Clockwork he/him Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 So, I was told to put the new epic profile and a scene in the Epics of Oregon thread, but when I look for feedback, do I look there, or here?
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted January 18, 2016 Author Posted January 18, 2016 So, I was told to put the new epic profile and a scene in the Epics of Oregon thread, but when I look for feedback, do I look there, or here? Here.
Edgedancer he/him Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Can someone write me a short summary of what's going on in Dalles or Portland? I'd like to follow those threads, but I don't really have time to read through all the pages... Just some key characters and most important events so far would be enough For Portland we have three main factions. The Empire of Light: Major members: Lightwards (the green) a necromancer that wants to rule everyting yada yada, would tecnically be the leader of the army but is respected by almost no one. Has raised an army of dinosaurs. Funtimes: matter manipulator and teleporter, has a group of vanillas semi-hostage (aka she thinks they are friends or boyfriend in one case). Likfted a museum of the ground and filled it with jungle. Nighthound/Lucentia, I group them together because they are siblings and pretty uch stick through this together. Their reason for sticking with the faction is a mix of "hey might at least stick with the faction that has dinosaurs" and that a faction with a more respectable leader would give Lucentia less to complain about (tecnically I'm not even kidding. ). There's a group of female Epics dragged around by Nighthound, most of them not willingly. Then we have a husband/wife couple of Epic scientists, some Epics more or less loyal to Lightwards, including a self proclaimed magician, his assistant, a retroloc and his totally-not-girlfriend. Thoughttown. Lead by Altermind, an illusionist that wants to create an utopia for smart people. His leutnant is an Epic called Flashpoint and their strongest asset is probably Voidgaze. Appart from those they have a couple of lower rank Epics that I won't list here. These two factions are currently in an alliance to bring down the third faction the Dominion. Lead by Corpsemaker, best described as an Epic crime boss with invulnerability a killing stare and power negation. Henchmen would include a trifecta composed of teleporter with resurection Timeport, Electro, an electricity Epic and Quota sotther/rioter. Furthermore a propability manipulator called Murphy, Streetwise best suited for information gathering and Toymaker who can turn toys into actual weapons, troops ect. That should be enough to follow the current events, even if it doesn't give all the details. The Dalles will follow later.
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted January 18, 2016 Author Posted January 18, 2016 And Murphy is basically Alcatraz.
Edgedancer he/him Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 So, I was told to put the new epic profile and a scene in the Epics of Oregon thread, but when I look for feedback, do I look there, or here? So about that new weakness. Weakness: Extreme storms/disasters cause it so his powers don’t work, but Chasms and Enhancements continue. (Example of Extreme Disaster: 7.5 Earthquake, Lvl5 Hurricane, LvlF4 Tornado, etc.) that's pretty ridiculously hard to trigger (I'm also not all that down with the enhancements continuing). Can someone write me a short summary of what's going on in Dalles or Portland? I'd like to follow those threads, but I don't really have time to read through all the pages... Just some key characters and most important events so far would be enough For the Dalles we have the actual city guard lead by Commanda Vondra, the friendly dictator and Arsenal the Epic fascist that's gaining more and more control. There's a couple of Epics in a city guard and now a couple of newcomers maybe joining as well. The ones I'll mention here are Deathwish that's essentially the equivalent of a rabbit and leacherous dog and Reader, a mind reader that checks new Epics on wheter or not they are a danger together with Autumn Glass. The other factions are an army lead by an Epic that turned himself and his victims/army into a panda and attacked the town. They were fought off and are currently regrouping. Then there's an Epic crime gang lead by Quicksilver that currently has a pretty big shoot out with the city guard, while some of the new Epics are getting interviewed. Again, not much details but should be enough to get you up to speed.

Edgedancer he/him Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Thank you! Ah, the cute kitty makes it all worth it. I think I have a more detailed step by step summary for the Dalles lying around somewhere, if you're interested. I might need a while to dig it out though.
Citadel16 he/him Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Warriormark, thanks for already making one of those segments for Ragnarock but in it you kind of ignored both the mind control, which is probably the vaguest point there, and water attraction. well, that's because I'm not entirely sure I should have that. I mean, he might be OP because of the mind control. One look into Nighthounds eyes and Nighthound tries to kill Lucentia. the water attraction is a big reason he calls himself Ragnarok. in the norse legend, Ragnarok ends with the world covered in water. am I missing any questions?
RippleGylf she/her Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 (edited) So, I've been trying to iron out an idea for a new epic. I don't know where I would put her, and I'm not sure if I'm ready to roleplay until I have her powers figure out. I won't post a full profile yet. Basically, she can cause objects to sink through other objects. During contact, these objects act as if there is no normal force (if you happen to be familiar with somewhat basic physics). This does not work on currently living things, and affected objects cannot go through currently living things. (I may revise this to just include humans, as the main reason for this limitation is because I don't know what it would feel like and it's just simpler if we don't think about that.) Tentatively named Abnormal. Edited January 18, 2016 by RippleGylf

