can truly store any Connection, or if it is limited to a particular kind, and those studying Feruchemy do not have the precise terminology to distinguish. (I.e., sleep is a form of energy, so someone could accurately but imprecisely say that F.Bronze stores energy. It's just one specific kind of energy.)

Okay, that does make more sense. Unless Sanderson has been misleading us by just saying Connection, I'm inclined to believe that it might be possible to do a similar form of the Connection as in Forgery. I'm not sure how you'd do it, but it'd be cool if you could.

Also, thankfully that wasn't really that big of a spoiler for me, as I haven't read Stormlight yet. I mainly just skimme over it, because I had no idea what you meant in that first paragraph.

On the other hand, Jasnah does not need anything of that sort. I think Shallan should not be what we measure Soulcasting by; after all, she was unable to Soulcast a stick into fire while other Soulcasters regularly Soulcast much more and much more complicated things. (Not to mention things Jasnah did)

On the topic of Forgery - it probably could be helped by manipulating your Connections, as Forgery rewrites those things. Probably you could make Essence Marks that are more off and which normally wouldn't take.

We have only seen one example of Jasnah soulcasting from her PoV. It is far to early to say anything about how she regularly soulcasts

I meant she was able to Soulcast people with little effort. And yeah, that thing with Soulcasting the ropes - she just orders them to change and they do. Given the fact she's much more experienced in Soulcasting...

Also, she can even manage precise, continuous Soulcasting - at one point in WoK she runs out of ink so she Soulcasted words directly into paper.

Oh, I agree with you, I'm just saying you shouldn't frase theory as fact. Especially in the questions board.

I was just questioning Pagerunner's words about Soulcasting using Connection.

I don't think the Soulcasting working in similar way of Forgery and neither of them seem to linked with Feruchemical Connection

I believe the correlation here is with the identity that's involved with making such relics as the bands of mourning. in Feruchemy the identity is directly linked to those able to tap the stored power, in forgery you are altering the identity of the object by essentially rewriting the history of it. I would say the greatest similarity to forgery is the connection metal minds.
