Nazh (BoM Spoilers)

Nazh is definitely the haunted man from the broadsheet. He uses the swearwords of a Threnodite, steals the tapestry map that appears in the book, and uses a gun that shoots shades. It all adds up. I did not personally see him anywhere else.

Have we actually seen his detailed description elsewhere? Secret History doesn't give color to his hair or eyes, and I don't remember a key phrase or chapter to search for in... Words of Radiance? Was he there or in The Way of Kings?

I don't think we've seen him in other books.

Nazh was an ardent sketching the bridgemen in Words of Radiance.

He did catch Rock shooing away a lanky man in an ardent’s robe.

“What was that?” Kaladin asked, catching the Horneater as he passed.

“That one,” Rock said. “Keeps loitering here with sketchbook. Wants to draw bridgemen. Ha! Because we are famous, you see.”

Kaladin frowned. Strange actions for an ardent—but, then, all ardents were strange, to an extent. He let Rock return to his stew and stepped away from the fire, enjoying the peace.

I don't believe we've ever had a solid description of him before this.

Plaeggs, Nazh is a Worldhopper from Threnody, the planet where Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell takes place. He isn't formally introduced anywhere, he is the one who annotates the maps in the books though, and occasionally adds his signature.

His annotations also occasionally voice complaints about how much (potentially life-endangering) trouble he went through to secure the images in the first place. Khriss is evidently not a very considerate employer . . .

Surprised he hasn't quit yet really. It's been, what, centuries? Makes for good jokes for us at his expense though.

I get the feeling that Khriss is your basic absent-minded professor/For Science! type. (Note her conduct during the party, where she usurps Wax's dance without warning, quizzes him relentlessly about the physics of being a Crasher, and then leaves abruptly while muttering about the next question she wants to tackle) I also get the feeling that Nazh has probably learned to forgive her for a lot of things. Also, who says she's his direct boss?

She might not be, but he seems to be running the errands in the relationship at least.

Figuring out how to fish something out from beneath an ocean must've taken some thought. Or worldhopping to Sel, period, despite the apparently dangerous nature of the Cognitive realm there :(

  • 3 weeks later...

I just had a thought for a book where worldhopping is fairly common.

"I'm heading to Nalthis for vacation next week."

"Oh, nice. Are you taking an Oathgate, AonDor, or...?"

"I'm actually planning on taking the Scadrian Express."

"Takes you there a lot slower. Like, an hour instead of a nanosecond."

"I decided to take the scenic route."

"Then take an Elsecaller service, how much more scenic can you get than the Cognitive Realm?"

"They don't go straight to Nalthis, apparently they run into interference with Taln's Scar."

"Right, forgot that. Hey, did you catch the game last night?"

"Oh, yeah. Kelsier is awesome at catching those trick passes."

Now we do have seen him in the Secret History.

He looked like a skaa.

I think he was described as "lanky" in Words Of Radiance, being chivvied out by Rock.  (Trying to sketch the bridgeman tattoos)