Tentatively named Abnormal. thanks to my recent Physics class, I actually understand this. (I think) this could be an effective power, removing normal force. (if I understand this correctly, which I might not) this should remove acceleration inhibitors, allowing it to reach terminal velocity (max speed of a falling object) at point blank range to the ground, causing an effect like a meteorite. Basically, she can cause objects to sink through other objects. this wouldn't work really, unless she makes the objects intangible. in my opinion it would be easier to do the effect above. as I have said before, I might not understand this half as much as I think I do.
CarolaDavar she/her Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Can I make a character here? Or do I put it on the Epics of Oregon?
Citadel16 he/him Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 (edited) from what I understand, put it in the epics of oregon post, then we discuss it here. Edited January 19, 2016 by warriormark16
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted January 19, 2016 Author Posted January 19, 2016 Can I make a character here? Or do I put it on the Epics of Oregon? First off, welcome! Second, if you've already started your character post in Epics of Oregon, that's fine; if not, post what you have here and let others comment, then post the final version in Epics of Oregon.
Blackhoof Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 well, that's because I'm not entirely sure I should have that. I mean, he might be OP because of the mind control. One look into Nighthounds eyes and Nighthound tries to kill Lucentia. the water attraction is a big reason he calls himself Ragnarok. in the norse legend, Ragnarok ends with the world covered in water. am I missing any questions? Yeah, I would suggest removing or vastly weakening the mind control. Brandon Sanderson has confirmed that mind control in this setting (in almost all cases) is more subtle manipulation and thought-implanting than full-on control. For instance, giving a guard the idea that he wants a sandwich, causing him to wander away from his post. And even then, Epics are, as a rule, resistant to it to a degree. So either dump the mind control, or weaken it a heap, and remember that Epics will feel the effects much less potently. I think Edge was more asking about what water attraction means. Does all water in, say, 30 feet slowly gravitate towards him? 100 feet? 100 miles? Does it quickly gravitate towards him? Will it float into the air and form a bubble around him, or just stay on the ground? Can he control it? Could he drown himself in it by accident? Does it work when he is sleeping? Does the water in people drift towards him as well? water attraction is just an incredibly vague power- which isn't bad, as long as the vagueness is clarified and quantified. We need to iron out exactly what powers and capabilities each Epic has so that we do not get into difficulties or disputes within the game (well minimize them, at least).
Citadel16 he/him Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Well, really thats all there is to it. he uses his powers, the more power he uses the more he attracts, he leaves the area(or stays, it doesnt really matter) and over a period of time, small amounts of water flow to that area. until its thoroughly covered
Voidus Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 thanks to my recent Physics class, I actually understand this. (I think) this could be an effective power, removing normal force. Removal of the normal force would remove air resistance so it wouldn't have a terminal velocity but it wouldn't instantly accelerate it. If there's no normal force then that's functionally identical to being intangible, I actually quite like it as an explanation of the intangibility, though it would make for some weird interactions.
CarolaDavar she/her Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Lead Jewel can turn metals into jewels and vice versa(though only small bits) and can also blend in with the shadows. She has a habit of keeping jewels with her, rounded like bullets and is always with her trusty pistol. (she is a former theif, so she easily gets jewels)
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted January 19, 2016 Author Posted January 19, 2016 Got you covered. If that happens again, there's a little button in the bottom right-hand corner of your posts that says "Hide." It'll let you hide double posts. Lead Jewelcan turn metals into jewels and vice versa(though only small bits) and can also blend in with the shadows. She has a habit of keeping jewels with her, rounded like bullets and is always with her trusty pistol. (she is a former theif, so she easily gets jewels) How does she fire the jewels? Do her powers allow her to add ballistics material like gunpowder, or something akin to it, or does she add the gunpowder herself?
CarolaDavar she/her Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 She has to add the gunpowder herself. Oh, and occasionally, if she times it right, she can turn the bullets back into jewels so they shatter inside of a person
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted January 19, 2016 Author Posted January 19, 2016 She has to add the gunpowder herself. Oh, and occasionally, if she times it right, she can turn the bullets back into jewels so they shatter inside of a person How does that work?
CarolaDavar she/her Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 So, she turns metal into jewels and jewels into metal, right? Well, she turns her jewels into metal, shoots it, and, as the bullets hit, she turns them into jewels, and they shatter from force

I'm not sure that would work, but I'm not a physics expert by any stretch, so if I have this wrong in my head please correct me.

Depends on the jewel and whether or not she can control things like where fractures and cleavage planes are.
