I doubt that Shallan and Jasnah would be able to tell that Kaladin is a Surgebinder on sight, even if they can see Syl. They might just assume he's being pestered by a windspren.

Not if she's around consistently. It's stated that Windspren do pester people from time to time, but they quickly lose interest and float away.

Something else to consider: In several weeks of bodyguard duty, neither Kaladin nor Syl seem to have picked up on the fact that "Renarin seesa spren nobody else does." (per WoB)  This despite the fact that in WoK Renarin is frequently observed to be "preoccupied," with "staring at nothing." I'm guessing that his spren is around a bunch, but neither a watchful surgebinder nor that surgebinder's spren has noticed. Presumably Rock hasn't been around the Kholins at all to see things.

I take this to mean that there's something else going on with visibility than just Nahel bonding.

As an aside--I seriously doubt it will happen this way, but I have a scene in mind where Jasnah is introducing Shallan to the family, and S notices R's spren. She says "Oh, you have one too?" This leads to explanations Kaladin only gets to hear afterward from the bridgecrew who were on bodyguard detail at the time.

We do not currently know that it is a Nahel Spren Renarin sees. But anyway, I think it is pretty certain that my original hypothesis was wrong. Considering Wyndle's quote, and the fact that Pattern is so... visible... it seems that there are inherent differences between the Nahel Spren.

i guess in the next Kaladin or Dalinar chapter, Kaladin will tell Dalinar about his ablities, if the chapter allows it.

im relativly sure Kaladin will tell them before Shallan and Jasnah will arive at the Shattered Plaines.

Unless Amaram shows up and he and Dalinar are being buddy buddy. Besides, Kaladin only promised Syl to try to become a Radiant. He never promised to tell Dalinar. Kaladin is afraid of telling Dalinar. Maybe he should grow in his abilities, and gain confidence that he won't lose Syl before telling Dalinar.

Now another tangent. I've been assuming that Shallan would discover Syl by drawing a picture of Kaladin. However, I realized Shallan drew several pictures of Jasnah, at least two of her soulcasting, and she never drew Ivory. Maybe my assumption was wrong. Maybe Shallan wouldn't accidentally draw Syl. Maybe she drew the symbol heads because one of them was to be her spren.

Did she ever draw Jasnah while distracted?

Jasnah Distracted? Yes. Shallah Distracted? Yes. When she drew the men Jasnah killed. She drew a lot of those pictures without thinking. A lot of her symbol head drawing were done when Shallan wasn't distracted. The night she first soulcast and her drawings at the hospital of the symbol heads were all done with a focus mind.

Maybe Ivory was somewhere else the two times she drew Jasnah, but we have no proof of her drawing hidden Nahel Spren except her own.

Shallan can draw the Cryptics because she has a "special connection" to them.  I take this to mean she cannot usually draw invisible/hidden spren.  Also keep in mind that those Cryptics probably weren't actually manifesting in the Physical Realm at that point.

Q: Why can Shallan draw the Cryptics without seeing them, and can she do the same for other invisible (to her?) spren?

A: Shallan and the Cryptics have a "special connection" that allows her to draw them.

Well there you are. My dream scene of Shallan drawing Syl blown out of the water. Oh well. I was hoping to read an argument between Syl and Pattern, but I guess that will only be possible from Kaladin's POV, assuming Pattern remains visible to everyone of course.
