king of nowhere Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 there really is no evidence for it, and there cannot be that early in the story, but I can't help noticing how fitting it would be. Jasnah has a strong connection to all three shards. she is normally cool and collected, but we have seen her executing the robbers in the alley: she seems to hate people doing evil, enough to go out of her way to hunt them, and takes pleasure (not in "sadistic pleasure of hurting them", but "righteous pleasure of having ridden the world of them") in dispatching them. Well, pleasure is too strong a word, but "satisfaction" is appropriate. So that's her connection to odium. she is often described as stern but fair. She treats anyone with honor (except for those she hates). She is pragmatic enough to hire assassins, but she has a moral compass. that's her connection to honor. She dedicates her life to improvement. To become better than she was, to help others become better, to make the world better. To make things grow. To cultivate. Her connection to cultivation is probably the stronger. Then, brandon said that he always imagined her as an atheist, and what better joke to pull on an atheist than to make her a deity? I already envision her post-ascension speech, in an equivalent to the scadrian words of founding: "I am definitely NOT a divinity. I just took upon myself huge powers that make me virtually omnipotent in regard to this world, extremely intelligent and knowleadgeable, and timeless. And so while there is nothing holy about me, from great powers come great responsibilities and I will do my best to protect and shelter and elevate you. But do not pray to me! Ever!" 8

I would love to see a religion to rise from those words that try to all its force to stay in the gray zone between philosopy and religion 1
blad3mast3r he/him Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 haha that would be amazing.... but somehow it doesnt seem likely. Would be very interesting though. And we might have some really cool Sazed/Jasnah conversations. 1

Sadly, since he already did something like this with Harmony's 'seriously, don't waste time worshipping me' routine I doubt he's going to do it again but it would be hilarious if something like this did happen. And I could totally see Jasnah saying that. "Pray to me and I will smite you. But with science, definitely not divine wrrath. Maybe I'll drop a textbook on your head from ten thousand feet up, explaining exactly how I accomplished it so nobody thinks it's a miracle..." 5
king of nowhere Posted December 6, 2016 Author Posted December 6, 2016 eh, i thought about the "he already did something similar with sazed". But then again, he also did a "perfectly arranged marriage" with sarene/raoden, siri/susebron, wax/steris, and shallan/adolin. just because he's done something similar in the past, it does not mean he will not do it again.
Zantis Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 But what would her multi-shard name be? Harmony makes sense as a combo of Ruin and Preservation. But what do you get when you mix Honor, Cultivation, and Odium?
Weltall Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 (edited) Contradiction? Argument? xD Edited December 7, 2016 by Weltall 1
king of nowhere Posted December 7, 2016 Author Posted December 7, 2016 well, there is cultivation about growth, honor about not hurting others, and odium against those threatening which jasnah hold dear, so.... self-defending sustainable development! 1
Vissy Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 (edited) I think she'd only get Honor and Odium, max. Cultivation hasn't died yet, as far as I know. In which case her moniker would be Justice. Edited December 8, 2016 by Rob Lucci 2

Jasnah has a strong connection to all three shards. As much as I would love to celebrate Jasnah's everlasting awesomeness (and sacrifice an occasional goat in my shrine to a backpack and a kind of a bandoleer), I believe that the technical reason why this will not happen is because Honor has already been Splintered. We can speculate that "if anyone can figure out how to reconstitute a Shard, Jasnah can", but it seems like the Shards themselves do not know how to do it.

Ironeyes Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 Kinda makes sense. Especially when you think about cultivation + justice, which also = governance imo
Vissy Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 Isn't Dominion kind of like Governance in terms of thematics, though? A new Shard would have to have a new theme. E.g Ruin and Preservation being total opposites, with Harmony signifying their balance. I can't think of a fitting moniker for a Shard like that, though. Cultivation + Honor + Odium would be an entity which brings things together, seeks to separate & destroy things wrathfully and which also cultivates things and makes them grow. That is just speculation however because we don't know the true natures of Honor, Odium or Cultivation - unlike with Ruin or Preservation, which don't seem to have as much agency as at least Honor and Odium. Justice could be a way to balance Honor and Odium but Cultivation clashes with Odium even more than Honor, thematically.
Samaldin he/him Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 seeks to separate & destroy things wrathfully sounds more like Ruin than Odium to me(except the wrathfully part). I think a combination of Honor, Cultivation and Odium would result in an entity which wants things to grow together but remain isolated from other such groups (because they hate the others), but this sounds too much like Autonomy for my liking...
Vissy Posted December 10, 2016 Posted December 10, 2016 Yeah, I don't really know what Odium would represent. I mean we know it represents hatred, divine rage, and so on, but what is its modus operandi? Ruin just destroys, for example. Odium does that too but there's also something more there. We know on the other hand that Honor is concerned with bringing things together, unifying them, unity. Cultivation seems straightforward. But what Odium brings to the mix is a mystery.
