Edgedancer he/him Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 I'm thinking of using Mugshot, Neutrality, and maybe Stormgate. Do I have to have a weakness for Mugshot, though? The guy's one power is to shoot mugs. Not exactly something that you really care to neutralize. Edit: I'm currently thinking Astoria. As for the weakness. I'm gonna chime in with the others and say yes. As for Neutrality, do me the favour and write up a new profile that exctually entails what he's not affected by. As for Astoria, the local GM would be me. Any idea how you want to bring them into the city?
Stormgate he/him Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 I'm still going through the 7 pages of backstory, but I'm thinking Neutrality comes in from Salem (Or wherever the Arena is)
Voidus Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Well you remembered Brandon, so there's that. Maybe it's just everyone else that is crazy and the Pmada doesn't actually have powers. Everyone just imagined them. I can take at least some for the Reaper Man if that would lessen your load. Well once Calamity is out I might be able to do something but for now I think he'll have to stay as an Epic.
Citadel16 he/him Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 (edited) A couple of potential issues. Vastly enhanced intelligence like that is kind of hard to deploy for similar reasons to precognition beyond just a danger sense is. We don't really know what's going to happen most of the time but a hyper-intelligent character probably should. I'd probably suggest a more limited but potentially powerful version of it, perfect recall, intuitive understanding or something like that. Antimatter is another problem, antimatter doesn't really explode as such it would just annihilate and release gamma radiation bursts. It'd pretty much kill everyone in the city with even a small explosion. dont argue physics. its an epic for crying out loud his enhanced intelligence acts sort of like a HUD connected to a super computer... and his brain. trust me. it works. ive tried it. think Atium burning but not at all the same Warriormark do you simply want fancy looking explosions? Because you don't need antimatter for that. yes you do. and dont argue with me because i'm right. *flies off on a unicorn-dragon-thing* Which I guess further raises the question of how well he can channel the energy of and with how much finess. 100% no excess radiation, no loss of energy in a direction that isn't the intended direction. did I miss any questions? also, is anyone opposed to a first person character? TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted December 30, 2015 Author Posted December 30, 2015 dont argue physics. its an epic for crying out loud also, is anyone opposed to a first person character? True, but their powers still interact with physics to some degree. Keep it third-person limited. We've had a handful of first-person scenes, but they were kind of jarring to read. Keeping the RP limited to one viewpoint type makes it easier to keep track of everything.
Voidus Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 dont argue physics. its an epic for crying out loud his enhanced intelligence acts sort of like a HUD connected to a super computer... and his brain. trust me. it works. ive tried it. think Atium burning but not at all the same Well yeah but they still reside in our universe, you can't say that for instance your Epic can control water and then say that as part of that he can turn it into the sun, that's a separate power that just doesn't make sense. If you don't want it to do the things that antimatter does then just don't call it antimatter, there's a few Epics who can create what can only be described as exotic matter with weird properties. Which brings me to the second point again, someone with enhanced intelligence would absolutely know that that's not antimatter, I may be smart but I'm not Einstein and if I can figure it out someone leagues beyond even that has no excuse really. I'm happy to trust that you'll make it work, just giving you a heads up that it's going to be incredibly difficult to make it a realistic character and it's going to need an awful lot of time and research.

(though it doesn't sound nearly as cool) but that invalidates the name... okay! what do you guys think would be a good name for a grumpy butt sarcastic, know it all, revenge driven maniac who controls the power of exotic-fusion-ish-type-explosive force Edited December 30, 2015 by warriormark16
Voidus Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 okay, thank you fine. exotic-fusion-ish-type-explosive force redirection will work just fine. (though it doesn't sound nearly as cool) but i'm keeping the name Antimatter I have an Epic profile with someone whose power is temperature manipulation and their name is Squeak so I'm fine with somewhat misleading names Fusion works much better for what you've described too in that it's more like an explosion than Antimatter is.
Edgedancer he/him Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 his enhanced intelligence acts sort of like a HUD connected to a super computer... and his brain. trust me. it works. ive tried it. think Atium burning but not at all the same 100% no excess radiation, no loss of energy in a direction that isn't the intended direction. did I miss any questions? So he's permanently on autopilot? Excess from the explosion or do you mean that he creates radiation and channels that as well? Like what are the properties of this pseudo matter? Can he only chanell the energy in one direction or could he split it up? Yup: This may seem like a weird question but why does he get more powerful? I mean we have a reason with Megan, namely that ripping a hole between dimensions that lets another version of her show up makes things wonky enough for her powers to have more influence on things but no one acts like it's normal for powers to increase that much (or at all) after a resurrection. So why does he get stronger? I'm still going through the 7 pages of backstory, but I'm thinking Neutrality comes in from Salem (Or wherever the Arena is) Well, the arena is generated by Epic powers, so having him participate there might be impossible.
Blaze1616 he/him Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 his enhanced intelligence acts sort of like a HUD connected to a super computer... and his brain. trust me. it works. ive tried it. think Atium burning but not at all the same Then please explain it. In detail. If you have to write an example scene, that's fine. I don't mean to be rude, but you've sort of dismissed all of our questions as though you want the loopholes to take advantage of during the story. Essentially it feels like you're creating powers for a character, and not a character with powers. The difference is that the first one has very little character development or character driven plots and instead focuses on power development, while the second one is the opposite. Character is infinitely more important than power-set. That doesn't mean you can't intermingle them - like my planned character for the Australia setting that had ice based powers, making him pretty much useless, which was to be a defining character trait - but it does mean that there's at least a 50/50 balance. Neglecting the character side of the equation, and focusing entirely on powers, tends to make the character really fun for you to write, but rather boring or a pain to read or role play with. Again, I don't mean any offense in this. We've all gone through what you're going through with our characters when we created them. This process really does help the RP though. 2
Kobold King he/him Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Is anyone going to post in Portland, anytime soon? I'm really far behind, but here's a Sam post for all of you. I was trying to get the Backtrack post finished and posted too, but it's time to fry lunch now. Should be coming soon!
Stormgate he/him Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Well, the arena is generated by Epic powers, so having him participate there might be impossible. That's kinda the point. He can't go into the Arena, and so he's just stuck as a deputy officer, until he hears about Astoria.

