So something weird happened a while back. I was being introduced to a new member of 2131 and she asked me if I was a sociopath.

Are you? Or maybe she is? Muhaha!

I went on a trip to my friend's old evil dead cabin last weekend, and there was a live raccoon in the outhouse hole.

I hope you informed her that the term "sociopath" is redundant in professional circles and is not different in meaning from "psychopath", so kindly be more efficient and strike it from your vocabulary. Honestly, the state of education today...

I don't think I am, nor do I think she is.

How is a cabin evil (sentient with an intent of malice) and dead? Why were you visiting? I have so many questions.

I didn't, unfortunately. As 2131 doesn't technically count as a professional circle (we are champions who operate in squares) such information would be useless to her for at least 3 years.

I thought one had a conscience?

That should have been "Evil Dead" cabin, like the horror film. I was careless with my titles, sorry. We went there to go fishing but it rained for 3 days.

I thought I would post a link to a letter than a author sent out to publishing companies that just this week Tor signed him to a contract. I have three reasons for doing so:

1. If any prospective authors are looking for any ideas of how to write letters such as these.

2. These books look really interesting and might some people might want to look out for it when its published in 2020 (yes I know its a awhile. I have a list of series to keep a eye on though).

3. I don't know the author, but from little I know of him he seems like a cool guy and wanted give him a little support

Was at Fencon over the weekend. For those who don't know it's a general fan convention with a focus on writing. There's always this one guy in the dealer room selling old books and I got quite a haul from him.

An adventure featuring the 7th Doctor. I don't really dig the covers from the 80's but so many of these old Doctor Who books can only be brought used so I'm looking past the ugly covers most of the books have.

Another 7th Doctor adventure. Yes it's ugly. Yes she's nude. No I don't know why she's sticky.

My most expensive buy at $20, Harry Dresden himself. The guy was selling another, I think it was book 6, but he was selling it for $70! Finally getting around to everyone's favorite wizard for hire. A little story here, the guy selling was telling me the difference between 1st and 2nd Editions with Dresden, since this is apparently a 2nd edition, but I nicely let him know I'm not that interested in whether it was first edition or not.

Bought this from Kevin Anderson's table. He had other Star Wars books but by the time I bought this it was the only title remaining.

This was a free book left on the advertisement tables. Already owned the rest so I figured why not?

My Doctor Who book collection is small at the moment (I don't have any classic books with the 2nd, 4th, 5th or 6th Doctors at all but I do have new books with all them except the 5th unless one counts the short story collections) but I'm working to grab every single title from New Adventures (7th Doctor only titles), Eigth Doctor Adventures, Missing Adventures (1st-6th Doctors since it was concurrent with New Adventures) Past Doctor Adventures (1st-7th Doctors since it was concurrent with Eighth Doctor Adventures) and New Series (9th-current Doctors) along with any modern special release books.

Hey sharders, sorry for the double post.

I'll be hosting a weekly writing competition over in the SE creativity server https://discord.gg/2kUugpF

If any of you are interested, come one and head down. I think I'll make a thread in Creative Corner as well.

This weeks prompt is adapting a fable/myth/legend/epic/archaic text in general to the modern setting.

It's both, Colfer was commissioned to write a continuation to finish the story. From what I've heard though it ends in a cliffhanger so there's still no ending at this point.

Oh. I've never gotten past the first few chapters, I didn't realise there is no ending.

I haven't started reading any of them, that'll be sometime after I finish catching up with Brandon "slow down!" Sanderson, so I'm not sure how sudden the end itself is, whether it just ends or hints at another book coming eventually.

If they ever make a Stormlight movie/TV show, they should get the guy who plays Kevin from Night Vale to voice Pattern.

Imagine him with such lines as, "terrible destruction to eat!"

(Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go back to lurking for the next month  )

This whole 'sports teams are being disrespectful to the flag by kneeling' is getting stupid. I had to look it up and standing is more a recommendation than a hard rule. My mom thinks it's disrespectful because "you have to be standing and singing" so in a roundabout way she's saying the mute and paraplegic can never show respect. Mostly I think her problem here is more that the team being blasted, the Dallas Cowboys, are black (I'm not a sports fan so I'm not sure if they are all black or are a mixed team) and she is one of those people who find anything a black person does disrespectful.

In less bleak news I'm thinking of maybe doing a sabbatical. I'm thinking of going to Europe, East Asia and doing parts of the States. I'm thinking to pair up with my Danish girlfriend for this since she wants to do a sabbatical as well, though mostly to see the States, so it could be be something fun to do.

Xerxes requires only that you kneel.

@Draginon Often times, "That's disrespectful!" is code for "I don't like that, but I want to force my inconsistently applied preferences on everyone else!"

And it's not like they're flipping off at the flag, just showing respect in the same way one would to a monarch. I also read an article on things people do all the time that are more disrespectful to the flag than this minor thing. Pretty much the flag rules say no wearing a flag, buh-bye flag bikinis and shirts!, no using it for advertising, good luck beer companies!, no displaying it flat, it has to be horizontal at all times unless being properly disposed of, and no throwing away of anything with the flag on it, so don't even think of throwing away your Fourth of July flag decorations or plates!

I got over not standing for the anthem or pledge in the 1st grade when the new kid was a Jehova's Witness.

Besides, didn't JJ Abrams fix this issue already?
