Nahema
English is not my native tongue, so I'm not quite sure I got that right: Khriss says "Ati doesn't know how to Splinter another Shard? Or he hasn't the strength?". To me it sounds as if Ati has splintered a Shard before. Has Ruin been to another planet then?
dyring
To me it sounds like he havent. If he had and Khriss knew, then she wouldent haveto ask if he knew how to do it... Well, hes been on one other planet atleast (Yolen)
Olm
I am sure it refers to the splinterings done bei Odium. If Ruin knew how to do this and had the strength for it, he could have splintered Preservation instead of "choking him slowly to death".
KaIadin
Wait what? What's this about Khriss? Which book is it from?
AerionBFII
I think all the Shards are as powerful as one another. With some better at somethings than others IE Preservation would be better at Protecting than Ruin. Cultivation is better at predicting the future than Honor. Ati just didn't have the Knowledge to do it, according to Brandon Odium managed the Splintering because of a combination of Skill, ability, undispersed Investiture and personally i think he matches his Shards intent so well he gets a higher rate of compatibility. AerionBFII
Wait what? What's this about Khriss? Which book is it from? Mistborn Secret History. Read it. Seriously so many Cosmere info dumps.
Nahema
Ah, okay. So it is "he doesn't know how to splinter one of the other Shards" and not "he doesn't know how to splinter one more". Thank you.
fyodor
I always inferred that Odium was good at killing other shards because the nature of his shard lent itself better to killing/fighting. Much like how Leras as preservation couldn't attack anyone and needed a recently ascended Vin, who was made partially from Ruin to destroy Ruin. Olm
But which shards intent would be more compatible to splintering (=destroying) another shard than Ruins? I would say he's even more compatible than Odium. So I don't think his intent stood in his way. I don't know why he couldn't do it, but I guess splintering a shard is not an easy feat. I would for example bet some money that Odium could not just go to Scadrial and splinter Harmony, even if he in principle knows how to do it. fyodor
Ruin is more of a general entropy/change force rather than violence. Thus Preservation's strangulation. Or maybe he just didn't know how? Or maybe as a "kind and generous man" he never had the same synchronicity with his shard I'm curious if ghost Ati had his old personality back or had been reshaped by being Ruin. I guess the former since he isn't enraged with Kelsier or anything.
Asperity
But wasn't there a line from Leras later on in the novella where he said something like, "Oh I'm being Splintered" or "he's Splintering me"?
