I'm sure I can tell it aaalllll my problems. The short version is that I don't want to live with/be dependant on my parents but I cant find a job and I have no money so for now I'm stuck, and two of my absolute closest friends live on another continent and I have no idea when I'll see them next. So. Yeah.

So. Yeah. I know that feel. Is there something you could study that would eventually give you a way out? The last couple of years I was living with Twimom and Twidad, I was in library school; so even though I had to take out some loans to get through, I could take classes knowing that when it was over, I'd have a better chance at landing a job that paid enough for me to live independently. Where all have you looked for jobs? You might have a more diverse range of skills than you think.
Delightful Posted June 16, 2016 Author Posted June 16, 2016 (edited) My problem is I dion't know what to study that'll lead to a good career. I know I like humanities - someone actually suggested recently that I become I librarian - but I don't know what path to take. Writing? History? Translation? Media? Journalism? Political science? Social sciences? Psychology??? Editing?? Should I learn to program?? I've tried retail mostly, and advertising on a community email group that got me some babysitting. I just learned how to sew handbags so I'm gonna try make and sell some for now... Im open to suggestions if you have any. Edited June 16, 2016 by Delightful

Social sciences? Psychology??? I've tried retail mostly, and advertising on a community email group that got me some babysitting. I just learned how to sew handbags so I'm gonna try make and sell some for now... Im open to suggestions if you have any. The option I took was to choose a career path I knew would pay the bills and that I would enjoy, even if it wasn't my absolute dream job. If I'd studied what I wanted in college, I'd have a degree in creative writing. The problem is that, while you can make a living as a full-time writer—just look at Brandon Sanderson—you don't necessarily need a degree to do it. You just need practice, hard work, and talent, in that order. There are, however, jobs that will pay the bills and do require a degree, so I got a degree that I thought would land me a decent-paying job. It didn't happen right away—I had to go to grad school for a library science degree first—but I eventually landed a job that pays enough for me to live independently, and I'm able to write in my spare time. So, if you're planning on going back to school, my advice would be to scout out some careers you think you'd like with good entry-level pay and gear your education toward that. Then, if your dream job is something that's hard to break into (like writing) you can pursue it in your spare time and have something to fall back on. So far as part-time jobs go, I'd again advocate going for something that pays the bills. Retail is a solid option. It's hardly enjoyable—the first time I ever said "I hate Christmas," I was standing behind a counter with a line of customers filled with holly jolly rage—but if you establish yourself as a dependable worker, you'll be able to put some money away for moving expenses once you leave home. Another option is restaurants. Hospitality is a competitive field with a high turnover rate, so most restaurants are always accepting applications. What they're looking for is people who will 1) not mind working long, hard hours and 2) can smile at an angry customer threatening to sue over too much salt. If you don't have those qualities when you start out, don't worry—you'll develop them soon enough. So that's another option for part-time work you could look into.

If you were good with math, physics or other science subjects in school, you might successfully learn programming. However, unfortunately this is not a 100% indicator if programming is something for you. During the first year at university I met many students who were much better than me at math, but failed to pass the computer courses. I might look for some good online courses for you if you're interested in it. Obviously they won't make you a professional programmer, but might let you know if it's something you have talent for

Adding to what Mestiv said, it's certainly a skill I would recommend trying to learn and seeing how you handle it. Even if you don't study at TAFE or Uni or something, and don't do it for a full time job, it's the sort of skill that you can probably apply to other things you do, or even just give you a better understanding of how web stuff works, which can be useful in its own right.

Ideologically I think it makes sense to understand how to talk to computers since we use them for literally everything, I just don't know if I can if it's not too much trouble could you look for some courses for me please? That would be wonderful.

No, but there's no single word in the English language for "terrifying display of awakened hatred guaranteed to give you shivers for the rest of the week," so "creepy" will have to do. I will.

I would like to have kittens. But James is allergic, so alas, I cannot. A couple of my friends found something the other night, though, that will first make everybody boiling mad and then happy. So...in the dumpster outside their apartment, they found a mewing bag. Inside the bag (that was tied closed) they found a tiny, not-quite-weaned kitten. Said kitten is an adorable little grey tabby, and they took it inside and fed it kitten formula and now it is a happy bouncing kitten full of energy. They cannot keep the kitten, though, as they already have the maximum two cats allowed by their lease, so instead he is going to live with yet another couple of friends of mine. They have three cats. Two of them are elderly kitties and will probably be offended by the newcomer, but the other is a bit younger and just adores everyone forever, so the kitten will have someone who appreciates him. The part that I find funny: Bob the cat is a giant fat orange ball of dumb. Tiny kitten is cute and grey. I foresee Garfield/Nermal photo ops. 6

The part that I find funny: Bob the cat is a giant fat orange ball of dumb. Tiny kitten is cute and grey. I foresee Garfield/Nermal photo ops. I used to have what appeared to be an allergic reaction to cat hair when I got it on my face, in my nose, or on my bedding, but it doesn't happen anymore, weirdly. I've been living in the same house as like 10 cats for the past three years, so you'd think it would've gotten worse instead of better, but maybe I've gotten desensitized or something... Over this past winter, my grandpa (who I live with) took in a tiny stray kitten he found outside in the snow. There was no sign of the mother, and we were sure he'd freeze to death if we left him out there. At first he was quite feral, hissing at us even when we tried to feed him kitten formula from a baby bottle, but over time he got used to us. My grandpa even named him Happy since he's so friendly now. What's really funny is that I'm the only one Happy will allow to pick him up and cuddle him. If I call him, he comes running and will jump right up onto my lap and into my arms and stay there, sometimes for 30 minutes, while I pet him. And he's constantly trying to snuggle closer to my face, giving me nose kisses and purring. Sometimes he'll sit on my shoulder like a parrot. XD But most of the time if my grandpa tries to pick him up, Happy starts tackling his hand and play-biting. 2
