My point was more along the lines of their ascension to Herald status (and being granted their non-Honorblade powers) possibly hapenning prior to the Oathpact, and potentially happening independant of Honor. I wasn't sure if it was definitively known that Honor specifically picked the ten of them and made them Heralds or not. I am in complete agreement that the Honorblades were granted to them by Honor.

Ah okay I think I understand you now, but I don't think there is anything to indicate that there status as Heralds is unconnected to the Oathpact?

Right. It was just an observation on my part. Everything looks good then.

Very nice work Weiry, it looks very good, just needs those two citations.

Posted

Okay those two citations are added, as well as a {{cite}} note for the thing from the Chicago signing.

Posted

Yeah if you can find those then you can just update the Shalash page.

I agree, it can be made the actual article now. Thanks so much for doing that Weiry :D

Oh they are both things that I know exactly where they are, they just are not in an easily citable form (i.e. they are transcriptions in the process of being finalized).  The cite notes are just there so I can remember where they are supposed to go.

Edit: And the format is good enough to update the rest of the Heralds, right?

Just cite the 17S post temporarily.

And yeah, love the format.

they aren't in 17s posts yet, just google docs.

Oh, gotcha. So in the "very unfinished" citations, I see :P

maybe also add {{ref/transcribe}} or something close by *shrugs*

Eh I'd rather just wait to cite it until after it's inputted to the database, it's easier that way.

I could use comments on my revision of the Cosmere article: http://coppermind.net/wiki/User:Chaos2651/Cosmere

The main addition, other than general revisions, is a history section. As you could go literally insane if you went too detailed, so I stuck to main history of the Shard. When more extensive history for Roshar and that conflict is revealed, that will get the Mistborn treatment here. When we get Nightblood, I'll probably put the Vasher stuff in there.

Posted

My biggest complaint is the word repetition. Example: "Shards settled specific worlds, but could have gone to other worlds before residing upon the worlds they now stay." Obviously it is not a factual issue, but it bugged my brain as I was reading.

I'm not sure how you were wanting to organize the History section, but I think it could use some paragraph shifting. If you shift the initial Roshar paragraph (right before the Odium's Quest subsection) to before the Ruin and Preservation stuff, you can make a Ruin and Preservation subsection (it felt thrown in, and needs a subsection). Do the same for the short paragraph about the Survival Shard that is currently at the end of Odium's Quest.

My other main question is why we're including summaries of the stories here? You essentially sum the entire Era 1 Mistborn in the Harmony section. That trend will mean every major Cosmere story dealing with Shards will wind up on this page, making the individual pages redundant (or rather this section becomes redundant). Instead, you could say something along the lines of "for more detail, go here". Or provide much shorter summaries?

I just editted the page with some grammatical fixes, but left the above notes untouched.

I'm with Blaze. Era 1 Mistborn is very important, but I don't think you need to go into as much detail as you did in Harmony's Ascencsion.

I'll work on the word repetition, and I will add some more sections.

I think I will disagree with you; I generally like the level of detail. It looks out of place because we have little information on the others, but when we do, I'd like that level of detail on all of them. I suspect the relationships of Honor, Cultivation, and Odium will be far more extensive than this.

I will try and cut any nonessential things, but I do feel that generally this is the right detail level. I can tighten up the prose. But there are lots of things Shards can do, and I think this is right to be detailed rather than less detailed. Sure, it could be much shorter, but there's a lot of nuance that I think could be quite important to the overall scheme of things.

So I was hoping that someone could look at my page on Bonds and see if there is anything that can be added or changed and consider it to be moved to the main wiki?

I was looking the other day for the information and noticed we did not have a page talking about it in the magic systems category. I felt we should have one on account of the overlap of magic systems in the Cosmere. Please let me know what you think.

Question about Dalinar's article, why is the entire thing written in present tense? Even his back story? A lot of "is born" instead of "was born" "Does decide" instead of "Did decide".

I've never seen wiki articles written like that. Not in Wookieepedia, or the ASOFiA wiki, not in the Wheel of Time wiki.

Is it exemplary more because it's basically the only major article that's up to date with everything from WoR, when Jasnah's, over a year later, doesn't even mention the boat attack?

Also yeah, Adolin, Kaladin, basically everyone important is still stuck in the pre release chapters of WoR at best over a year later. What's gonna happen when the third book swamps over everything? I imagine a lot of stuff is going to be left in the dust forever.

And that's another more broad thing, a lot of character articles are grossly outdated or underdone. How can Dilaf's, the first major antagonist in the Cosmere, not even reach the climax of Elantris where he is at his most important? How can Elend's entire history be summed up in ten two or three sentence paragraphs?

Sorry, I don't mean to be harsh, but as a wiki the Coppermind frustrating in just how little there is on stuff that by logic should have been filled out a long time ago.

A Cosmere encyclopedia would help immensely even if all anyone did was copy paste it into the Coppermind.

Um, I understand your frustration. You can contribute to it! There is literally so much to do; if it is not there and you want it to be, you can add it! I would agree many character articles need expansion. We have a very small set of regular editors...

So I would encourage you to contribute and try not to get too frustrated in general. There are over two thousand articles. Stuff needs to be added. It will always be a work in progress, and we'd love any help you can give.

Regarding tense, FeatherWriter persuaded us that encyclopedic standard is to use, I think she called it "universal present". But history should be in past tense.

Right but that is the whole point there are only so many people that want to edit anything that is in as much flux like the Cosmere is hard to pin down everything. I have just started helping and what i would say is if you find that the information you wanted is not available well do the research and then add it to the wiki for others.

Also isnt a Cosmere encyclopedia exactly what the coppermind is?

I would also note that doing big character articles is extremely, extremely time consuming, and is a major project for just one of them.

Sebarial took me a day and a half to make sure I didn't miss anything. I then reviewed it a month later for another half day to make sure it all made sense and everything was included. I can only imagine how much work a far more prominent character would be, particularly a PoV one.
