Kairos Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 Has anyone considered that the spike they tried to give Wax could be the unknown metal? If Harmony's hands are corrupted, why not use them to corrupt his sword?
DreamEternal Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 Has anyone considered that the spike they tried to give Wax could be the unknown metal?Unlikely. That seemed to still be Vin's earring.
Dahak he/him Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 Unlikely. That seemed to still be Vin's earring. I thought it was a bit of an Inquisitor spike. Vin's earring would grant Allomantic Bronze and if anything Wax seems to be getting Allomantic Pewter from his. Of course I'm now wondering about Pa'alm's original Blessing and why the RPG seems to disagree with the Copper Mind about which two types TenSoon had.
Moogle Posted January 16, 2016 Author Posted January 16, 2016 I thought it was a bit of an Inquisitor spike. Vin's earring would grant Allomantic Bronze and if anything Wax seems to be getting Allomantic Pewter from his. Note that it is a new earring, not his old one. There's no reason to expect him to keep getting Allomantic pewter, if indeed he was.
Stormgate he/him Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 Remember, these spikes were basically sitting in a pile, discharging the whole time. They probably were only just powerful enough to allow Shardic communication.
Moogle Posted January 16, 2016 Author Posted January 16, 2016 Remember, these spikes were basically sitting in a pile, discharging the whole time. They probably were only just powerful enough to allow Shardic communication. I find this doubtful. A spike's charge can be preserved by keeping it in blood, or so is theorized in SoS. I see no reason why Harmony would have not have employed this method for a valuable (albeit distasteful) resource. Worst case, you just stick it in a kandra until its needed. Even if he didn't, the charge should leak power exponentially, meaning it never goes down to 0 and can always provide some benefit. Say, a small boost of Allomantic pewter powerful enough to soothe Wax's pain while being powered by the mist? His wounds suddenly seemed to crash down upon him. He didn’t know if it was the mists, some action of Harmony, or simple adrenaline that had helped him ignore them for a time. But he hadn’t been healed. His side screamed from where he’d been shot, and his leg and arm had been burned and scraped raw by the explosion. He’d been clipped by bullets in the thigh and the arm. And now, Miles’s beating.
yurisses Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 Has anyone considered that the spike they tried to give Wax could be the unknown metal? If Harmony's hands are corrupted, why not use them to corrupt his sword? Yes I theorised that and I think it is true. It's heavily implied the kandra are trell-spiked and that Wax is suspecting it so it looks to me like narratively Wax dodged a bullet here by refusing the earring. It could be plated with a different metal, just like Vin's earring in trilogy 1 was.
DreamEternal Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 It's heavily implied the kandra are trell-spiked Explain yourself, I saw no such a thing.
The Shadow he/him Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 6. ReLuur claims to have seen the Bands, but didn't take a picture of them? This is ridiculous. We know he has a camera capable of taking pictures of moving people via 11., so with that fast of an exposure there is no reason for him not to have taken a picture of the Bands unless he was immediately attacked. I suspect it's because he didn't feel he had too. He took the Bands with them.
yurisses Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 (edited) Explain yourself, I saw no such a thing. It's a Wayne PoV and Wax (incorrectly) calls VenDell a "metalborn" to which the latter reacts strongly. Wax then says VenDell would be useful since he is practically unkillable and can shapeshift, leaving VenDell and the reader to assume Wax uses metalborn incorrectly... or that he tested a theory by casually calling VenDell a metalborn and VenDell's reaction confirmed it. To me this does not heavilly imply all the kandra are Trell-spiked, I don't think we have an official definition of metalborn that makes it unreasonable to call hemalurgic constructs that way, and VenDell may have reacted to the accusation of being Trell-spiked not because it was true, but because of how grave it is.
