Atium Crystal Regrowth

Hi all. Not sure if this has been brought up before, but I'm re-reading The Final Empire and came across this quote from Kelsier after his visit to the Pits.

 

" 'And so you...' Vin trailed off.

'I pretty much ended atium production in the Final Empire for the next three hundred years or so.' "

 

At which point the crystals have grown back enough to produce atium. Alloy of Law takes place about 300 years after Hero of Ages. And isn't the Elendel Basin pretty close to where the Pits of Hathsin used to be? I remember something from a broadsheet about mysterious metals and the Pits of Eltania. Could be a resurgence of Atium. Or since there is no Ruin, it could be the source of this mysterious new metal from Shadows of Self.

 

Anyway, just thought I'd put that tidbit out there.

After the events of the Hero of Ages both the Well of Ascension and the pits were no more, Harmony could make more Atium if he wanted to though and he does need to offset the extra Investiture of Ruin to remain balanced though so he might have an equivalent somewhere.

I have still to read Shadows of Self, but are you sure that the Shardpools are gone ?

Does the Well of Ascension still exist in the new world? Or is it no longer necessary? I assumed that Preservation collected there like Ruin collects in the Pits of Hathsin, so if Atium keeps forming then the well should keep filling...

The Well (and the small wells in the Pits) is no more. For now at least.

The only thing that came to my mind, is that The Well&Pit weren't "standard Shardpool" (If we may use the word "standard" for something so unknow).

 

EDIT: Unless there is need of more time to the newformed Harmony to "spawn" a Shardpool.

I imagine Harmony has his own pool.

Indeed there's a section from the Broadsheets in SoS that there is another Shardpool somewhere on Scadrial, likely Harmony's.

If pre-Harmony rules still apply, the Well of Ascenscion probably won't 'exist' for another 700 years (give or take) because it needs to recharge/refill (at the time of W&W we're 300+ years into a 1024 year cycle).

Unless Brandon was deliberately misinterpreting the question then he meant that the Well itself is gone, not just the power of the Well.

But at the "Black Lake" near the Pit your interpretation doesn't apply.

 

It's possible that when A shardholder dies or change. With all the Shard's investiture also the Shardpool will be drain. To reform in century through leaking from the new Shard.

If I were Harmony, I'd just move both of the Sharpools deep underground or to the seabottom somewhere far away from the coast. Maybe both.

Unless I'm mistaken...the tentative title of the last book for alloy of law era scadrial is going to be "the lost metal."  It's also something briefly mentioned in story.  I've always assumed that this was foreshadowing the return of atium...but who knows...could be something completely different.
