ThirdGen Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 I had an idea about two opponents who had respect for each other. Long ago they learned that ambushing each other still wasn't doing the trick, so now they greet each other before they try to cut each other to pieces. Then the idea grew. What if there's more than just respect for a worthy opponent? What if it was more of a love-hate relationship but not on the axis of love but on the axis of rivalry? They've become some sort of a sparring partners in duels to the death, which up to this day both of them survived? Now as they approach each other and they know that it must be the final fight, they discover they don't actually want to do it? Another angle: two friends who sought out powers to Resolve Some Conflict discover that the nature of these powers is to make the bearers fight each other to death. One power must win and the other has to die. Then the winner is somehow essential to the world. After his work is done, he passes away and both powers are reborn. And the cycle continues. Attempting to not fight or make a double suicide could result in destroying the universe. Or something. The whole scene would be about them coming at each other, their dialogue. Maybe they stick their swords into the ground and talk all night. And then, when the dawn approaches, they get up and grab their swords. Not quite the same thing, but you might want to check out this movie. 1
Sunbird she/her Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 I was witness to bird murder (birder?) in the church's front yard the other Sunday. My brother called me over to see a large bird sitting in the grass--a bird which turned out to be a falcon. Said falcon took one look at us and flew away, a clump of something ruffled and feathery grasped in its talons. Apparently, the church is not a place of sanctuary if you happen to be a sparrow. Fun fact: birdwatchers often refer to themselves as "birders" and their hobby as "birding." So calling bird-murder "birder" or "burder" would be awfully confusing. XD I guess you could say this was murder most fowl. Ba-dumm-TSS! I approve of this pun. I'm browsing a recipes site for something new and innovative to do with canned tuna that doesn't require me to buy any ingredients. Which is when I came across this gem: That was my reaction too.
Orlion Blight he/him Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 (edited) With all this talk about the Captain America twist, I think it's important that I come clean and am completely honest with you guys. I debated telling you, but this unpopular view must be voiced! I like Teen Titans Go! and believe it is superior to the first Teen Titans cartoon. Edited May 31, 2016 by Orlion Determined

Delightful Posted May 31, 2016 Author Posted May 31, 2016 Can someone please succinctly explain to me, somehow who doesn't read or watch GoT, what the significance of the door is that Hodor was holding?
Orlion Blight he/him Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 Can someone please succinctly explain to me, somehow who doesn't read or watch GoT, what the significance of the door is that Hodor was holding? That seems to be impossible. And though I watch the show: The door he was holding prevented a bunch of ice zombies that were on the other side from chasing our surviving heroes until the ice zombies could break through.
Delightful Posted May 31, 2016 Author Posted May 31, 2016 (edited) real door or magic one? He's been holding it closed the whole time? I think I wasn't clear. I'm saying that I don't read or watch it; and I would like an explanation that doesn't assume I know stuff that I won't. Edited May 31, 2016 by Delightful
Orlion Blight he/him Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 (edited) real door or magic one? He's been holding it closed the whole time? I think I wasn't clear. I'm saying that I don't read or watch it; and I would like an explanation that doesn't assume I know stuff that I won't. Just a regular door. The sanctuary our heroes were at got overrun by ice zombies, so they had to flee. The door was a regular exit that Hodor held shut so the two survivors could get away. He only held it that one time, and only until the ice zombies broke through and killed him. The thing that got fans in a mood is that 1) It was revealed that Hodor's name was originally Willis. 2) The last thing he heard before being killed by ice zombies was the command to "Hold the door". This command was transmitted backwards through time and broke Willis's mind and got shortened to him saying only "Hodor" 3) The mechanism for how this happened is unclear. What we know is Bran can control at least simple creatures' minds and see into the past. At the time the ice zombies attacked, he was looking at a past event that Willis was present for and took control of present Hodor's mind while still observing the past. This somehow broke Willis's mind and explained the origin of Hodor saying Hodor. That last part is somewhat convoluted, but I'm not sure how to simplify it. Edited May 31, 2016 by Orlion Determined
Delightful Posted May 31, 2016 Author Posted May 31, 2016 the time travel thing sort of explains it. I was trying to work out why he always and only says Hodor if the *last* thing he did was hold the door closed. I've kind of got it. Thanks
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 A Kind of Magic has a new chapter. Oh, and Kobold? Voidus? You and other Oregoners, but you two especially, might be interested in the final scene. 3
Young Bard he/him Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 As a part-time lurker of the Reckoners forum, I have to say I didn't get the reference. (I'm really going to have to start posting there one day, when I'm not so busy. Probably about 2-3 years from now. )

Edgedancer he/him Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 I needed that laugh this morning. Behold the sequel chapter in which the plane gets taken over by a school of ninja silverfishes.
Delightful Posted May 31, 2016 Author Posted May 31, 2016 Behold the sequel chapter in which the plane gets taken over by a school of ninja silverfishes. at first I thought this was a response to Trump/Clinton
Edgedancer he/him Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 at first I thought this was a response to Trump/Clinton So... ninja silverfish kidnaping Trumph, while he was taking a plane to his destination? I guess they care about the political future of America.
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 Well it would at least be entertaining. Is anyone else wishing they could vote Ninja Silverfish 2016?
The Invested Beard Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 My vote has been decided. For those unfamiliar, the acronym stands for Sweet Meteor of Death. 5

The Invested Beard Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 I dont know if anyone has thought of it, but most of humanities problems are caused by humanity. I think if you put our two nominees together, one as Pres, one as VP, you'd have an unstoppable ticket. 2
