Elendtheking Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Hello everyone As you all remember in HOA, it ( sazed in the words of funding) is said that Vin was chosen by Ruin because she was mistborn, her mother insane and her sister a seeker but it was also said that there were other reasons unknown even to it/him. Is there a WOB about what are those reasons?
Eki Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 I've thought for a while that the main other reason was simply that she had been chosen by Preservation already, and that's why Ruin also wanted to influence her. The same thing happened with Alendi, I think.
Jondesu he/him Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 I think Preservation chose her almost as a decoy Hero of Ages. He knew Ruin would try to hijack the prophecies, so he hid Sazed's true status as the Hero of Ages and instead fooled Ruin into focusing on Vin, getting her to free him in the end, yes, but also into a position where she could destroy Ruin's mind and set up the situation for Sazed to pick up both Shards. jW 2
Arraenae Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Vin was chosen because she had an easily accessible source of hemalurgic bronze (her sister), but Kelsier was also a Mistborn with a potential source of hemalurgic bronze (Marsh). If Ruin had picked Kelsier to free him, things might have gone very differently for the world. Some food for thought.
IndigoAjah he/him Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Ruin was outgambited by Preservation, who manipulated Vin's birth somehow into being Ruin's perfect candidate, whilst knowing, I assume, that she was an ultimately selfless person who would willingly sacrifice herself to complete Preservation's plan. As a side note: Vin is amazing. She should be almost a Mary Sue but something about her and the way she is written makes her one of my favourite characters in all of literature 2
ParadoxicalZen he/him Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 I think the bit about Saze not knowing is how Vin was able to draw in the Mists
Yata he/him Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 Vin was chosen because she had an easily accessible source of hemalurgic bronze (her sister), but Kelsier was also a Mistborn with a potential source of hemalurgic bronze (Marsh). Ruin with Vin had every pieces at the right place to creates a pawn.
Eki Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 Vin was chosen (by Preservation) sixteen years before the Well filled up, and by then Kelsier hadn't snapped, so that's something to keep in mind too I guess. Personally, I think Preservation designed the prophesies to fit Alendi, Vin AND Sazed, along with any potential people who had taken the power of the Well before Rashek. Remember that Preservation wanted Vin to take the power. If she had, Sazed probably wouldn't have Ascended. You could also argue that because of Preservation's precognition, Sazed's Ascension was inevitable, and that Vin would have killed Ruin regardless... I dunno. Prophesies are complicated.

Eki Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 The prophecies were changed by Ruin to fit Alendi and Vin the original ones didn't fit them. Part of them did. Even Ruin's changed versions didn't fit Vin completely, but she still believed they referred to her.
