Stormgate he/him Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 Everyone put your definition of a true author here. An author is one who can tell two stories at the same time; each, by itself, being complete and enjoyable, but combining without flaw and creating a story much better than either alone. 1
Silverblade5 he/him Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 An author who can make a good story out of a seemingly bad idea.
Stormgate he/him Posted March 12, 2016 Author Posted March 12, 2016 An author who can make a good story out of a seemingly bad idea. I wrote a story about a dragon that thought she was a unicorn. Does that count?
Silverblade5 he/him Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 I wrote a story about a dragon that thought she was a unicorn. Does that count? Was that unicorn's name Twilight Sparkle?
Young Bard he/him Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 An author that can make someone want to read what they've written for the enjoyment of it.
Stormgate he/him Posted March 12, 2016 Author Posted March 12, 2016 Was that unicorn's name Twilight Sparkle? It was a Unidragon named Ariane. She saves the unicorns from unemployed dragon hunters.
Seonid he/him Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 A true author is someone who can take worldbuilding and make it into a real story (unlike me...so far)
Unodus he/him Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 To define a true author, you must first define a false author. A false author is someone who pretends to be an author, so logically a true author is someone who doesn't pretend to be an author. ... That sounded better in my head x.x
AnikoliNightmareVision she/her Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 A true author is an author who became or is an author beacuse he/she wants to tell a story.
Jondesu he/him Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 (edited) I think a true author is simply someone who tells a story. There are then good authors and bad authors, but the only ones who aren't truly authors are the ones who don't tell a story (their own or someone else's, real or fictional). jW Edited March 14, 2016 by Jondesu 1
Orlion Blight he/him Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Honestly, I think you guys are focusing on a "storyteller" instead of a mere author. An author uses writing tools and techniques to communicate ideas to a broader audience. An author can write a story, a study, a textbook, a report, etc. An author's quality can be said to be a function of how well they can communicate an idea to their chosen audience. 1
Citadel16 he/him Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 a true author is someone who makes you question your reality. and makes you cry/laugh/feel/angry/lost/sad/hopeful in a single page. 1
aeromancer he/him Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 A true author? A true author can take ideas and concept which are not his, combine then and retell them so that they are his. 1
DreamEternal Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 (edited) To imagine, to dream, to wonder, to create, those gifts are inherent to the human nature, and to tell a story is to share those things. But you don't need to tell a story to be an author, only create it, and even if no one can hear a symphony, the music still exists. To be an author is to carry your wonders and imagination with you, to live not only in reality, but in dreamland. I believe every person is an author. Everyone. Edited March 14, 2016 by DreamEternal
Darkness Ascendant he/him Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 (edited) They hold the power of universes in their hands. They are gods among men, villains among heroes They hold the power of life or death in a single sentence They create. destroy, and rebuild They enjoy torturing the souls of men, one cliffhanger at a time They nurture ideas, weave stories and tell lies They have the power to shape hearts, darken souls They have the most powerful tool in the world They see a blank space......and wonder at the possibilities They chronicle the passing of ages, watch empires fall, and watch them rise They plant seeds of doubt yet bring hope wherever they go They are signs of better days. And all their power lies within a word. I nearly cried reading this after I wrote it in an almost zombie-like trance. Storms I'm good Edited March 17, 2016 by A peasant among wolves 3