Kobold King he/him Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 I thought this would be more appreciated on this thread than Random Stuff. How about you create the Nighthound and the Funtimes empire respectively? After that I'm pretty sure you have a carte blanche for just about everything. Oregon Characters as Alien Races: Funtimesians: Odd beings known for their phenomenal transmutation technology and love of whimsy. Their starships tend to be pink and sparkly. Funtimesians have been known to abduct members of other species as "friends," carting them away on board their glittery space vessels to see the stars. Nathanians: Timid, ginger-haired beings known as the Funtimesians abductees of choice. Lightwardsians: An irritable, murderous empire with medical nanobots said to be capable of reversing death. The Lightwardsians head an army made up of dinosaurs on board spaceships, which even the empire's enemies have to admit is pretty darn cool. Lucentians: Pompous, crystalline beings which spend most of their time contacting lowly lifeforms, enslaving them, and complaining to them about what a hostile universe it is. Altermindians: Holographic artificial intelligences known for only allowing those of high intellects to visit their planets. Also known for shunning pants and other humanoid forms of clothing. CorpseMakerites: An invincible interstellar armada chiefly notable for occupying human planets where coffee is grown. Potentially caffeine-based life forms. Voidgazeians: Gentle beings only recently discovered, the Voidgazeans make contact out of pure white spaceships and bear a fascination with the baked goods of other races. Backtrackians: A race of weak historians which evacuated the galaxy en masse upon their discovery of the Nighthoundian race. Current whereabouts are unknown, but they are believed to have stricken an unlikely alliance with the MV Empire, which maintains a policy of "We'll exterminate them later. It's not like we like them or anything!" Nighthoundians (extinct): After first contact revealed Nighthoundian mating habits, an extermination fleet was immediately send to their homeworld to blast the surface with mass driver projectiles, cobalt-salted nuclear arms, and delta waves. And then the Nighthoundians died. 8

When two gods battle over who is the most shiny, we lowly mortals can only keep our heads down and hope we wouldn't look good in a glittery tutu. Do Arsenal! The oldest species in The Dalles Galaxy, the Arsenalites are capable of devising nearly any form of technology ever invented. Despite this, they largely confine themselves to transmitter dishes they use to broadcast proper galactic protocol over the surrounding star systems, drowning out television broadcasts with images of an ancient alien's furious face shouting about proper space station zoning regulations. 5

If he sees an Epic mistreating anybody, either Epic or vanilla, he goes after the Epic. He leads a very lonely lifestyle, vanillas are afraid of him because Epics go after his loved ones instead of him, and Epics are afraid of him because they can't affect him. He's serving as a marshal of sorts in Salem, and hears Mugshot talking about Astoria. Kobold King he/him Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 What about the Koscheians? Or the Metronomians? The Koscheians were a race of self-replicating healing robots which briefly became corrupted and took over The Dalles Galaxy. Notable for their sinister practices and the unnecessary layers of capes and circlets in their battle armor, they were eventually overthrown and exterminated by the Remingtonites, which then left the galaxy to parts unknown, leaving only a legend in their wake. The Emmarunians currently revere the Remingtonites as deities and build entire cities around surviving relics of theirs, such as loose hairs and toothbrushes. The Metronomians are invariably listed as the most fearsome and nightmarish species in all the universe, feared by even the mightiest empires and alliances. They began as the universe's most efficient clock makers, the inventors of timepieces that stayed accurate in any star system or at any near light-speed velocity. They still are the universe's most efficient clock makers, but are also listed as the most fearsome and nightmarish species in all the universe because they demand it and no one wants to hurt their feelings. 7

Being immune to Epic powers also dosen't explain why they wouldn't just plain shoot him if he's a goody two shoes. You also didn't answer the question of where the first post would pick up. For the Salem stuff by the way you should run it Voidus and probably Mckeedee as well first. Does he skin them every time they do buisness on his carpet? (Alright so I may be mostly joking with this point.)
