My brother is getting the audiobook of it. So after he listens to it, which will take a month or so, I can listen to it. And until then.... Have you guys heard of the calamity spoiler board? I think you put spoilers there. As opposed to here, where poor saps like me who haven't actually read the book yet lurk. Just a suggestion... I have no idea what you put in there, but I have this urge to click on a spoiler tag every time I see one, and you guys aren't helping. So please, be kind, and don't kill me slowly any more than you already have.

On a side note, now that I've drastically reduced Falchions weapons, could I bring his age down again?

I'm with Voidus here. The stuff that happened in Calamity has a lot of bearing on this game, so discussing spoilers here is necessary. I know it's hard, though—when Firefight came out, I had to wait a week after its release to read it, since I was getting it as a birthday present and my birthday was five days after the release date. So I can sympathize, but spoilered discussions here are essential.

I'll let those more adept in swordplay weigh in, but I'm leaning towards no. Mastery and age go together, so unless you're willing to also reduce his proficiency with those weapons, I say leave his age as it is.

For practical purposes I don't have a problem with it, there's no set level where you become a Master at it, he'd be far better than almost all characters in the RP even at a young age which is what matters.

Yeah, at this point I guess the age is fine.

As far as realism is concerned, I still think you're pushing the age thing. But if everyone else is okay with it then I won't be the stick in the mud.

True master at even one weapon would be kind of impossible for the age but as Voidus said, the difference between mastery and just being good at it won't really play into the RP.

Really I'd argue that there's no such thing as being a true master, master implies you've learned all that is possible, which is pretty much impossible. Even the best people in the world can still get better.

So yeah for practical purposes I'm happy with it.

Okay, so now I just need to figure out the city I'll be in...

Thanks everyone for all the feedback you gave me so I could make this character awesome!

P.S. My brother brought up that there are a lot of dropped epics that nobody uses anymore in cities. Would it be possible to take those, and have my guy fight against them, if they have been dropped? I'm guessing I'd have to contact the owners of the epics, but it would be a chance to practice with my char and to give some closure to the dropped guys. Not all of them, but hopefully some of them.

There's a good chance that complete mastery of a melee weapon wouldn't even factor into half of the fights this guy would get into. There's only a handful of Oregon Epics I can think of who'd flinch if faced with a guy with a sword, and one of those is Backtrack. :P

So long as you fighting them makes sense with what they were doing (for example, in Corvallis, fighting Mannequin doesn't make much sense unless you're trying to free Converter).

And a lot of those fights still come with consequences, killing a faction Epic would incur the ire of that faction.

I guess killing them is better than just doing nothing with them the but as the others are saying, it's not something we can just give you a carte blanche for.

Out of curiosity, who is your brother?

And with Backtrack you don't even need skill. :P

Well to be honest with most Epics you don't need skill, either the Epic can completely ignore sword attacks or they have nothing to defend with no matter how skilled the swordsman. Timeport isn't any less effective because he's not a master of battleax techniques, most people don't carry swords they carry guns and guns don't block swords very well even if all you're doing is hacking randomly.

I wrote a thing... I kinda like it.

well actually I wrote three things (in the last hour, mind you), One is my next Antimatter post, which you will definitely see later, so RAFO B)

the other is a thing about the hunter blowing up over half a dozen minor Salem epics whom have never been heard of, which will only be seen if you want it. i think I remember notes about there being no plot to Salem, which is why I wrote this.

the last is my favorite, although it has nothing to do with the current RPs, I think it would be fun to have as a future RP in this setting, which is the artificial city of Arsington, under huge attacks from Stormeggedon and the Knights Blasphemy (whom I have yet to reveal), and suffering from epic caused radiation field, which you can keep from killing you by wearing that epics weakness, this metal.

would you like read these?

True, although having a sword doesn't really give you guranteed victory, especially if you're just swinging it around, wheter or not the other person has a weapon.

The Antimatter post definetly, Salem doesn't really have anything to do with me (is that an actual attempt to integrate that character by the way?) and as for something not connected to the actual RP, that's what the WHOOC is for.

Where is Falchion located again? If he's in or near The Dalles, he could fight Paladin - though I'm not sure how that would turn out. Mastery of a sword is a good thing, but atium-like precognition is a whole separate ballgame.

The Salem post will almost certainly guarantee he gets murdered to death pretty quickly, Salem doesn't really have a plot yet but there are some developing at the moment.

Well they can always just run away but that's true not matter how skilled a swordsman you are, other than that sword does tend to beat random unarmed person.

I don't know yet. I'm still trying to figure it out, but yeah, sword skills can't beat a powerful precog. It could probably take out fortuity though.

I am thinking I'll send him to Portland or the Dalles though. Anyone have any issues with that?

Yeah, I know I wouldn't get a carte blanche (whatever that is) on massacring them, I just figured I could do some basic cleanup, while doing some writing, while hopefully furthering the plot. And I was planning to contact the epic ex-owners before I killed any.

And I'm referring to PK my brother.

Fortuity was one of the stronger precogs we know of, he could dodge bullets with ease I doubt a sword is going to be a big problem, especially since he has enhanced dexterity too.

Portland is closed to Epics at the moment.

Very minor Calamity spoilers:

I'm really getting a kick out of imagining a bored Knighthawk trying to puzzle through Funtimes' mobile messages.

"The bouncy castle... that's gotta be a code, right? Code for... nope. It's real. Calamity, she just took a selfie in front of it. I swear, Oregon's the only place worth spying on anymore..."

"Oh hey this other town is being ruled by normal people, maybe I should send them some tech to help.... Did that guy just send a barrage of missiles into his own town? What the hell is wrong with Oregonian Epics?"

The ebook company says it is released on the 18th and it is the 18h here and it ISN'T RELEASED YET D:

This is why I have long since decided that geoblocking is stupid.
