Kelsier and hoid

i've seen a quote from brandon that kelsier doesn't like or maybe hates hoid but never anything about why. the only reason i could think of is that kelsier believes that hoid should have taken care of the lord ruler instead of just poking around for info and new powers. if there was any other info or if you can think of a different reason please share

I think this is the WoB that @taveren is referring too, if anyone is interested.

Dear Brandon, If you could have a dinner party with six of the characters that you have written about, which six would you choose and why? Would your answer change if the party was in someone else's house?

Well, it would be tough—I'd have to decide if I wanted the party to be crazy, interesting, or low risk.

For example, inviting Hoid and Kelsier to the same party could result in murdering. Having Sazed around with someone like Jasnah would lead to some great discussions of philosophy.

In the end, I'd probably pick the core WoT cast, just because they've been my friends for so long. Longer than anyone other than Wit and Dalinar, actually. So Perrin, Rand, Mat, Egwene, Nynaeve, and Thom. Fourth book era.

Wait—are you implying Hoid and Kelsier would want to murder each other, or that they would team up to murder other people?

BRANDON SANDERSON
Hoid and Kelsier do not get along. At all.

The only time that they met when Kelsier was alive, that we know of, was when Hoid was pretending to be a beggar informant to give Kelsier information. I don't remember any animosity at all in that scene, so I think this might have something to do with an interaction, either direct or indirect, that Hoid has had with Kelsier's cognitive shadow (aka Rust :P ).

Edit: added full context

I agree with Taveren, I can pretty easily imagine Kelsier getting angry and violent at the idea that someone like Wit had both the knowledge of the Lord Ruler's atrocities, as well as the powers to oppose if not single handedly defeat him, and still just sit around and observe for 1,000 years. I know Wit has his reasons, but it's also hard not to see Kelsier's side coming from his POV.

Arguably, Hoid didn't have powers that would have helped against the Final Empire.  He didn't get access to the Metallic Arts until the end of WoA, for instance (assuming that he didn't have feruchemy before then), he didn't get access to the Dor until he stole the Moon Scepter from Shai at the beginning of tES, there's nothing about any conspicuous color auras that would speak to the 200-599ish Breaths he's got in WoR.  That leaves his lightweaving (which he's had from the beginning, as part of mundane disguises going all the way back to Elantris), which is not terribly helpful for actually striking a blow against the Final Empire like Kelsier would have wanted him to.  Also, 200 Breaths is not a lot to Awaken things with, so unless Hoid had a bunch of voodoo dolls on him, he couldn't have helped even if he did have the stockpile in the first place.

we don't know for sure how powerful he is at any point but i suspect he could have done a lot against the lord ruler with just his lightweaveing since he has knowledge on his side. no one else really knew what was going on with the lord ruler and his powers

I always thought that Hoid doesn't really fight or kill and Kelsier indiscriminately kills frequently is the reason they don't get along.

I don't think Hoid would confide in him that he is in fact the most powerful non-Shard character in the Cosmere.

I think it was just their individual mentality which would make them clash.

First time poster, long time lurker! Here we go....what if kelsier started the 17th shard?!!!

Sorry to burst your bubble, but Kelsier was probably pretty busy trying to topple the Final Empire to start an organization spanning the Cosmere. Besides, it has been alluded to that the leader of the 17th Shard is a dragon named Frost.

Also, I don't know if you know, but the Dark Alley specializes in Hemalurgic baked goods, usually cookies.

Hope you post more!
