Hemalurgist
I'm not sure if this had been proposed already but I just had an interesting thought. Lifts ability to metabolize stormlight and the fact that the wyndle mentioned that the spren selected her because she was chosen by the night watcher, all remind me of Spoilers For Mistborn: Spoiler vin being able to draw in the mists and being chosen to be preservations heir. While I don't think Brandon will have the lift ascend as that would be to similar to mistborn I think the similarities are interesting and I think it's likely that lift is vital to cultivations long term plan possibly a champion. This assumes the night watcher is being directed by cultivation. Sorry if it's not as coherent as I would like I'm typing this on my phone in the middle of the night. Please share your thoughts. Sorry I just realized this belongs in Cosmere theories, but I'm not sure how to move it. Edited January 5, 2017 by Hemalurgist
Kered he/him
That would defiantly be a huuuuuge plot point, a main character in a SA becoming a vessel. Up their with Kaladin somehow being able to re form Honor. Edited January 7, 2017 by KereDerek
Vissy
But if we're going to have new Vessels, then who will take Odium?
Kered he/him
Obviously Rock.
QuantumSpren
I'm rather hoping that Dalinar reforms Honor, being a bondsmith and all.
+Extesian he/him
I'm less confident Lift was chosen by the Nightwatcher in any big way, but that it was more about her request and the rules of the Old Magic. I find this WoB intriguing. Quote BRANDON SANDERSON So Lift is a really weird one. She visited the Old Magic and asked something very strange, and the Old Magic didn’t know how to treat that, and so answered with something equally strange. So you will actually see what happened with Lift and things like that, but suffice it to say some really weird things are going on. Sounds like Lift just got lucky by baffling the Nightwatcher, and luckier still when the Cultivationspren chose to bond get because she already had such a useful power. But of course there could be much more to it than that.

Sorry I just realized this belongs in Cosmere theories, but I'm not sure how to move it. I mean it is possible that her wish to never change would be granted, it would just take awhile to grow into her role as a shard bearer and becoming basically immortal thus never changing. But the night watcher is of cultivation, and I feel as though she plots and plans what she grants and the effects it will have for her.
galendo
It's possible, I suppose, but why would Cultivation need a successor? She's alive, as far as we know, and Shards don't really die. So unless Cultivation's planning on killing herself or knows that Odium's going to kill (but not shatter) her, I don't really see the point.
IAreNelson
I don't know if this has ever come up, but is the reason her request (one I'm sure lots of people have had at one point) is odd because she is asking a spren of Cultivation? She is asking for one of the most Preservation things you could ask for, but to a shard that is in opposition to that kind of intent.
