iBambam Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 I'm re-reading the first mistborn trilogy and I just have a random question/thought I'd like to get some opinions on. In the first or second chapter of WoA Vin specifically says that Kelsier was the most powerful allomancer she's ever met. However, we know the Lord Ruler was way more powerful than Vin or Kelsier (at this point in the story). So my question is; is this Vin starting to buy into the religion that Kelsier set up for the skaa, is she starting to believe, subconsciously, the legend about him even though she knew him? Did Sanderson do this on purpose? Or am I just reading way too much into this? Haha 1
DreamEternal Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 (edited) I think she doens't consider TLR as an allomance because her subcouncious mind still sees him as something above mortals. Also, in terms of raw power Vin is surely above Kelsier, so it is more likely a matter of skill, which Rashek either lacked or didn't bother using. Edited December 4, 2015 by CognitivePulsePattern
Stormgate he/him Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 I would wager to guess, though, that after the events in TFE, Vin is the most powerful Mistborn in the world. Not the most powerful Allomancer, necessarily, since Breeze and his Soother mind tricks put him, on one level, equal to Jedi. Vin is not as good a Soother as he his, though she does use duralumin to cheat. Even without it, though, she is very powerful, as she was making use of tiny amounts of metal effectively enough to keep a young, weak girl safe in a group of less than noble men ( yes I know they were skaa. Sometimes I accidentally make puns.) 1
iBambam Posted December 5, 2015 Author Posted December 5, 2015 But in that same instance, referring to Breeze's soothing, I guess Kelsier could be the most powerful to her because of his mastery of steel and iron. I just thought it was an odd statement for Sanderson to make, when in terms of raw power, Kelsier was far from the strongest.
Charononus Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 What does powerful mean? Is the muscle laden body builder more powerful than the tiny martial artist? TLR had immense power, Kelsier had skill. Allomantically Kelsier wins. TLR only wins in the story because he's a feruchemist. Give Kelsier the powers of a full born and I think TLR would have died.
natc Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Depends on why TLR's allomancy is also absurdly strong. Those in-body steelpushes are dangerous, though being able to match TLR in speed will help.
