I have no idea if this has been though of and I don't know if it's right but the readings from WoR have me confused so I'm just going to hash out some thoughts and see what everyone thinks...

Syl mentioned she was the only honorspren to leave Shadesmar to come to the physical realm. We know Kaladin is a Windrunner but also that Szeth is (right?). We know (I think) from Dalinar's WoR vision, or something around that point, that the Heralds trained the KR, with one Herald for each order. So I would assume that the Heralds all had the Surgebinding powers so they could train each order of the KR. The Nahel bond is essential for Surgebinding to manifest and honorspren are needed to produce Windrunners. If Syl is the only honorspren, then no other people could be Windrunners. So could Szeth be the Windrunner Herald?

That's my theory, or I'm just trying to figure out what I'm reading.

Szeth doesn't have a spren. We don't know why but we do know that he doesn't have a bond with a spren

That's what I'm saying. So without the Nahel bond, how does his power manifest? Could he be one of the Heralds?

This seems a bit of a stretch for Szeth to be a Herald. Szeth is bound by his oath stone. it is obviously very important to him if he will do things he hate because of his oath related to the oath stone. The Windrunner Herald, on the other hand, broke his oath as part of the oathpact and abandoned his duty. These two actions seem like they come from two separate people.

Your post has WoR spoilers, so you should use spoiler tags to cover those up or else kindly ask a mod to move this to the Words of Radiance sub-forum.

As to Szeth, we know he's not a Radiant, but not much else. It's highly unlikely he's a Herald (given that Jezrien is probably still around), though a lot of people think he might have an Honorblade which grants him his powers. Another theory is that Odium altering him (because of how odious Szeth is). Any Shard can power any magic system, and it seems likely that all the magic systems on Roshar will use the ten Surges as a foundation.

Ok. That's understandable. Great input. Could he have some sort of amnesia? How in the world could he have his powers if he does not have the Nahel bond?

Edit: How do I do spoiler tags? We could move the post to the WoR forum. I didn't realize there was a whole forum for WoR.

Something to do with the Nightwatcher maybe? He has the boon and the curse. Maybe truthless are those who go to the Nightwatcher.

Welcome! Upvote for joining and posting!

In the editor there is a little icon just to the left of the font box that gives you a drop box that includes "spoiler" as a choice.  If you select the text you want spoiled then select that option, it might help  ;) .

And if your browser doesn't load the options correctly or you are on a mobile version, you can type

at the beginning of your text and [/spoiler-] at the end (without the "-". I had to add that so it wouldn't create a spoiler tag here). Everything between those will be put in a spoiler box. You can also substitute "quote" for "spoiler" if you are wanting to quote someone.

I also want Szeth to be a Herald, because I think it will be ironic if someone finally kills him, and he finally receives the eternity of torture he's expecting -- only it's the Herald afterlife torture, and he just gets sent back to kill more people. I have a theory. :)

Thanks for the tip. I feel like a dimwit, because I knew that from posting on other forums before.

I like the theory. And I think it fits.
