Revan Kholin he/him Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 There are three types of Metallic Arts; Allomancy, Feruchemy and Hemalurgy. My question to you is, which one would you use in the following: Scadrial Era 1, Era 2 and Earth? 1
manukos he/him Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 i dont think that anyone would chose hemalurgy , too ugly and to suseptible to influence for scadrial i would take allomancy as it would give me imediete status and a\i could use them freely but in earth if smn saw me flying i would most likely be caught and that wouldnt be pleasant so i will go with feruchemy since it is more subtle and i could use it to excel in modern life without being discovered mental speed , physical speed and fortune i think would be most effective unless i can only pick one then i'll go with being a zinc misting , a rioter for obvius reasons

On Earth, I wouldn't mind just being either a Rioter or a Soother, very subtle and unnoticeable. Being a Thug would be pretty useful too, especially for sports.
Kingsdaughter613 she/her Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 I'd take Feruchemy here on Earth. Wakefulness is useful both ways and being able to lighten my self would be nice right now. Health and Luck are great. Zinc would allow you to ace any test. Quite a few others are exceedingly useful, and can be quite subtle. Era one I'd take allomancy. Being a Feruchemist would be too dangerous. W&W Id take both and be twinborn. Steel/Gold maybe. Modern and Space I'd choose feruchemy again, since all the metals should be widely available at that point.
Shadeshadow227 Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 Era 1, I'd probably choose Allomancy. Era 2, I'm gonna cheat and be a Twinborn. Double Steel FTW!!! Earth...same thing as Era 2.
Rasarr she/her Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 Allomancy in Era 1, that's instant +1000 rep points, and in a society like this, I'd need that. In Era 2, though, Feruchemy. The ability to store your wakefulness, mental speed etc. is definitely a win.
Savanorn he/him Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 What sort of scale are we talking? Unrestricted access? Misting level? Because in Era 1 I'd almost have to go with feruchemy, given how rare and useful it is. Definitely not Hemalurgy. In Era 2, I'd be pretty likely to go hemalurgy. Basically because the powers are better, being able to mix feruchemy and allomancy, and there's no Ruin to mess with you. On Earth feruchemy would seem the better choice most of the time, especially with access to all the rare and wonderful metals, but I'd probably go for allomancy.
Weltall Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 Hemalurgy would be next to useless on Earth since nobody has investiture, so all you could steal would be the 'human' powers and those aren't exactly subtle effects. Actually, the only Mistborn setting where I could imagine hemalurgy being a desireable option might be Era 4, because as a crossover there's the potential for really crazy hacks of the magic systems. Still distasteful but if I had to use it, it would be then. So, for Earth I'd go with feruchemy because it's subtle but you could do a lot with it. If I had to pick one metal, I'd go with zinc or chromium most likely. For Scadrial Era 1, I'd probably accept the risks of getting hunted down by the Steel Ministry and go with feruchemy because at that point in time if you've got the talent, you get all the metals. Even if you never figure out the 'secret' metals or the ones learned later that's still a really versatile set of abilities. For Era 2, I'd definitely want to be a Coinshot. Imagine how fun it would be to ping-pong your way through a city where there's metal all around you. xD Though if being a twinborn was an option, I might have to revise that because there's a lot of potentially neat combinations.

You could still steal innate investiture to increase your mental fortitude, physical strength, steal memories, etc. Plus Reckoners Spoiler Maybe you can steal Epic powers? Rithmatist Spoiler Or the ability to be a Rithmatist? In general though, on a normal Earth, hemalurgy would definitely be a lot less useful. Feruchemy would probably generate the most net advantages.
Weltall Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 Okay, fair points on the potential for hemalurgy on some of the other Earths that Sanderson has written but I was more or less assuming assuming our Earth. Unless you're secretly an Epic or something? Has Calamity come and nobody told me?!
Orithiya he/him Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 You've been inside posting to a theory site during the apocalypse. Geez, spatial awareness, anyone? I just saw Hardcore rampage past your window! What kind of music do you listen to? Also hi. 1

Elenion he/him Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 On Earth I'd definitely go with Feruchemy: just think of the crazy stunts you could pull off. Just naming a few: Luck: best gambling ever Memories (or mental speed): pass all tests Strength + speed + healing: pro sports player Mental speed: astrophysicist Breath: scuba diving Weight + strength: sumo wrestler and, my favorite, Speed + strength + mental speed = BATMAN! Mistborn Era 1 I'd go with Allomancy: instant status, plus Feruchemists would be killed on sight by inquisitors. Mistborn Era 2 I haven't read, but I know most of the spoilers. 1
