I've been casually browsing the forum for a while now and I figure it's well beyond due that I make an official introductory post. I was introduced to the Cosmere this year thanks to a couple of very enabling friends with an Audible account and good international shipping. I haven't been able to stop since I started reading a couple of months ago -- I just have to finish WoR and start Elantris My partner and I are both working our way through the series right now and, in talking, realized that neither of us can pick even our top five favourite characters. Syl (totally love her!) 3. Jasnah (I mean, she's Jasnah!) 4. Lift (she's way too awesome) 5. Hoid (cracks me up every time) 6. Vin! Vin! Vin! 7. Alcatraz 8. This is a fun opening post Noting these are my favorites, and not necessarily the characters I find the most compelling, just the ones I love to read: 1. Lightsong, no contest 2. Kaladin (my only concession to real character rather than enjoyment) 3. Kelsier 4. Hoid 5. Wayne Because it's not enough, the 5 i think are the best written and most compelling are: 1. Kaladin 2. I hated him from start to finish when reading Reckoners. He was just way too annoying, way too overpowered, and way too sacrilegious for me. I have a hard time seeing what people like about him. Right now it's these guys: Shai Vasher Kelsier Wayne Pattern I like both problem-solvers and characters who make me laugh. Hoid and Lift are honorable mentions. I would say that right now my top five are probably: 1. Vin. Always Vin. 2. Marasi 3. Wayne 4. TenSoon 5. Kaladin Honourable mentions -- Pattern (I love the Audiobook for WoR for a lot of reasons, but mostly for Pattern's voice) and Shallan. Looking at that list, it would appear I don't really have a "type", but I'm okay with that.
